this legit made me cry. I was in a coed high school soccer team and hearing the things people like PJW would say really hurt and caused me to go home crying after practices and debate quitting the team. However at the end of the season, my coach gave me the most improved award, but he said was also the subverted expectations award because I was 5'1, 90lbs as a defender going up against 6'0+ dudes nearly double my weight and winning towards the end of the season. This helped put the lingering voices of doubt to rest. Thank you

The thing about arm wrestling is there's actually a fair bit of technique involved. My great grandfather won national competitions for arm wrestling in his youth (true story) and could beat everyone he knew up till his death at 90. He wasn't especially strong, but he knew how to leverage what weight and strength he had. EDIT: spelling

I have problems with neither Shaun's nor PJW's voice. Both are better than e.g. Sargon of Akkad (although I like some of his content) or TYT hosts with Cenk's manierism and Ana's conviction of her superior morality, yet they have many viewers. I enjoy watching Shaun and like some of his points. Although his cherrypicking on his opponents to ridicule them and distance himself or pulling labels of women-haters, racists or Nazis out of his ass is pretty maddening.

As a massive rugby fan I often enjoy watching the women's game...of course one of the highlights of rugby is watching massive specimens of muscle and fury smashing into each other with the velocity and determination of coked up freight trains and the women's game happily provides in this regard. So every time I hear the "rationals" declare that they, as average men, would easily beat female athletes I always enjoy imagining them take the field against the New Zealand women's rugby team...it makes for quite a cathartic and humorous mental image.

+HNIC lots of male athletes fall far below that 10% line, though. We can also pretty safely assume that the most genetically capable women aren't actually engaged in their sport in the same way men are, as women aren't as encouraged to engage in sports overall. There's also the fact that female athletes aren't funded as well as male athletes, so they receive respectively worse training and do worse for it, and men's sports have had longer to perfect technique etc. Most female Olympians would beat the male Olympians of like 30 years ago, and all that, so there's no reason to assume that female athletes can't close the performance gap over time in a lot of sports.

+InnerPartisan Germany has a long history of producing great athletes, and a soccer game between two teams is about strategy and technique as well. Brazil isn't some sort of invincible team; they can be defeated as well, despite having such a strong winning streak. If it had been a female German team versus a male Brazilian team, then it is almost guaranteed that the Brazil team would have easily won. Women aren't as strong or fast as males, and don't perform as well as male players.

That's not how comparisons work. Here's the important difference: Scenario A: A women's national team was crushed by a random boys' team, meaning that the absolute best, experienced players of one gender were thoroughly outclassed by some of the worst, inexperienced players of the other gender. Scenario B: In the case of Germany vs Brazil, we have two teams who are both national teams, aka the best players in their country, same gender, facing each other at the top level. Little side fact on your attempted quip as well: Players on the national teams do not necessarily possess genes inherent to a specific region. They come from all over. They just happen to be born in Germany. One of Germany's best players is of African descent. Does it ever surprise you how stupid you allow yourself to get, or do you just ignore it and continue? Do you ever learn anything new, or is that of no interest to you? I'm genuinely curious.
The Irritable Viking That's not how paying attention works. In the example in the video it was not a case of the "best, experienced players of one gender" playing against the "the worst, inexperienced players of another gender". Those were not the people playing in that match. Why don't you actually watch Shaun's discussion of it; it starts around 10:50. Along with learning who the actual players were you'll learn that the goal for the woman's team wasn't to actually win; that has a big impact on whether you win or not, if you could believe it. Or alternatively, you could just ignore any part of reality that exists even slightly outside your personal, preconceived world view, I suppose.

Men who have this need to be "better" than women seem really insecure about their _actual_ value. What if women were flat out better than men at everything? To these guys it's like that would mean they have no value, which completely leaves out the idea of simply having value as a _person_. If you look around in your life at the people you really care about, how many of them do you love because they're good at X, Y or Z skill? I hope none. I hope that people don't value their loved ones based on that person's ability to rebuild a carburetor or beat them in tennis. I'm not personally threatened by the idea of anyone being better than me at any given thing. My value as a person (to the people I care about at least, and those are the only ones whose opinion of me matters) isn't based on tasks and feats I can perform. I'm emotionally supportive and available to my loved ones and listen to their concerns. That's really all it takes to be indispensable in somebody's life but it seems like a lot of guys don't get that because they're hung up on "being a _man_". I'll let them in on a secret tho; the first step in being a great _man_ is to be a great _person_.
When I see that dislike/like ratio but then scroll down to see all completely supportive and smart comments all getting love and good discourse it makes me think "looks like all that happened was a dislike brigade sweeping through". Shaun is highlighting the narrow-mindedness of PJW's argument by highlighting further context and background, it's not 'nitpicky', it's analytical. In regards to the arm wrestling match: he's an MMA fighter, and she's a strong woman - not an arm wrestler. Additionally, he throws his whole shoulder weight into the match, whereas she's playing with just her arm strength - so you can see why she would have had to give in so quickly. Like Shaun said, if you can deadlift the amount of weight she can - then continue to bang on about how women are shit at sports. @XerDav What happened is that Sargon made a video examining studies on campus rape and a guy called Garret made a 30 minute long video response to it pointing out where he went wrong or misinterpreted/misread the studies. Sargon responded by saying he didn't have time for it and asked him if he could sum it up in 5 minutes. Since then the Sargon has become an official demonimation of time in comment sections like this. There are other units like pentisargon (1 minute standard time) and duodecasargon (1 hour standard time) but they're very rarely used.
As an average twenty something, I'm almost certain the 16 year old would kick my ass at soccer/football. Hell, I'm sure the worlds strongest women could flex in my direction and I would break 3 ribs.

You say Paul Joseph Waston is a shoulder to cry for all those fragile men who are scared of ladies? Speaking as a woman who is better at Martial Arts than quite a large number of men could ever hope to be, I can think of a few men who might be comforted by him. Until they remember I exist anyway. And in case anyone who looks at this is thinking it's a bit disturbing and wrong to see a woman being confident about her abilities in sports, it's part of the Martial Arts mindset. You can't go around thinking you're a bit crap or lacking confidence, that won't get you anywhere, and that applies as much to women as men.
Speaking as a dude who had a crappy experience with martial arts (TL;DR: Went to a McDojo, quit, gave up martial arts out of shame) Please know that I'm happy that you had a good experience, and proud of your accomplishments. Also, kudos on it being Choy Li Fut, I always thought that style's forms looked totally kickass.

Now, nine years later all I need to work on to pass my first senior black belt is technique and many amounts of of free fighting. (South Africa takes a very harsh approach to budo martial arts, since we have a much more violent and thus harsh culture.) I hope you continue to do well and master the techniques!
I too am under the belief that we should lift the gender segregation in sports that involve more skill then power like horse riding and shooting. You don’t need to be Thor in order to ride a horse or pick up a gun and fire it.

Paul Joseph Watson should watch more ballet, in particular the male drag ballet company the Les Ballets Trockedero de Monte Carlo. Although they are cleaner than ever before and insanely talented and funny, these professionally trained male dancers who perform all the female roles of ballets for comic effect, do so with less virtuosity and skill than female dancers, as well as less developed/attractive "lines" and pointe work. Does that mean women are inherently superior at pointe work and female ballet roles? No, it means men and women train differently and practice different variations so that they can perform the different roles in ballets. The more identically people train the more identically they perform. Likewise, People who train at crappy ballet schools are not inherently worse at ballet than those who train at elite schools, they are just receiving worse training. As the Trocks have gained more success, more male dancers have begun training earlier to be on pointe with the goal of joining that company. And lo and behold, the Trock's standard for technique and lines has been getting higher. Also, its harder for a female dancer to do jumps that male dancers are trained to do (and on average also pirouettes, but it's easier for men to feel the gross mechanics due to center of gravity and upper body muscle mass, so they almost always feel more comfortable and can pull off multiple revolutions with crappier technique). But there's still an issue of training. Men are trained with an emphases jumps (there are separate men's classes just to work on jumps and turns). If you did genuinely train ballet dancers identically, it would look much more identical than it does now where women and men do not train identically (while still maintaining relatively consistent differences in fatigue on some moves and the height of the jump due to some mechanics and average mass/center of mass and center of gravity). Even more obvious to my point, I could claim women inherently suck at doing the male role in pas de deux (partnering). The actual feminist argument is that training is not identical anyways. Men and women do not live in a world with identical conditions for life or training. If they did, there would still be differences due to average body composition, but you don't actually get to scrutinize that terribly successfully since training conditions are on average nowhere near identical because we start from square one with different gender expectations. Anyways, PJW doesn't know crap all about training because he hasn't trained to do crap all. PJW doesn't really have the mindset to get out of his comfort zone and learn about the world around him in any novel way, so of course he is wholesale oblivious to these athletes. It probably never occurred to him that if you want to talk about athletic performance, you might want to check if your stupid hypotheses holds up against some of the most athletic humans on the planet, aka ballet dancers.

Another thing that we must not forget about is the quantitative differences between the samples of men and women from which "the best of the best" are being selected. Due to societal encouragement and discouragement, there are much more men than women in many sports. Roughly speaking, it's quite easy for the best 11 out of a group of 1000 to be integrally better than the best 11 out of a group of 100 (with the same or even slightly better talent saturation).

Damn, i played backyard football with males and females in high school. The guys didnt discourage the girls because the girls did well. Why is merit so often outside of consideration for liberals?
Sure, but it's likely that even if, theoretically, you completely leveled the playing field with no societal encouragement/discouragement based on gender, there would still be a disparity with more men than women in many sports, because of the influence of higher testosterone on competitive drive and some other hormonal factors. That said, I completely agree with getting rid of the disparity to the extent that it is caused by societal factors.

The management probably wanted to experiment, and to see what player layouts and plays might work best, and they clearly got it wrong here. That’s the point of this match - to get stuff wrong while it’s okay to, instead of getting it wrong at the Olympics, one of the most crucial events of the players’ lives. Also worth noting that most modern sports were invented by men, for men, in male dominated cultures. So it's not surprising that many of these sports explicitly favor men, and are based around certain physical capacities they tend to be naturally better at. Sports aren't this immaculate, universal measure of ability; we decided where the goalposts are both literally and figuratively, we chose what stats to measure. We essentially determined what a statement like "being good at sports" even means.

Thank you, I've seen trans and intersex athletes absolutely predominate any discussions about womens sports for the past 5 years (and still no meaningful discourse has been had) as if its the only 'threat' to women's sports and female athletes. Most competitive sports were made by a bunch of old men 100+ years ago, during a time where we knew much less than we do now about biological sex and the body in general, and relatively little has changed since. But still it sometimes also depends on genetics so one female might have better genes than one male but the overall it still is the male population that is stronger. It's only 2 years later, but just last week I was at an old fashioned mens only club where everyone was watching and cheering on the English female football team! And they played very well without any fart noises or anything! A lot of the 'normal', 'professional' football matches I've seen recently have been terrible shit shows.
And even those teams that gave you that shit shows would defeat the USWNT(the best women's team in the world) at least by 30-0 if they played serious the whole game..

Sometimes it's segregated by gender because people get up in arms over women outperforming the men. Like chess, or shooting as you mentioned. I think most sports should be open to all genders and the remainder divided into weight or skill classes and such. MMA and boxing are possible exceptions.

For example, while testosterone is known for aggression, societal & social norms on how we teach boys how to be more "masculine": tough, rough, aggressive & independent could also have a huge impact on testosterone, it's production & its impacts.

Ok I’m a girl and I used to play soccer or football on a team with boys And girls. We were all almost equally balanced with our performances. Hell, majority of the girls were on offense and we did pretty well. I don’t play anymore, but given how certain men and women are, men and women are capable of being in sports together.

When discussing cis men and cis women in sports, we also have to consider how much of the reported difference comes from environment. Like, American and Chinese men's teams are consistently rubbish at soccer, but most people (Except blatant racists I guess) wouldn't say that's because American and Chinese are biologically worse at soccer than say, Brazilian or German men. Instead, people point to how America and China don't have the same children's soccer culture from which to train and draw the best players. The same is true of women pretty much everywhere.

this legit made me cry. I was in a coed high school soccer team and hearing the things people like PJW would say really hurt and caused me to go home crying after practices and debate quitting the team. However at the end of the season, my coach gave me the most improved award, but he said was also the subverted expectations award because I was 5'1, 90lbs as a defender going up against 6'0+ dudes nearly double my weight and winning towards the end of the season.

The thing about arm wrestling is there's actually a fair bit of technique involved. My great grandfather won national competitions for arm wrestling in his youth (true story) and could beat everyone he knew up till his death at 90. He wasn't especially strong, but he knew how to leverage what weight and strength he had.

I have problems with neither Shaun's nor PJW's voice. Both are better than e.g. Sargon of Akkad (although I like some of his content) or TYT hosts with Cenk's manierism and Ana's conviction of her superior morality, yet they have many viewers.
I enjoy watching Shaun and like some of his points. Although his cherrypicking on his opponents to ridicule them and distance himself or pulling labels of women-haters, racists or Nazis out of his ass is pretty maddening.

As a massive rugby fan I often enjoy watching the women's game...of course one of the highlights of rugby is watching massive specimens of muscle and fury smashing into each other with the velocity and determination of coked up freight trains and the women's game happily provides in this regard. So every time I hear the "rationals" declare that they, as average men, would easily beat female athletes I always enjoy imagining them take the field against the New Zealand women's rugby team...it makes for quite a cathartic and humorous mental image.

+HNIC lots of male athletes fall far below that 10% line, though. We can also pretty safely assume that the most genetically capable women aren't actually engaged in their sport in the same way men are, as women aren't as encouraged to engage in sports overall.
There's also the fact that female athletes aren't funded as well as male athletes, so they receive respectively worse training and do worse for it, and men's sports have had longer to perfect technique etc. Most female Olympians would beat the male Olympians of like 30 years ago, and all that, so there's no reason to assume that female athletes can't close the performance gap over time in a lot of sports.

If it had been a female German team versus a male Brazilian team, then it is almost guaranteed that the Brazil team would have easily won. Women aren't as strong or fast as males, and don't perform as well as male players.

That's not how comparisons work. Here's the important difference:
Scenario A: A women's national team was crushed by a random boys' team, meaning that the absolute best, experienced players of one gender were thoroughly outclassed by some of the worst, inexperienced players of the other gender.
Scenario B: In the case of Germany vs Brazil, we have two teams who are both national teams, aka the best players in their country, same gender, facing each other at the top level.
Little side fact on your attempted quip as well: Players on the national teams do not necessarily possess genes inherent to a specific region. They come from all over. They just happen to be born in Germany. One of Germany's best players is of African descent.

Along with learning who the actual players were you'll learn that the goal for the woman's team wasn't to actually win; that has a big impact on whether you win or not, if you could believe it. Or alternatively, you could just ignore any part of reality that exists even slightly outside your personal, preconceived world view, I suppose.

Men who have this need to be "better" than women seem really insecure about their _actual_ value. What if women were flat out better than men at everything? To these guys it's like that would mean they have no value, which completely leaves out the idea of simply having value as a _person_. If you look around in your life at the people you really care about, how many of them do you love because they're good at X, Y or Z skill? I hope none. I hope that people don't value their loved ones based on that person's ability to rebuild a carburetor or beat them in tennis.
I'm not personally threatened by the idea of anyone being better than me at any given thing. My value as a person (to the people I care about at least, and those are the only ones whose opinion of me matters) isn't based on tasks and feats I can perform. I'm emotionally supportive and available to my loved ones and listen to their concerns. That's really all it takes to be indispensable in somebody's life but it seems like a lot of guys don't get that because they're hung up on "being a _man_". I'll let them in on a secret tho; the first step in being a great _man_ is to be a great _person_.

In regards to the arm wrestling match: he's an MMA fighter, and she's a strong woman - not an arm wrestler. Additionally, he throws his whole shoulder weight into the match, whereas she's playing with just her arm strength - so you can see why she would have had to give in so quickly. Like Shaun said, if you can deadlift the amount of weight she can - then continue to bang on about how women are shit at sports. (Also: PJW completely misrepresents the info in his own video by saying that an MMA fighter is an 'average' man, so there's that too.)

I love watching women's hockey way more than men's. The women's teams tend to play more interestingly rather than just constantly smash into each other.

What happened is that Sargon made a video examining studies on campus rape and a guy called Garret made a 30 minute long video response to it pointing out where he went wrong or misinterpreted/misread the studies. Sargon responded by saying he didn't have time for it and asked him if he could sum it up in 5 minutes. Since then the Sargon has become an official demonimation of time in comment sections like this.
There are other units like pentisargon (1 minute standard time) and duodecasargon (1 hour standard time) but they're very rarely used.

And in case anyone who looks at this is thinking it's a bit disturbing and wrong to see a woman being confident about her abilities in sports, it's part of the Martial Arts mindset. You can't go around thinking you're a bit crap or lacking confidence, that won't get you anywhere, and that applies as much to women as men.

Paul Joseph Watson should watch more ballet, in particular the male drag ballet company the Les Ballets Trockedero de Monte Carlo.
Although they are cleaner than ever before and insanely talented and funny, these professionally trained male dancers who perform all the female roles of ballets for comic effect, do so with less virtuosity and skill than female dancers, as well as less developed/attractive "lines" and pointe work.
Does that mean women are inherently superior at pointe work and female ballet roles?
No, it means men and women train differently and practice different variations so that they can perform the different roles in ballets.
The more identically people train the more identically they perform. Likewise, People who train at crappy ballet schools are not inherently worse at ballet than those who train at elite schools, they are just receiving worse training.
As the Trocks have gained more success, more male dancers have begun training earlier to be on pointe with the goal of joining that company. And lo and behold, the Trock's standard for technique and lines has been getting higher.
Also, its harder for a female dancer to do jumps that male dancers are trained to do (and on average also pirouettes, but it's easier for men to feel the gross mechanics due to center of gravity and upper body muscle mass, so they almost always feel more comfortable and can pull off multiple revolutions with crappier technique). But there's still an issue of training. Men are trained with an emphases jumps (there are separate men's classes just to work on jumps and turns).
If you did genuinely train ballet dancers identically, it would look much more identical than it does now where women and men do not train identically (while still maintaining relatively consistent differences in fatigue on some moves and the height of the jump due to some mechanics and average mass/center of mass and center of gravity).
Even more obvious to my point, I could claim women inherently suck at doing the male role in pas de deux (partnering).
The actual feminist argument is that training is not identical anyways. Men and women do not live in a world with identical conditions for life or training. If they did, there would still be differences due to average body composition, but you don't actually get to scrutinize that terribly successfully since training conditions are on average nowhere near identical because we start from square one with different gender expectations.
Anyways, PJW doesn't know crap all about training because he hasn't trained to do crap all.
PJW doesn't really have the mindset to get out of his comfort zone and learn about the world around him in any novel way, so of course he is wholesale oblivious to these athletes. It probably never occurred to him that if you want to talk about athletic performance, you might want to check if your stupid hypotheses holds up against some of the most athletic humans on the planet, aka ballet dancers.

Due to societal encouragement and discouragement, there are much more men than women in many sports. Roughly speaking, it's quite easy for the best 11 out of a group of 1000 to be integrally better than the best 11 out of a group of 100 (with the same or even slightly better talent saturation).

The Newcastle Jets aren’t a bad football team. They’re some of the best footballers in the entire continent of Oceania. So it’s no wonder that their oldest junior team might beat a women’s team, especially when the women’s team isn’t trying their best because they’re just trying to get into shape before a much more important competition. Not only were the players on the women’s side not dedicated to winning, the managers wasn’t either. The management probably wanted to experiment, and to see what player layouts and plays might work best, and they clearly got it wrong here. That’s the point of this match - to get stuff wrong while it’s okay to, instead of getting it wrong at the Olympics, one of the most crucial events of the players’ lives. It’s such a dumb example of male superiority, because I don’t even know a lot about football and even I know it’s ridiculous

Thank you, I've seen trans and intersex athletes absolutely predominate any discussions about womens sports for the past 5 years (and still no meaningful discourse has been had) as if its the only 'threat' to women's sports and female athletes. For example, while testosterone is known for aggression, societal & social norms on how we teach boys how to be more "masculine": tough, rough, aggressive & independent could also have a huge impact on testosterone, it's production & its impacts.

When discussing cis men and cis women in sports, we also have to consider how much of the reported difference comes from environment. Like, American and Chinese men's teams are consistently rubbish at soccer, but most people (Except blatant racists I guess) wouldn't say that's because American and Chinese are biologically worse at soccer than say, Brazilian or German men. Instead, people point to how America and China don't have the same children's soccer culture from which to train and draw the best players. The same is true of women pretty much everywhere.

@@jacobreichert8808 there literally aren't. Race doesn't exist, it's a political construct and most biologists will tell you this. Multiple studies have been done on the subject, and it doesn't even really make sense to divide people in the racial catagories we made if you're talking in terms of biological differences, they don't follow racial lines.

Ethnicity is more of a sociology term, as it also refers to a shared culture and history, and is only ever applied to humans.
Ethnicity and nationality are not very good biological markers because generally involve lots of different populations with different gene pools, which also may not share the same location, the same evolutionary pressures, or the same mate selection, all of which will affect the descendants' genetics.
It can be relevant if the group is of a small enough population or one that has been reproductively segregated, because then the allelic distribution is less likely to vary and are more vulnerable to bottleneck effects which may lead to unique diseases.

I would love to throw my hat in for motorsport in this one. We have some promising women coming up through single-seater development series and women like Sophia Flörsch and Sabine Schmitz are (or were) some really fuckin' fast ladies behind the wheel.
