Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. At first I felt sad, but quickly realized this is actually full of positive energy. She was able to leave a toxic situation AND did it her way. She's courageous, smart, and inspiring.
I appreciate your comment. We have to walk in each other's shoes. This may not be something you personally may want to do, but at least it took her out of a potentially dangerous situation and she's able to move at will and do what she needs to do. Kudos to her!

I too have been in a similar situation . Leaving with just my small car and 2 dogs. It is hard starting over at 50 in 2012 with no money in the bank. Slow and steady we can do it. I will get my van one day and that's all I need as a minimalist.

When I left my toxic marriage, I moved from my large home into a studio apartment and it really was like a cocoon of safety. The feeling is indescribable. I just felt so safe. I hope she goes on to live a beautiful life❤️
I am trying to get this going myself. I have a plan and I think one weekend I will load up everything and go. I will get the apartment first and slowly move things over so not to be noticed then I will find the right time to take the big stuff and go.

I left a toxic 32 year marriage and moved to a small place. My safe place. A place to heal, to feel at peace. To love myself and to heal the trauma. I love what this woman has created. Very impressive. Such resiliency!!!💗

@@valeriehancotte-galan4790 ESPECIALLY in a situation where you don't have a support system, like many don't (abusers alienate your close ones very often) because you'll just end up staying while waiting for a support system ...you definitely only need yourself if you're going to get out, and then once you're out (transition house or other) you can start building a support system going forward
@@valeriehancotte-galan4790 it’s been very tough. I was very isolated and still am for the most part as I’m trying to clear out of this house entirely on my own. I only had one person I turn to in the beginning of the end. But I quickly reached out to a lot of old friends that had slipped away… I was actually surprised at how many old friends suspected abuse but they didn’t know what to do. They’re there for me now over text, over phone but they’re still all so far away. I’m hoping that’ll change soon.

I've known many women over the years that have been in "toxic" relationships because their spouses were opposed to "ladies night out" or their spend happy ways supported by her maxed out credit cards that she paid for with "her money". It seems that toxic is a go to for any woman that isn't "Instagram happy" these days, so they quickly start swiping right, and are then shocked to discover that there are consequences to this action.

No man or woman should lay hands on another, but if they do you have a right to use necessary physical force to defend yourself if the threat continues to be present...however if you engage in the use of physical force in retaliation for someone having assaulted you, without the threat continuing to be present, then you are now committing assault and battery.

What I love about this video is how honest it is. Her van is realistic and shows us that it is feasible. While other aesthetic van life videos are visually pleasing, they also feel intimidating and nearly unreachable.

I have one going in my bedroom 24/7 (it is also my office now we are in forced telecommute mode). Value Village and Goodwill has pretty much furnished my home since I started raising my son on my own 20 years ago, I got out of a bad relationship as well. lol, I have a hard time buying anything new because of the years of 2nd handing it. Brava! I thought this would just be another van tour, but it is the tale of a courageous woman who turned a dangerous living situation into one that's safe, and full of promise. The Caravan build is very nice, but it's Gail's story that's outstanding. I hope that everything has gone well for her.

This hit home for me as I ran away, too. I blended in living in my car and then a van, in NYC, ages 47 through 51. The PTSD, from living life, is real. Whatever we have to do to create safe space and stay safe is what we're supposed to do. It's okay to cry. I'm with you in the thrive. We've got this.

I know, right? I kept thinking she would be a wonderful van build consultant. She could have a nice lucrative business, network and help people all at the same time.
Yeah, "thought of everything"...squirreled away thousands of dollars in a relationship for her personal needs, turned to a male friend to build out the van...and thinks that she will be able to survive Saskatchewan's January and February winter weather huddled in a van. It ain't going to be Pinterest easy.

There’s some women who can’t get into a transition house or the circumstances are different (more psychological torture and emotional torture rather than physical). I wish I/we could create some type of thing where we can help women put something together to that is safer than their homes so they can get out.

Nice job but you sound sad and scared. If you can , sell your house and get a Thor Compass, or a Winnebago Travato. This is stopgap and affordable . If you are going to be full time it will give you safety and comfort. Also suggest for safety you get a tazer/ stunner, and a ring camera for your vehicle, solar panel back up power

I can understand her very well. After being emotionally and physically abused by my former wife for decades, I escaped to live in my car for a year and a half. My car was my refuge and a place to be happy.

Wonderful lady, positive and ingenious. She is a great inspiration for women in troubled domestic situations. Get out and be safe, don’t stay if you feel unsafe.
Agreed... there’s just so many different layers. You get chipped away, your confidence is undermined. Overtime you’re not the same person that you were when you entered the relationship. You are just a shell. It’s like like my in a cult... Stockholm syndrome, or they now call it trauma bonding-it keeps you stuck. You I have to grab a toehold and pull yourself out of it with all your might. It’s brutal but worth it.
These are strange times we live in. No one is immune to a potential downturn. Knowing this information gives solutions and hope. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.

I worked at a DV center and so admire this dear woman's courage to leave her situation and start her new, happier, safer chapter. Many, who've not been in such circumstances, understand how difficult leaving can be. So bless you and her for sharing her story. Secondly, what a terrifically designed van/home she has designed. I love her concept of cocoon. There is a sense of coziness and yet efficiency in that concept and in her design

Chrome!! again this shows how real of a person you are to do this for her so she can share her story. It's hard for people to understand if they haven't experienced hard times. I am a mountain man type of guy and this made me shed some tears feeling her pain but also those tears are of happiness to see how she took control of her life and is kicking ass. I stand up and applaud this lady and anyone else that goes through hard times and takes control for a positive change. Yes he did an amazing job. Because of my circumstances didn’t really know who Chrome was or what he did before I met him. I had heard his name mentioned a couple times in a group that I just joined but TBH My life is so crazy at the time I hadn’t looked them up until after I did the tour with him. I’m blown away at his talents.

I'd love to buy land and let people who are reestablishing their lives from bad relationships live for free on.
Maybe a grant program through United way or start your own program create what you believe or see. That's a vision. Interesting thought you came up with yet how to be protected on property, and others who lived on property.
I have thought of a similar idea. To allow others who have lost their job, been evicted or are homeless to stay on my property until they get back on their feet. They would work the property, help with the animals and plant and maintain a garden to offset food costs. Those I mention this idea to discourage me......saying people will take advantage of me. What about security....following rules etc...I' m not sure about how to get this started! Any ideas?
@@anniokli1603 I though about the same thing, like a modern day women's commune/art colony, growing our food in a large community garden. I also had a friend tell me that people would take advantage of me or cause problems, too. I saw a video of a guy who bought land and created a tiny house park. It was hard to get approvals for it but it's a great idea.

When I win the half billion dollar lottery I will do just that...provide a place for the homeless so they can bathe and feed and sleep just like all us normal people. If any of you young pretty lady’s are serious and interested in helping me house, feed and bathe the homeless leave your pictures and phone numbers on my YT channel and I will eventually respond...
