I only go to places where I am welcomed. If tourist say they don't want me there, I stay away.
I dealt with a rude hotel and probably racist employee in Scotland, and I never went back. The world is big. I understand their grievances. They have spoken. Go where you are appreciated.
Americans romanticize Europe so much. Latinamerica is just as beautiful. Most countries love tourists revenue. Protest Barcelona. They don't want you there.

It is their rights for Spaniards to ban tourists into their country. I don’t think one day they woke up and asked the government that they wanted their town inflated by strangers causing prices to go up in all aspects of their lives. We should be looking ourselves in that mirror going forward. It is starting to happen in our country while I see some celebrating for millions coming in.

Well said Charlie, you expressed it the right way without being controversial, because my friend posted a something earlier today, but he was a bit more explicit, and for that reason YT deleted the comment.

The thing is that airbnb has not respect for renters and hotel owners. I never stay in airbnbs when I go to Spain or Dominican Republic. I respect locals and renting airbns has a very negative for renters ( middle and low middle class ). Airbnb must be regulated or even banned. They are not just affecting renters, but hotel owners and hotel workers as well.

This is indeed an interesting topic which I think it's going to gain even more notoriety in the near future. If you ask me, this is an issue which doesn't have any immediate solution due to the conflict of interests. On one hand, you have an enourmous source of money which reppresents the income of hundred of thousands of people, from big hotel owners to waiters and everything in between. Without tourism, Spain would lose up to 11% of its GDP and we all know how catastrophic that could be. On the other hand, you can see that touristic cities are way more expensive to live in and the people who work in the tourism sector are not able to afford living in the cities where they work. It's obvious that these cities need to find the middle ground, however all the ways to this so called middle ground are clearly suboptimal. Should they limit tourism? What's the "right number" of tourists? Who decides who gets to come and who doesn't? Should there be some sort of "quota"? What would they do with people who are from the Schengen Area? Because their rights would be violated if they can't freely enter a country which is part of the Area. If instead of stablishing a "quota" they decided to charge some sort of "fee", wouldn't that be an 80-year-old regression to a time in which only the rich could afford to travel? Now, if they don't do anything, is this model in which the actual inhabitants can't afford to live in their city really sustainable? Besides, can you actually regulate platforms such as AirBnB? They tried to do that in my country and it just created a black market because these platforms and their users don't really abide by the Law (which is quite infuriating if you ask me as they have way too much power). Furthermore, in this case we aren't even considering the effects tourism has on heritage sites, which creates a new dilemma because if the mere presence of tourists damages them in the long run and therefore, a reduced ammount of people can visit, aren't we missing the point of an heritage site which should be appreciated by a lot of people? Basically, it's an interesting debate overall and I will be following it closely during the years to come. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk hahaha.
