Great information! I have been using neutral +2, -4, 0, 0 almost never color grade. I disagree about cinestyle though. If you know about log you know that all log is noisy in the shadows until you bring them down. With log you expose high and bring it down in post to not have noisy images. But it does have better Dynamic range. But you do need to color grade much more.
The Crowley Crew thank you for sharing that information. Hopefully, that may help individuals decide which option better suits their needs.
Video starts at 5:00
hutchyy thank you!
Thanks
I wish I read this comment before watching. JK, great video.
Great advice mate thank you. I'm on a 6d mark ii and I've been playing with settings trying to get this sort of profile. It does look good, thank you once again 👍
Thank you as well! That is an awesome camera with good capabilities. I would always suggest color grading in camera when shooting anything other than RAW video.
GREAT VIDEO. Thank you very much, Cody!!!!!
Thank you so much I learnt a lot and I'll be shooting my next video in your custom 2 recommendation with my canon 80d.
Eunice Obire awesome!! I used another profile now. When shooting RUclips content I use the following.
Faithful setting
0, -3, +1, 0
Great! was looking for something native from canon! Thanks!
thanks for the video ! will play around with the different settings !
You are very welcome.
Bruh, I’m new to photography and videography - thank you so very much for this. I have a Canon SL1 & Canon 90D. These programmable logs are awesome and extremely helpful for the novice. I’m working on color grading and this gives me a better start.
Yes!!!! Welcome to the industry. You are going to do great things and help many. Reach out if you need help.
Thank you bro! Your insights are well valued 💎🤟🏽 stay blessed stay safe!
That really means alot. Thank you so much!!
If you have the time to colour grade, then use cinestyle, grain on the shadows is kinda part of the look, that's a great starting point. But if you just want the best footage out of camera then experiment and tweak everything yourself till you nail it, as filmmakers we create a visual language that tells a story, so find that language and tell your stories
That is a beautiful set of words of encouragement!
Cinestyle forgot to mention its base ISO. Probably around 400 - 800. Third party C-LOG needs ND filter to hit the right exposure. Without ND filter, you'd be getting overexposed or underexposed results most of the time.
This is very helpful! I will try them out and let u know how it goes.
Cyril Bruce-Cathline yes! Send me a link
Hi Cody, I'm pretty new to shooting Canon, mark iv specifically. which of the custom picture settings would you recommend for food videos please? I'm pretty desperate..thanks
If you do color grading and then upgrade to the log installment you can get with the firmware update. If you do not color grade then use 0,-1,+1,+1
Thank you !! This was so helpful
I will be doing this on my 7D
Minimal Aesthetic thank you! Post some footage for me to see!
Thanks. I just bought a Canon 80D, and now I know what profiles I will be recording :-) Greetings from Poland.
billykid3 yes!!! Send me some footage when you get going!
@@CodyScott OK no problem. I will add a video on my YT channel :-)
thank you for the info, i really appreciate it 👍
Thank you for doing great work!
hi Cody
thanks for sharing these setting and i want to know what camera do you have i have canon 60D mm
I am currently using the black magic pocket cinema camera 6K
Very helpful video! I am new in this camera world, I don’t understand why it’s so important to color grade in post. The real camera colors aren’t that great? And how do you do to not ruin the video when you color grade ? To find natural skin tones and colors
To better your quality and match images.
Bit depth and bit rate will help you keep the image together.
This was awesome. Game changer! Subscribed.
DEE thank you! Try faithful. 0,-3,+1,0
Fantastik! I use 3 of your setings;) thank you
Wonderful thank you so much!
Great video... Thank you!
MikeDay509 awesome!!! Thank you
I installed the Cinestyle profile in my EOS 750D camera and then i had problem with the face tracking focus mode in this profile.
Hi Mr, I'm using canon m50 with kit lens, I shoot outside videos in open farmland for cooking videos, what are your recommended settings to get a cinematic look & stand out from my competitors?
Learn to Color grade. That’s how you get a cinematic look
Hi Cody Scott. I really like the color tone called Devin Supertramp but the clarity for the standard color profile is set to +1 (default setting). Do I need to change it to 0? Thank you.
Edit: I am a Nikon D3500 user
Hey there! I hope all is well. For the clarity setting, I suggest keeping it at +1. However, this is only suggested for new canon models. For Nikon, if “clarity” is expressed as sharpness, the. You’ll need to reduce the amount.
The theory here is to reduce the digital look that is expressed in mirrorless or dslr cameras. And the solutions regardless of the camera is to lower contrast, reduce sharpness, reduce saturation, and increase dynamic range.
I hope this helps. I’m willing to help you find a comfortable profile if you do some testing.
Thank you!
thank you. I wonder if I have canon 5k mark ii and increase sharpness, will my 1080p video look like or (near to) 4k?
That will depend on where and what your audience will be viewing the final video on. If you upscale your video to 4K and add clarity, mid tone detail and sharpness you can get away with it =)
@@CodyScott Thank You.
Nice vídeo thanks for the info, i would like to know which color profile works better for a low light scene?
The better low light performance is due to your ISO being at its base ISO
@@CodyScott thanks for your answer, do You still recommend the neutral settings on your video by this date?
@@Swampfox87 I recommend to settings based upon peoples workflows. One setting is straight out of Camera and the other is a log profile that will require color grading
Finally found what i need 😍 thanks brother
Muhammad Alzam dude I am so happy for you. I’d love to see your content once you style
This is really helpful thanks
My pleasure
For your third profile - “neutral blend” - are you starting with the Neutral setting? Or Standard? Thanks!
Ben Sanders start with neutral
Been looking for a video like this everywhere. Much thanks!
THank you! Stick around and wait until 11:00am on thursday. This thursday. I teach an updated version that is MUCH better than this video.
@@CodyScott Oh really? If it involves the camera's own picture profiles, I'll look forward to it. I just don't want to shoot log or install any 3rd party profiles.
@@jdgarcia5001 I agree. And here is the most valuable piece of info you are looking for. So you don't have to watch the entire video (although its helpful, but long.) Switch your picture profile over to "FAITHFUL" your settings will be 0, -3, +1, 0. You will have to grade the image, (I teach this in the video,) but it gives you so much dynamic range and clean colors.
@@CodyScott Thanks. That's interesting. I had been wondering which profile would produce the most dynamic range. I would have never figured Faithful. I'll definitely give it a try. And looking forward to the video.
@@CodyScott hello there, sir! Can i have the video link about your new picture style setting 'faithful'? Would like to check it out.
Nice video dude, What about in lowlight situation? What profile picture or settings for canon will be the best. Most of them, if we use flat profile pic (cinestyle? in lowlight there will be a lot of noise. What will be the best settings that I can use to have good color grading in post production. Thanks a lot. Godbless.
Because the footage is 8 Bit you will get a similar result no matter the picture profile. I suggest lower-end model cameras like this to get your colors in-camera. The less work you have to do to an 8-bit image the better. Add some Noise Reduction in post and your good.
@@CodyScott Thank you so much Cody🙂
Whats best settings for me for casual video like whip my camera out to get a quick clip of some random interesting thing?
I have canon SL with tamron 18-200mm Di II VC lens. its a very soft lens even at its sharpest aperture setting and sharpest focus.
Ive taken some test screenshots of video at various sharpness levels 0 looks the most natural but very blurry and not crisp at all.
looks like 720p upscaled to 1080p because of how soft the video looks. but i know im shooting in 1080p 30FPS
if I do 3 sharpness it looks ok if i dont pay attention to the slight sharpening halo artifacts. and some aliasing and moire becoming visible.
What should I do for contrast brightness saturation for minimal to no post editing? I wont have much people in my video so skin tone isnt a concern.
my goal is to just have an averagely decent natural look to contrast colors and tone. Nothing emphasized too much. but not too bland or dull either. with none or as little post editing afterwards as possible.
Default standard settings look deep fried with eye bleeding saturation to me.
0, -1, +1, +1
My friend you think your settings +2, -4, -4, +1 is better to use than cinestyle? I am using Canon sl2!
Thanks
Sasa Totic yes!!!!!
portrait picture style customized sharpen contrast and saturation is the best for wedding filmmaking or not? pls give me any advice
༆LEGENĐ ࿐ I do weddings but I don’t post or master them. This video is a bit out dated actually. I don’t use these settings anymore.
What I found in my weddings are the following.
4K @ 30fps
Landscape profile
0, -1 +1 0
Or...
0, -2, +1, 0
If you shoot in actual log it’s a different story. I have a video on the way talking about how I shoot everything in log with the eosr.
Hope this helps.
wow nice idea i will use landscape picture profile 0,-2,+1, 0 Thank your advice I think this is no need to color grade and best straight out camera.I shoot with 6DMark2 and I also have eoshdclog pls give me advice for clog I dont know any more with clog. I need Saturated and soft skin tone straight out camera I will try your advice (landscap picture profile) Thanks
Love this, Cody. The 0,-1, 1, 1 standard picture style has made my canon t3i jpgs look great! Bryan Peterson suggests setting white balance to cloudy for exterior shots. Your thoughts on white balance?
That is so good to hear!
Thanks for sharing.
I use an expo disc for my white balance so I get it 100% accurate each time.
I use custom white balance or Kelvin.
Need a tutorial?
@@CodyScott yea sure
You should try out the filmkit picture profile - the closest you can get to LOG for cameras. It is $10 but worth the money.
👍🏼
Hi, eurocrats, can I install it on canon m50?, does it create any noise in the shadow ?
This video has helped me a lot,but i have little problem color grading flat profile shots
What do you use to color grade? Correct and convert, and then grade

The bitrate will I pact your quality. The more information you have the better your image will look.
Hi Cody, my 90D Sharpness has strength, fineness & threshold. All three combine in "Sharpness". Should I change every single one to "2"? Thanks.

#peksarm From Assam, India.
Yes sir you most certainly can
Thanks for the good video Cody. Do you still recommend these settings?
You are very welcome. I do not suggest using these settings. I would suggest using 0, -1, +1, +1 for any camera that does not have Log.
@@CodyScott hey there I know this video was posted a long time ago but , how do I find out if my camera even shoots in LOG?? And what does LOG stand for ?? Thanks
@@keystosuccess565 your camera will say “Log” in the menu settings. What camera do you use?
Log just means logarithmic curve. It’s the way your camera is capturing the image. It will look flatter. The benefit is for better color and dynamic range. It requires more work in post though.
@@CodyScott awesome thanks for the reply.
so I’m in the market for a camera , my goal is to film some basic RUclips Volgs .
I want that rich soft cinematic look.

Hey bro I am using canon eos _R plzz tell me how to get good color tone
shoot in c-log
subbed! and left a comment!!!
Thank you!!!!
Hi Cody. I just started out with photography. Does this work for portraits as well?
Jedd Ronin it does not. For portraits your shooting raw
Cody Scott Thanks but i don't really get it. It's not advisable to use this for portraits? Cause i shoot in raw but would also like to set my picture style to this
@@TheMahama When shooting stills, picture styles only have an effect on the JPEGs. The RAW by its nature ignores picture styles unlike when you shoot video where the picture style is “ baked in” to the footage.
for video what you recommend?
Yes :)
Shoot in LOG and use LUT to convert to REC 709, then color grade from there.
convert to REC 709? what does all of this mean lol

How to use color grading Make vedio brother
Hey brother, I have dozens of them on this channel. Check out some of the recent videos I’ve posted. I believe I posted them 1-2 months ago.
I'm getting banding in the sky shooting in cinestyle
You will get banding in your sky for 3 reasons. The polarizer you are using is cheap ($200 or lower.) The camera you are using is shooting in 8bit or 10 bit, and finally, the camera you are using is shooting cheap ($3,000 or lower.)
@@CodyScott today i shot sharpness all the way down to 0 the rest were at 4 and I got the best results. I only had to sharpen in post and add the canon log to record 709 at 40% and I got 0 banding. Have to make the most of what i can afford for now.
Will do more tests tomorrow.
I have a feeling its the high shutter speed that could be causing this over 1/300, I get banding only while the camera is tilting or panning. Not moving i don't see it
@@stanvisualseychelles932 These are great results! Please share a link to your video when you are done testing. This would be great to learn more about.
