- Why Expats complaing about Malta ? In todays podcast i have Tom Erik Skjonsberg joining me to discuss life in Malta for expats. In this country with over half a million citizens, we have 27% foreign people living in Malta. Tom is the Admin of Expats Malta group on Facebook, and daily he is seeing the complains of expats about Malta. In this podcast we are discussing the current situation in Malta, the cost of living in Malta and if Malta is still a good destination for people to move to.
Thank you to CastMe studio for hosting us in their studio located in Sliema

Hi Alex, I recently visited Malta for 5 days on Holiday. I loved the food and found the people both physically beautiful and very warm and friendly.
However, if one looked hard enough, it was clear to see that Malta has its issues, despite its beauty and benefits, and watching your videos upon my return has given me more context for what I experienced, and helped me to learn more about this interesting island. Thank you, and sending love back to Malta.
Great PodCast. Essential to people who want to leave in Malta.
Congratulations guys.
Your comments are also very reosonable and pass a great view without bias about the true day to day life in Malta.
YING & YANG PODCAST ☯️ 🎙️.
Alex, ONLY your "positivity" and " happy vibe" personality made this your 1st podcast shine and worth watching. Do I need to say more ??? 🤔.
Thanks Alex 🎤 😭 🎤 😊.
Cheers 👍🇲🇹❤️🇪🇺™️
Just back from Malta and i totally understand everything said. Great job Alex and Tom. Best wishes from UK
this is not a podcast, this is a conversation around the table
well done Alex! Looking forward to next one! :)
Please more of this! Really enjoyed it!
Good and bad in every place one chooses to live, issues much more polarised in a small country like Malta. As long as the sun shines then its a good day.
I'm not going to tutor anyone, but the grass is greener on the other side. As a Maltese born and raised, every country has its own good and bad but Malta is being destroyed because of politicians and the worst of all it's the European Union bullying countries like us.
Many leaders influencers back in the day have predicted the country would be the way it is.
Why do foreigners have a 2-5 percent tax as self employed yet a maltese born and raised pays the full amount ?
It's things like this that pisses me off. What about the refugees that are coming into my country and getting all the benefits for free from our hard paying money. The Maltese government apart from that helps them with building a company like these sirians with the gypsum and construction businesses. This is not right ! You help the poor and middle class people to get on their feet who are maltese cause of the cost of living in our country and not help these refugees who come with no identification.
This is very unfair to Maltese and no f@#£ing wonder why Maltese are leaving the country
We should have the right for freedom of speech, we can't say stuff like this as we are labeled as racists or fascists. We are Maltese and we are protective for our country.
Great podcast hopefully 1st of many be great to see a maltese on your next one to see about the local perspective keep up the great work siehbi
You’re both talking very clever and as it is enjoyed this very much
❤️
I am Maltese and I follow both on FB and YT. The maltese type that have seen the before and after and am happy to share the country with fine people. It would be good a Maltese contributes too from another perspective.
Would you like to join me on a podcast ? :)
Please be on his next podcast...would be interesting..lets see from the Maltese side ..say yes pls 😁
Hyy man I can get your Instagram please I want to ask you something
Good to finally "meet" Tom . Great video. Surprised that the construction issues wasn't mentioned as a dislike, which bothers the majority of us especially local. As a small island, our infrastructure really can't take too many people in one apt which is causing drainage problems, not withstanding its causing power cuts esp in the summer months. Sorry these issues weren't brought up, badly needed. Great video otherwise, thanks guys. ❤
Great Podcast Alex and Tom.Keep them coming🌷❤️
I loved watching this. Pls continue 😊
Would love to ask this man what his stance is on covid now.. considering he was blocking anyone skeptical (and right).
This was very informative! Thanks!
Keep it up 💪💪💪 ♥️
We had lots of issues with Malta transport when on Holliday…I’m loving hear you both
❤️
can you interview an American that came from the U.S.? would like to know about foreign income such as pensions etc are they taxable under the resident visa program.
I think the bureaucracy is there to keep more people employed. It is a country of no resources, so there's no men or women starting billion dollar companies employing many thousands of people.
Your countries capital has a countryside, forests, lakes and rivers, Malta is lots of built-up areas with patchworks of highly cultivated enclosed fields. I could live in Malta provided I could escape to Sicily for some months every six months.
There is bureaucracy everywhere. Try moving to the Cayman Islands.
Good job bro 💖👍💖👍👍
amazing Interview :D
Dear alex i want the nbr of tom or any contact because i talk to him with serious issue
Hi good afternoon dear Alex
Please upload a vedeo about taxi driver earnings in malta. Please🙏
Good idea❤️
Great 1st podcast, keep it up please.
On the negative sides about Malta guys you forgot to mention the cleanliness and especially the garbage collecting system, where all of us we have to leave the trash bags in front of our home. 🥹 Meaning there are no certain pick-up points, no containers. Anyone can leave it just anywhere, and the narrow pavements are pilled up.
This is so hard to control or even to fine the people, especially a tourist country like Malta.
Come on, Alex, even Skopje, your city is much more organised in this case and you consider it as lower standard of living.
As a tourist, when I go abroad, the first thing i notice is the cleanliness of the country. If you see it clean it means the government is more caring about the environment, it's more organised, the country's people are more respectful and carefull if you see it dirty you think all the opposite.
Please speak up about this.🥹
One more time great first podcast, the studio looks amazing.
Alex how do I find out what jobs I can get as an American?
What do you mean by as an American?
English language teacher but you won't make much money.
Fellow American who moved here, hmu and I'll give you a run down.
This man hates malta and I don't know why he's still here .
Second comment 😂😂
❤️❤️❤️
Don't know why he was so rude about uk, anyway good riddance to him !
In my opinion, overall and "current politics" aside, UK 🇬🇧 is best country in the world.
I still regret leaving 😢.
Cheers 👍🇲🇹❤️🇪🇺❤️🇬🇧
Nothing rude about the UK. I didn't like it there, so moved on. Others like the UK and stay. As it should be.
Tom, I'm Maltese but when you said you don't like our politicians, you didn't offend me! Both sides are ... 💩
In every country is the same🤣
So much waffling and stupid questions unrelated to the video
Great podcast very informative very real been here now 2 weeks yes ive been sick but looking forward to enjoying being here again and hoping to come across with you Alex when im 100%💕 Tom your approach and opinions are very realistic of how it is here in Malta looking forward to seeing blue skys wheres it hiding 🥹🤔😵💫
I don't get it why moan about Malta as an expat when you did not want to stay in the country they came from if it was so perfect 😂
Very bad comment. You can be in malta and complaint because here is not perfect, there is a lot of issues
@@alinnemontecarlo7811 well rather than complain does not matter where you come from there will always be problematic issues be positive and get on with life 🤣
How funny Tom, I'm from Bedford not far from Luton. Bedford has gone down so much the last 2 years, in terms of the town. Luton always had a bad reputation but is improving more than Bedford! Anyhow, we are moving in July to Malta and can't wait now! It's May and still drizzly and cloudy here! I do find the expat pages very useful but I agree many negative comments.
do you have a point of contact in Malta that can answer tax question in relation to the united states? Thanks!!!
See you soon Tom, we have that beer I promised you
Which group you guys talking about 👀
I've been following you since you made videos in the house with the brown floor. How much quality you brought
I first visited Malta 1993. We were told not to drink the tap water without boiling it first, Is this still the case ? I hope to be visiting this autumn or next spring.
Drinking tap water is safe but maybe not that good as taste. Most locals drink bottled water, but only cos of preference.
let's freaking goo alex !!
🤩🤩❤️🫡
First like❤
❤️
I have posted this on another of Alex's postings. This is meant to be helpful, not at all critical. I think Alex's videos are interesting, entertaining and informative. if you are going to be an expat, anywhere, plan, plan, plan and then plan again. If you don't it will go wrong. I have lived in Asia as an expat for the past 8 years, but that followed at least 10 years of detailed planning and many visits. I like Malta very much. My family have holidayed there for many years, since my introduction to the place as a Military man in 1970, but I would never have considered moving there permanently. It is small, restrictive , it can be culturally challenging and it is very expensive. It also feels like living in one massive, badly planned built up area. It needs detail study and knowledge before committing to living there. .
Alex,
I’m from the Isle of Man , UK and growing up there , all my school friend’s couldn’t wait to leave the island.
I think it’s living in a confined area.
Out of my 7 best friend’s only one lives there now.
I still love island life and would be happy with living in Malta!
nice! but way too short for a guest like Tom. He probably could have shared a story or two related to the Island! share favorite places. what he would do if he had just a week or even a weekend on the Island. where he takes his guests who probably visit him from time to time? second visit on the show is very appreciated 🙂
Tom the apologist...Alex the narcissistic..lovely combination.
Thank you 🤣❤️couldnt agree more
At least they gave their opinions openly showing their faces and names, and not hiding behind “user’’( Alex will know what this word mean if read on our language 😅) so it suit you Mr/Ms User 😅
@@marinaborg2637 Back in your basement..child
spilt the tea! Alex's profession is revealed! He is in beauty industry as a MUA!
Keep going, nice podcast ❤
Interesting and educating podcast I must say @Alexin malta....Thanks
