I’ve homeschooled for a decade long before the pandemic. The education system has been failing for decades, the pandemic exposed some of it. Not even a fraction of what’s there to be uncovered. Parents are tired of the woke ideologies being shoved down our kids throats amongst many many other issues like staffing shortages, drug issues in schools, safety concerns, no rigor in academia. Many reports/studies show that homeschooled children consistently out perform their peers in sat/act testing and post pandemic are not an average of 3 grade levels behind as has been reported. Homeschooling is the biggest blessing.

The “woke” ideologies are being taught to kids all around other developed nations. It’s insane how in the U.S you can just straight up tell them you don’t agree what the teacher is teaching!! Absolutely no respect at all!. That’s WHY there’s a teacher shortage.

I have been so impressed that I put all my lectures on RUclips as a free resource. Mainly Western civilization and the history of the Middle East.

I’m almost seventy. I worked my whole life and never thought for one minute of teaching my own kids at home. If I was young today I would abandon any career plans and stay home and teach my kids there. The day has come where the one place we send our kids to be safe and taken good care of has become their nightmare. They wouldn’t ever step foot in a classroom. Ever. This has gotten out of control all over the world. When will the madness end?

I was a public school teacher who quit my job and now homeschool my children. They are not sheltered or isolated. They visit friends often, are involved in activities and are out in the world every day. They’re far more social than I ever was as a public school child. The idea that homeschool is isolating and damaging to academics is ridiculously outdated.

Homeschooling has been the biggest blessing for my family! I taught for 14 years, always giving my best to other children, and coming home and having nothing left in the “tank” for my own kids. It was heartbreaking. Now I get to give my children all of my time and efforts and my family relationships and my children’s academics have benefited greatly! We also have WAY more time to socialize with friends and family now because we call the shots! It always makes me chuckle when I see people fret over socialization of homeschoolers. The ignorance is astounding. Ha. So thankful for this life!

I first started the homeschooling journey in October 2019.
Since then, I have given state tests to make sure my children were on track. Guess what? They have consistently scored ABOVE grade level.
Also, they are involved in a homeschool bowling league, field trips, etc.
They are NOT sheltered. They can hold conversations out in everyday life with different people from different backgrounds. We’ve been complimented multiple times by strangers for how well mannered, funny, and “normal” our children are. Yes, people have said “normal” because they expected our kids to keep their heads down and not speak because apparently that was their perception of homeschoolers. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've homeschooled for 17 years. Our oldest son is graduating from college in 3 weeks with a double major. Our 2nd son is a junior in college, and on the Dean's list. Our 3rd son will be going to college full-time in the fall and entering as a sophomore after completing highschool and a dual credit program. I have 3 more at home that I will school until graduation. They have all been involved in extra curricular activities and have many friends. Homeschooling has been the biggest blessing to our family and I don't regret a second of the time I've had with each of them, and they don't regret it either. They all plan to homeschool their own children when the time comes.

I homeschool my 12 year old with autism since fall 2020. The public school system is a disaster for special education. Between standardized testing, being with family more, time freedom, control over what and when my kids are introduced to sensitive topics, being the FIRST VOICE (I know not the only), sibling relationships, interest lead learning opportunities…. The pros very much outweigh the cons here. I live in an area with a highly acclaimed public school in comparison to other areas. People move here to the suburbs for this district. I still choose to homeschool. I have several administration and counselor level friends and there are plenty of pitfalls despite it being a sought after area for schools.

I am one of those parents who did not return to public school. My daughter had kind and capable teachers, but I increasingly saw things I was not okay compromising. Class sizes ever expanding, screens for entertainment and learning throughout the day, uncertainty of content and quality of curriculum were the main concerns. But also, the important and central role our family’s Christian faith is and should also be a focal point in our education. Now that I am knowledgeable of curriculum and teaching philosophy I can’t in good conscience send my children to public school. The education they are receiving is rich and strengthening our family unit. I am ultimately responsible for raising my children and education is an extension of that task. In this way, I am grateful for the closing of schools as it forced us to examine the important question of what is the goal education and to whose responsibility does it belong.

@@gustavus0013We had good teachers but teachers are at the mercy of the school district. The school makes curriculum changes for the sake of change not necessarily because it’s a better choice. Teachers could be doing a great job! But if they have 30-40 students at a time and mediocre curriculum an unfair burden is placed on the teachers. Ultimately it is the parents job to care for and educate their children, not the school. Parents may delegate that job to the school but it’s their ultimate responsibility to ensure their children are learning. In this country, I have the liberty and freedom to educate my children and they are receiving a high level education that is tailored to their needs and interests. It is a great lifestyle for our family.

Add major increase in bulling, as well and schools unwilling to acknowledge kids harmed by bullies...kids bullies but don't forget also teacher bullies. Lack of social cohesiveness and kids aren't making friends like in the past. Another issue not touched is vaping in schools and vape have drugs in them and second hand exposure indoors within the air system that pumps through the schools increasing aggression, inability to concentrate, fighting, bulling. Kids vape in their hoodies in class and the teachers don't even know what is going on.

Well done segment. Ive homeschooled our 4 boys for over 15 years. We wanted a firm foundation for our boys to learn how they learned best. The governments schools tend to lean towards a cookie cutter structure and take away from the individual learning styles. When I noticed our local schools only had one recess for kindergarteners and gym class once per week and a teacher said my son was on the ADHD spectrum and was aloof in class as a kindergartener; we were out, I quickly realized that he needed outdoor time and not to be expected to sit still for 8 hours with little movement in the day. That was only one reason, but homeschool gives the opportunity to slow down and to explore in ways the public schools can not. Our culture doesn't want our kids at home with us but it can be done.

We are a very close knit family because of Homeschooling, they are solid in their faith, and are able to grow in their strengths and weaknesses because of the one of one time they are able to get.

I've also seen a huge surge in secular homeschoolers for the same reason. They feel like they can offer a much better education than the public schools. And the pandemic-related converts were so disenchanted with the online learning they felt they could do better and then stayed because they watched their children thrive in the homeschooling environment. The word is spreading of their success and others are joining them.

Where is your evidence that homeschooled people “cannot function”? Because everything I’m reading shows that homeschoolers are far more successful than public school graduates.. I’m far more “socially awkward” as a public school graduate than my homeschooled kids. In fact, I would argue that homeschooled children experience “the real world” more accurately than public schoolers who sit in a room with the same people their same exact age for 12+ years as opposed to homeschoolers who are out in the community with a variety of people and ages in multiple settings. I’m also around adults who were homeschooled and I can tell you they definitely have a better head on their shoulders than most in this day in age 😂
Define the term sheltered.. does it mean to keep my kids safe and guarantee that they receive THE TRUTH and LOGIC from me instead of lies from the lawless lunatics? If so, yes I’m a big fan of sheltering my kids seeing as it’s my soul purpose to raise and protect them mentally, spiritually, and physically.

I’m perfectly aware that I am not capable of giving my daughter a well-rounded education on my own. That’s why I would never homeschool her. It would deprive her of the education and social experience that she needs at this stage of her life. I’m extremely involved in every aspect of her life and education but I don’t need to be her *only* teacher.
I was raised in a church that had a lot of homeschooled kids in it. Many, MANY of those kids did not go on to college, or still live with their parents well into their 30’s. They simply did not develop the skills to become independent adults. My daughter is welcome to live with us as long as she wants to but I want her to have as many opportunities as possible to be capable and independent so she can have the life she chooses one day.
Props to the families of the homeschooled kids who get educations above and beyond the public school system though.

99% of homeschooled students receive an astoundingly better education than public schooled students. This is one of the reasons Ivy League schools have departments dedicated to the recruitment of homeschooled students. Universities are growing weary of remediating their courses for the government-educated masses. It is so unfortunate that so many American students are being shortchanged in their education.
