  • Airline: Air Serbia
    Plane: A330-200
    Seat: 23K
    Flight # JU500
    Ever wonder what it's like to fly long haul with Air Serbia in economy? For awhile this airline was known for having only one long haul route, but recently the Serbian flag carrier has been expanding its network and adding additional trans-continental services with their growing fleet of Airbus A330-200s. So, I decided to book a flight between Belgrade (BEG0 and New York (JFK) with them to experience what Air Serbia has to offer economy passengers on these longer flights.

    I trust them more than Ryanair. A lot of pilots from Serbia fly for WizzAir and their landings are always nice and smooth. It's JAT school legacy 👍

      Ryanair has not lost a single passenger since it began. Rough landings maybe, chaotic flights maybe , terrible crowd of drunk UK stag dos yes but when it comes to flight safety they are one of the safest in the world.

Air Serbia was fantastic in the beginning years, some situations led to another and they were forced to generally downgrade the service on intra-European routes. Before they had nice sandwiches and beverages for free and now they only offer that chips you had and a bottle of water. Still better than nothing, but it is kind of weird to see that now if you want a sandwich you have to pay for it! I am glad though that the long haul experience is still very good. Service is light years ahead of the service aboard US airlines. The only issues I have with them is their in flight entertainment system is very laggy, and there aren’t that many options on it. If they could improve the hardware on their refresh there really would be no reason to fly to that part of Europe with anyone else.

    Thinking about going to Belgrade next year. My father who is 90 is from a small town 1.5 hours to the north. My one big concern with this carrier is they have 2 A330 planes. What happens when the departing Chicago plane has issues and is grounded. They can't exactly just send another one like a larger carrier could. That worries me some.

    AirSerbia (Serbia) is same as JatAirways (Yugoslavian Air & Transport Airways), including airport, just changed names and upgraded over time (and still is), is there since 1927 and world known for least flight accidents. There was one accident in 1950 when Croatian Ustasha terrorists activated a bomb on plane, but still a flight attendant Vesna Vulovic survived a free fall from 10km/33.000ft, holding still a Guinness book of records.
    Back in Yugoslav times, there were direct flights also to Cleveland and Toronto and as far as Melbourne in Australia, with stops. Things changed during 90's, but things are getting back regarding routes and prices.
    One thing JAT/AirSerbia is not famous of is new models of comfy jet planes. It's mostly well maintained old good Falkner's, DC's and 737s. And advantage is that Serbian pilots are great pilots and those aircraft have less automatic and computer things, so when you bump up and down in your seat, you are much safer than if auto-pilot is smoothing it in turbulence.
    Anyway, besides AirSerbia, I could recommend same school of piloting and mechanic maintenance perfection with BelAvia, Aeroflot and AirBaltic (there was one in your video!). BelAvia takes the lead for prices, best service, cleanest planes ever, great food, nicest staff and on-minute timings. BelAvia is daughter of Aeroflot, so it inherited everything from them, just Aeroflot has much more to cover. AirBaltic also inherited all standards from Aeroflot, but they cover mostly north and Scandinavian regions - they are full EU super-class (in economy) airline that I bow to, but you can't get that salty beef perchdtta like you can get in AirSerbia, just some vegan ewww's, so meals suck, but everything else is great.

    • @Helskrim
      @Helskrim Год назад +2

      I can confirm this is true as a Serbian. I've flown couple of times with Air Serbia as well as other smaller charter airlines and one time I asked stewardess why do they always do this and the answer is quite simple, apparently many passengers are more comfortable by not being able to see the sky or clouds as this gives them anxiety, however airline doesn't want to cause problems to other passengers who seat at aisle to make a switch to window seats so what they do is simply roll down all covers and call it a day.
