    Allan Cooke had the best backflip x-up one footers in the game. I believe the footage of Colin Winkelman pulling the go cart flip is in the Rooftop video, "Samurai: back for the first time".

    There willl be our generation that will never turn from BMX and it’s our job to bring up the next generation to know their roots and everything that is going on today comes from BMX and to never let it die out .

    This was an excellent podcast!
    Talking about BMX versus mountain bikes, I can understand where fudge is coming from. But as someone who rides both, especially as you get older you should understand there’s a time and place for each one. I like to hit gaps on my full suspension mountain bike, but I still love to ride street on my BMX! Like what Alan said, tricks are for kids lol I don’t know if I’m learning anything new on my BMX “Kidding“.. but on my mountain bike just hitting jumps or building new trails feels like I’m in a different part of heaven and I don’t have to do a trick to feel good riding with guys that are way above my skill level.

    It is interesting to hear Alan say Specialized look after their employees. I can imagine that due to the cost of their products but I can also remember at one stage they let off many employees world wide. Happy to hear he has a decent job at the big " S ".

    • @fallenshallrise
      @fallenshallrise 4 месяца назад +3

      Love the MTB rant. Downhill mountain bikes are fun to ride but the big corporate bike industry just likes to latch on to any bike culture and wring the cash out of it. They love to take the style and tricks of BMX but don't respect BMX or it's history (and don't want to sell $900 chromoly BMX bikes that last when they can make $2,300 aluminum "DMX" bikes that break in a year or two). I watched a video a few years ago of a mountain bike box jump contest where they claimed this guy did the "first ever no-handed 360 backflip on two wheels", forgetting that Mirra did it already 11 or 12 years before.

    Regarding the MTB vs BMX discussion, my confusion (as someone who does not ride an MTB) is that it seems like so much of what is popular in that sport is clearly influenced by BMX, down to MTBers riding in parks and hitting famous street spots. I have no issue with that, generally. It's cool to see BMX influence other types of bike riding. The sour taste I get, and it sounds like Ryan has it too, comes from my perception of a lack of acknowledgement of BMX's influence on MTB. In many cases, it seems like MTB has appropriated portions of BMX culture and mainstreamed it as if it was there's to begin with. As a BMXer, that doesn't always feel good. I imagine many skaters feel the same way about BMXers too, though. But it's important to remember that it's really just about the stoke. Regardless of the apparatus - be it a skateboard, surfboard, BMX, MTB, scooter, snowboard, dirt bike, whatever - the quest for stoke is what we're all essentially doing. The vessel is somewhat arbitrary, unless you have a financial stake in one vessel outperforming another. But I for one own many of those vessels and enjoy all of them. If I could change anything, it would be to see more MTBers picking up a BMX every now and then. Why ride a concrete bowl on a full suspension MTB? Do it on a brakeless BMX and see what that's all about.Then go roast some single track trails on the MTB. And then go snowboarding the next weekend. Support the stoke wherever you find it, and respect the contributions of other action sports while you do it.

    We don't have a skatepark, pump track, nothing. I have my local trails which NO ONE help dig at and just destroy. But FDR is 6 miles away but I don't have a car and there's no easy way to ride your bike there. I wish we had anything fun, if mountain biking helped my town get a pump track cool... but Im not into the whole MTN Bike thing. I don't get it, but whatever.

    i wouldn't be worried about mtb takeover in freestyle. we both got absolutely rekt by scooters. kids choose scooter now. and no matter what they ride chances of them riding after 16-18 is zero. is what i see. no lifers just quiters. we lose to car industry xD
