Pretty far behind on this video, 2 years! Here's the thing, I wasn't considering a stream deck as I don't stream. Then I saw another video about using this as a button box. At the time of this reply, This is a $200 device. Button boxes are often specialized to the game, or genre of game you are planning to play and often cost about $100 more than that. If you're lucky you can find 'em at a similar price but again, it's usually going to be for a specific game or type of sim game. In my mind, $200 is a steal for a device that will mold itself to whatever game OR program I'm looking to use it for. Thank you for the concise video. It may be 2 years old at this point, but it's still relevant, and seeing you cover the topic of using it as a Button Box (and especially because I seem to have an unhealthy relationship with sim type games) it really helped to solidify this as a solid purchase for me.
The XL is a beast for Flight sim. I have used it in the past. I would also recommend Icon City icons. He has custom button icons for Flight sim and other sim games.
As someone who lives dreams and also uses it for productivity I chipped out and bought the 15th key and regret it I also have some eye site issues And have had no problem with seeing the keys yes I will say I should have probably bought the bigger one even though you can put stuff in folders and make it work having the 32 keys would make things a little easier
Only heard about this yesterday, in relation to music production. Of course, there are all sorts of workflow scenarios these can be used for, but it occurred to me, you could use one of these to simplify PC use for elderly relatives - assigning all those basic key combinations we take for granted to easy to understand buttons.
@@HelpCloud thanx from what iv gathered the XL is pretty much the same apart from more buttons and some magnets to hold it onto the stand. The MKII seems just to be in line with the XL and Mini and since they already had the original i guess a name change was needed to differentiate the new 15 key version. 👍
My SD XL is faded going back to when I bought it about 3 years ago. Works perfectly, otherwise. In the video, you can tell the one he has is faded as well. Compare the bottom-left button with the red dot at 0:10 (button on the unit) and 3:02 (button on his PC monitor with the config. app). The red dot XL button is really faded vs. how it looks on his PC screen.
@creativegreatsvisuals That's what I have read, yes. I don't actually have one to verify, but people who have had both have mentioned that the big one is faded and my XL looks exactly like the comparison in my previous post. I will say though, I love the thing and use it daily. I am so used to it that it doesn't bother me any more.
Please can I just say thanks for ur vid x! Scott Hanselman has ask me to start using my ' OBS' and I am thinking about ur deck?! Only to impress Mr Hanselman? 😝Your stream deck looks cool fella / I am from the UK/GB 🇬🇧 Yes! Thank you for the vid 👍!

Great overview! I'm going to get the XL. I'm a hardcore Flight Simulator user and this will be a great addition to use!

Hmmm... now that you mentioned that (2 years ago) I might use this for gaming as well.

That is a great idea! These have become more than just something for streaming.
Very informative videos with very little side chatter. Subscribed. Your scenes look great too. What camera are you using?
Great info -- thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Have you setup with OBS?
I can tell you set up with obs is fairly easy I actually have a 15 key right now and I'm waiting for a 32 key
Can you use this to record RUclips vids like add effects and sounds/clips while editing them?
best direct to the point video 🎉
I use voicemod a crap ton so this is a must for me
How resource hungry is the stream deck xl with the host computer?
Mine is setup with pretty complex buttons, uses 110mb and 0 CPU usage.
Is there any difference between the Xl and the MKII apart from the size/amount of buttons? Thanx!
Not that I know or have read about. A buddy of mine purchased the MKII and loves it!

Do you still need a capture card??
How is this so expensive :(
I’m not sure if it’s worth it, it’s extremely expensive
They are expensive, they are crazy versatile. You may want to opt for the 15 key. A bit cheaper and still offers a good amount of keys.
Thankx. Keep up the grind
How were the led lights on this xl version ? Bright or faded ?

@@ja-is2lf so the size below it may be better then

I just ordered it literally just to use it as a soundboard lol. I don’t even stream
Great use case for it. Tons of plugins and things that work well. I use it mainly as a button box for sim games.
@@HelpCloud is there a cost for the button box plug-in?
great vid love it!
Good review +sub
Much appreciated!

Stream deck works very well with OBS and would be a great addition!
