There's a good reason Michael Schenker is my all time favorite guitarist. When he says that he doesn't even know what he just played it's because he's so into it, he literally loses himself. There are players who play faster, or different in some way that make people compare, but art is art. It is 100% interpretive. Michaels playing for me is like Beethoven, or Wagner. Classic, fluid, but mostly BEAUTIFUL beyond words. If it touches your soul it's great. If it TORCHES your soul it's Michael.
@@MrMalambing Hey, Thanks Man, I meant every word of it. By now I have seen him close to 90 times!! The last time I saw him was at The Whiskey on Sunset in Hollywood. It was literally the same week that Paul Raymond had passed away, so before the band started playing, Michael spoke with us. Btw, my Woman was with me and we were 5 feet away from him. He mentioned Ted McKenna who had died a few months earlier, and Paul, and then he spoke about how he didn't get some credits on Lovedrive because of Rudolf (it's actually because Michael was still signed to Chrysalis the label that UFO was on and the Scorpions were on another label), and then they played Holiday to start the show. I bought a concert tee shirt with the album cover on the front for The Michael Schenker Fest Resurrection. It was April 2019. I'm hoping to see him LIVE again next year if he comes to LA. Peace Man. ✌️
Micheal schenker solos send chills up my spine so melodically ferocious but gentle to the listener His phrasing of melodic patterns along with his incredible vibrato are what make him a guitar icon
He copies nobody, they copy him. Greatest rock guitar player ever. He's so melodic in his style of playing. The very first time I had heard him he was only 15 years old on the Scorpions Lonesome Crow album. I was blown away at how accomplished he was at such a young age
I was lucky enough to be backstage the night Strangers was recorded, Friday, October 13th, 1978. I've probably seen Michael about 75 times since 1975. EVERY SINGLE SHOW, about 2-3 songs into it, I get this overwhelming sense of joy, want to start dancing (I don't dance!), and just get swept away in his playing. He's such a genius as a player. ENJOY SCHENKER LOUD!
I'm a fan of many many guitar players but this guy has just got something that's on another level. The choices of the notes that he chooses and the cords in the way that where you think is going to go one way and he ends up in another place,,it's very unorthodox and very intriguing. Michael Schenker just got something special going on
I really enjoyed this - thanks for uploading. Malmsteen, Vai and Satriani may have the techniques, but for me no one beats Schenker's lead solos for taste and melody. When he is on his game, he is still my favourite guitar player.
Michael masters an incredible technique, the difference between him and the other guys is that he doesn't waste it in useless showoff, he perfectly knows how to balance it ! He works for the good of the whole song, not only his solos parts. And that's how a genius mind thinks and works..
His accent at the time was such a strange blend of British and German. One of the few rock guitarists who never fails to send shivers right up my spine
I remember hearing Michael's "into the arena" when I was 12. my older brother brought home his Solo album and I was an instant MSG fan....Those Damn Germans, they do everything so well...
One of the all time greatest lead guitar players. Very underated. I've learned a ton from him. I just him on the Michael Schenker fest tour in 2018. He still has it.
I’ve been a fan of MS since 1981 and at this stage of his life he was just out of this world. It still makes me cold now listening to him play lost horizons. So fortunate to have seen him numerous times in this era.
His playing influenced me on so many levels. Michael Schenker, the answer to the question "Can one guitarplayer be melodic, fast and expressive at the same time?"
So interesting to hear Schenker 'after' hearing all the various players he's influenced. It makes everyone's style seem so much more derivative now that I see how similar they are to him. His lead style is so melodically conducive, it's no wonder he's been approached by everyone from the Stones to Ozzy.
Touch, Tone, & Taste, Michael has all 3 and that's what separates the Great ones from everyone else. Also took what he learned from Leslie West and Jimmy Page and made it his own and expanded on it
He was apparently taught to speak English "on location", by Phil Mogg, Pete Way, and Andy Parker, so he has a kind of North London / German hybrid accent!
Dimebag’s Guitar I don’t think he is under rated at all. Most people with any clue about guitar rate him highly. I guess you maybe mean the main stream audience who constantly just say ‘Eric Clapton’
,met Michael schenker on his cross country bus trip to promote thank you in America he said lots of good guitarists use pedals and effects racks but his effects are his fingers simply amazing
Yes, I heard him say that there too but thought I wonder why he's says/ thinks that because we can definitely hear the delay effect FOH. It's clearly to be heard on every live album too. i.e. it's a part of his live sound.
An outstanding player. I've met him, and his voice did not sound like it does in this video. Seen him live many times, with UFO and various M.S.G. and Michael Schenker lineups, including the very first MSG show. I was lucky to meet Cozy at that one. Gary Barden was a revelation. There's no doubt Michael is one of the greatest rock guitar players the world has ever seen.
I am a, not young, bassist since mid eighties, but recently I try to learn some guitar too. Michael Schenker is, for me, one of the greatest guitar player in Hard Rock. Him, and Glenn Tipton for Heavy Metal! Michael is really an iconic figure, with the Flying V, my favorite guitar shape. Greetings from Italy!

He is SO spot on ! Just pick up your guitar and work with it! You have to find what works for you and you aint gonna find that in any instructional stuff. Just do it!
Saw him few times in London and what a master mister Shenker is love the man the story behind him and well he does not lesten to music for 45 years so all that music he creates its his own .....
Even for those unfamiliar with Michael... a Signature (or featured) Flying V would have raised a whole new interest in this Gibson design itself and perhaps made it more of a popular, mainstream model than had ever been (or will be). From late 70's on they probobly would have sold many more V's in healthy numbers. Oh well.
Wow, what an amazing demonstration of true genius! Michael, Jimmy Page, Toni Iommi, Neil Young...the top tier of all time. Several other greats, and creative greats like the Beatles, but Michael...take me back to UFO Live 1977.
Does anybody know what happened to those old Black/White Flying V’s? Since he plays Dean nowadays. But man, Michael Schenker is fucking insane. Crazy how much he progressed over his whole career. One of my biggest influence on guitar. Thanks Mr. Schenker ! 🎸
From what I’ve heard, he once had a crazy withdrawal and decided to destroy many of his belongings including his Gibsons. Not sure what exactly he was using before being endorsed by Dean, but brands like Fender and Gibson don’t really give endorsements very easily unless your name guarantees them to make a load of customers and money.

Michael Schenker curious fact: he is responsible for 38% of Europe's hair gel importation and been using the same leather jacket since the 80's to avoid killing of new cows. Helping the economy and the environment.
Schenker is the only Flying V player I know who routinely bends the neck to simulate a vibrato bar's effects. He must have been pretty rough on his V's that their necks sometimes broke. He mentioned he did this to drop the pitch in a Guitar Player magazine interview (circa 1981), and the editor even added a reminder to readers that bending the neck can cause the neck to snap off.
