Michael schenker is one of the greatest guitarist of all time ever !!! I do not think he ever got the true recognition that he really deserved because he is truly no doubt one of the best of all time ever !!!
@@michaelstephen819 Maybe amongst guitarists/musicians. He hasn't achieved huge mainstream fame- you ask regular public and not that many people have heard of him.
One of my favorite guitarists of all time. Without Michael Schenker I would've never played guitar. Very underrated, over looked etc. Just saw him in Chicago and he was a monster. So good, precise and on point.
The LEGENDARY Michael Schenker! I still think that first solo MSG album (masterpiece) is one of the greatest moments in rock history! Such incredible, emotive, heartfelt, and technical guitar playing, the likes of which has placed Michael in the upper echelon of great players!
I was there for this interview... and amazed at how clean every single note resonated. Michael has an incredibly precise right and left hand technique and is blessed with a magic touch which is instantaneously recognizable. Off camera he did play some really intricate and fast runs but on record he prefers to stick to his (unique) melodic approach... as a result, he's quite underrated imho.
Michel MDJAY that’s what I love about him...he only plays what fits the song It’s a tendency we can all fall into...we spend so much time practicing clever or speedy runs we find ourselves trying to force those into our live arts without regard to the tune!
He has inspired generations of guitarists. Those of us that were in that first generation around 1975-76 were absolutely blown away by him. We tortured ourselves trying to learn his licks. You have to understand there was NOBODY like him back then. NOBODY. EVH didn't become known until 4 yrs later. IMO Schenker was foundational for what became modern metal.
Spot on! I was one of that generation, discovered Schenker in 1975 after I accidentally saw the last minute or so of a UFO live performance on German TV. There was this guy with an open shirt (or no shirt at all), long blond hair, never saw his face, Flying V between his legs playing like I never heard before. I was absolutely flabbergasted, next day I went out and bought Force It. 2 years later I bought my first Gibson 1975 Flying V 🤘😎🤘
I was also in that generation. Learned many solos from Force It and Phenomenon. Difficult stuff played with beauty articulation and intention. His intention was so strong and a very young guy as well. Incredible.
The great Michael Schenker - "Strangers In The Night" is one of the alltime greatest live albums... what is amazing is that he sounds so great and he barely ever uses his pinky on leads.
@@nowayout8773 🤣😂🤣 me neither, until some guitar store mentioned a blue signature Gibson Flying V a couple of months ago, I was like who TF is Richie Faulkner?
Just saw Michael for the 3rd time but this time with all of his singers, best show i have ever been to, met him about 25 years ago took a picture with him, we both had hair back then lol.
Not sure if that was the tour but I saw him back in the mid 90s in Cleveland at the Odeon’s when UFO was making a comeback with the “walk on water” tour. It was a great concert with all the UFO OG’s. That is a very good album btw. I was very young then barely 20 years old. Most in the crowd was in their 40s to 50s. Mike was jamming the black n white V with freaking black tape on it. I think it was a quick fix solution at the time 😂😆
I’ve always been a Michael schenker fan he has forgotten more than most so called guitar gods will ever learn he can wipe all the asses of so called current guitarists.....he is and always will be awesome.
I learned to play some of his riffs by playing along to him, but Captain Nemo is still way out of my league thought. Nice to hear him playing it slowly for us mortals
Great cool video! Michael certainly one of my guitar heroes for sure. What devices/pedals did he use for this video, I see a little amp. Cute. Thank you for posting this.
Grew up being a fan of Schenker since UFO. He is the reason I bought a Gibson Flying V. He is awesome. How about the tabs for Captain Nemo? Also, which Boss pedals was he using.
Chris Davies If you pause at 4:26, he’s using a Boss Chromatic Tuner into a Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff, into a Boss Digital Delay. Then into the mini Marshall
Chris Davies , Congrats and going out and actually buying a Gibson V back in the probably early 80's? I wanted to..really did.. but in the interest of remaining not looking like a total clone..(I was more than any other Schenker clone around regardless), I opted for, get this.. a freakin Dean" Z" (blue burst) (guitars afire in LB..1982.. about 900 total with case).a couple months later took it on a cross country flight , without a flight case, in cargo..and when got to JFK.. guitar case was opened and falling out of the case on the conveyor.. (I was 19 at the time btw).. anyway.. didn't warp it that trip .but the flight back sure did.. Still played it 12+ hours a day focusing on all Schenker..even using 16 speed to figure out some intricate little things..I had already developed a really good ear training learning to play piano & drums by ear from age 11-12...onward.. Anyway.. so yes. Always regretted not just going out and buying a Gibson V. But I was in a band (Foreplay) playing drums..and lots of gigs..a few local Schenker "clones" alreadyon the scene already.. one played a V..the whole Schenker stance between the legs .(he looked nothing like Schenker tho..(something way after those years I realized I actually totally did look like M. Schenker as well.. so to this day I know I'm the premiere Schenker "protege";); the other guitarist on the local scene played a Gibson Les Paul.. (interestingly became Foreplay's guitarist around 1984-85.. and plays on our debut album "Foreplay/ First Licks" I'm playing drums on it.. check it out here on RUclips. There are several songs.mi have the album in pristine condition still, and want to convert/upload the entire (10 song) album, but with better quality audio..) Jimmy V.
Just got the 2018 Gibson Flying V. Gibson are calling it the High Class Heavy Metal V, it's awesome (once you set it up correctly) www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2018/USA/Flying-V-2018.aspx
Few guitarists hold their pick between the tips of the thumb and index finger. Usually you can play a lot faster if you hold the pick between the middle of you index finger and the thumb. His speed comes from precise alternate picking (up and down). He rarely uses his pinky just like the old style blues guitarists. Schenker does it his way and that makes him special.
One of the greatest! The melodic phrasing is out of this world. Does anyone know that the black "m&m" stompbox is (at 4:26)? Is it a booster? Thanks in advanced!

i did pick up where he uses finger number one to do alot of bends or accents and ive also noticed bends with second finger also and not even generic third finger -----------
I just realized I’ve been playing rock bottom slightly wrong all this time. I’ve been hammering and pulling the d to e to d instead of picking the d and e and then pulling off to the d

Totally agree. Fantastic players all round on that album.
That Capt Nemo lick is insane when he’s playing it full volume with his band
Just another little example of his genius

Thanks Michael. You always give me a jump start. You help me get in touch with the German side of me.
Schenker is amazing. Seen him four times, the latest about April 2018, was the best. Was doing stuff I did not see the first three times.

Michael is one of my favorites along with Ritchie Blackmore & Gary Moore !!!!!
I count myself fortunate to have seen all three live and met them all, too.
