So many good tips here!! 1.The adobe palette is GREAT 2. Copying a screenshot instead of sending it to procreate (I might be dumb but YESSS) 3. Same percentage of shadows for the paper cutouts (changing it is fine, but having it as a rule of thumb makes it easier!) 4. MOVING THE SHADOWS. Immensely satisfying! If I can add another quick tip! To change colours in real time, it's easy to just hit wand -> hue and saturation ! It's always helped me, and just changing the colours slightly towards cooler/warmer is good for experimenting : ) Love this content : )
It's so frustrating to see what many artists achieve with Procreate and me wanting to get to that level, yet I'm over here barely grasping how to work with layering. 🤦🏽♂️ Though, to be fair, I recently just got me an iPad and Procreate December of 2019. So, gotta practice... 🤷🏽♂️😅
It'll take you 6months to get familiar and a year to be able to achieve pretty impressive work and another 6 month's to do what he is doing. Currently! I work from home now so I get time to draw whenever I go on break now!
You're getting yourself in the gap. Don't be expecting your results to be just like the pros when your skill cannot compliment that expectations. Be happy with what you can do. Keep drawing and practicing. It may not be now, but later in the future you can be great. Just keep doing what you love.
This channel and Rishi Draws was the sole reason I grinded and saved money to buy an iPad 12.9, an Apple pencil, the Paperlike screen protector, and a Logitech Combo Touch as my digital drawing set-up. Everything is finally delivered. Wish me luck and thanks for the inspo!!
Thank you so very much. Elementary teacher here, stuck at home and getting ready to teach online. I have an ipad and the pencil, but never really had the time to sit down and learn how to use it properly.
i have had procreate for nearly 2 years and have never made a single thing in it, i get annoyed and retreat back to affinity designer, this tutorial has finally got me through it lol thanks brad.
Ok grabbing a color palette and keeping it off to the side to reference and pull color from is so genius. 😭 I went and bought three of your courses because of this one tip, since I figured you would have more. Work smarter not harder, love it.
You are amazing. I was searching for a shadow technique in procreate but none were good. In this tutorial I saw the shadows and watched it thinking you will speak about it. You are genius!
Big salute to you Brad for foregoing sponsorship to support fellow creatives 👏🏼 Keep up the great work, I love your updates and thanks to you I’m buying a Huion Kamvas Pro 16” to further my fine art studies for my degree.
I think you just saved my life. I’m an art teacher locked out of my classroom by coronavirus. Can’t wait to get back and share this with my kids. ✌️❤️🤪
Why wait? My grandsons teacher has zoom meetings with the kids. He loves it! You would be doing the parents a favor by giving the kids something fun to do!
I’ve seen this done a few different ways and trying to find the easiest way to remember how to do it, but you have by far, made this the easiest! Thank you!
Just subbed cause I’m missing out on A LOT of procreate features, like this app costs 11€ and the stuff you can do with it it’s amazing. I’ve been using photoshop for YEARS, more than 10 years, it’s going to take me a little bit of time to get used to procreate, but I feel it’s way better than any other painting app.
Little tip that I learned from another RUclipsr if you double tap near black, and white it will auto select pure white for you & black, it helped me a lot but you might know this already and some people might not! Your welcome!! Love the tutorial very simplistic and easy!
Great video!!!! Some shortcuts I also found: - choosing pure white/black in the disc. If you double tap on the white/black area it’ll give you pure white/black. - swipe with 2 fingers left to right on a layer and it’ll alpha lock it.
Thank you brad . I have been sifting through the multitude of app ‘s.related to drawing with frustration, most don’t have help sections and leave you on your own to figure it out.. I’ve learned so much just watching your 12 min video than all the app’s put together. Please keep up the good work . It really make things easier when deciding on what and how to do in what ever subject I’m looking to get help on with peoples like you . Your newest fan Steve.
Thanks for the tutorial. I followed along for most of it but wasn’t able to select and clear to see the text underneath. Gosh procreate is harder to use then I thought, but yours looks great.
This is exactly what I needed to learn. I've been creating some graphics for a video series by stop-motion animating real paper... Which is nice and all but good to have a potentially more efficient and versatile digital alternative, at least to supplement the real stuff going forward
I actually followed your instructions and created something with it. My second piece on procreate, couldn't be happier. Thank you for this small but very useful project idea.
Don’t worry they stalk me too... it’s scary I hope they don’t watch me on the toilet that’s my quiet place where people don’t just walk in and are like hey what’s up!!!
9:56 Just a quick tip: You can easily select pure white and pure black on circle colour picker as well, just double tap with your pen around white/black area and it will snap automatically to white or black!
Very labor intensive and I think that we can move a lot faster with just traditional painting. But is highly technical and the prowess is impressively on display. I think with my paintings, I’m more of an oil guy. Thanks
You're such an amazing teacher! I just started your Udemy class for drawing on Procreate (as a total beginner) this weekend and was able to follow this tutorial and complete my own piece! Thought it would take me so much longer to learn the basics but you do a great job at simplifying and I love your pacing and explanations! Thank you!!
Learned a bunch of gestures that Ipad never mentioned to me.. Also spent the last 2 days drawing something to use this tutorial with.. My intention wasn't to make a paper effect but instead i basically used it like an emboss tool and added some depth on a water texture practice.
How do you drag the colour without changing it to previous colour? I recently bought the app and I'm gonna need to adjust to it from Sketchbook; which I very much love.
woow you are the zombie guy from udemy im watching your zombie house affinity course at the moment and you are a star in what you do , a well deserved subscribe :D
Omg this is so dope!! There’s really no other way to say it!! This video not only taught me the cut paper effect but also taught me how to shadow which I was struggling with. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the video. Everything was good until 10:14 min. The procreate keeps breaking after I select the first word - so I cannot cut the white part inside letters, it deletes all white in a layer, not lettters. And the program shuts off after I press layers after selecting the word. I am not sure why it does that.
Looks like I make it work, so we need to select the word when it is hidden, and when you see - Hidden layer The currently selected layer is hidden....- press open layer. It is the only trick to stop the procreate from breaking
I would personally use some type of multiply layer to the shadows to help them fit in with the colors. If the blobs were more pastel, black might not be the most fitting of a color to use for the shadows
You can grab a perfect black or white or even the subject color in the Disc menu. You do this by double tapping in the big circle in the middle and where you tap twice will be automatic perfected in your brush. It a quick way to get perfect colors in Procreate.
Am i the only one who looked at the thumbnail like, "i can do that" and then was really proud when he did it the way you were thinking! Its just like "i has brain cells"
This was an awesome video!! Thank you for making it! So much less complicated than I though, haha. I have question though, aside from the paper effect... How do you choose the best DPI to work with depending on your canvas size?
If it hasn’t already been mentioned ... you can get get pure white and pure black from the color wheel by simply double tapping near the white or the black. This double tap works all the way around the wheel, North, East, South, and West with four more positions between those for a total of 8 points on the very outer edge of the wheel. You can also double tap near the center for an absolute center position.
@10:40 when he does select and then the background fills the text, my procreate won’t do that. The clear button clears everything including the text. Is there a basic step I should know but is left out of the video or maybe procreate has a bug. Idk but I’m going a little crazy so I’ll take any suggestions, thanks! And wonderful tutorial I’m just slow
i'n not the best with following things online. usually there is a step or two that gets me all messed up. not this time. thanks so much. i made my text say 'I CAN DO ANYTHING'! this was VERY COOL.
Hey Brad! New iPad pro 2020 has been released these days! It would be interesting to listen your opinion about it or see your review on it from artist perspective.
Even the least cool shortcut of this vid got me like whaaat... yea i got extremely surprised when he took a screenshot by just swiping up form the left part of the screen... amazing, i loved this video and learned a lot of incredibly useful stuff, thank you a lot man
Hey Brad! Nice tutorial, but you know that you can pick 100% black from the circle color picker with double tap? Same works with 50% (grey) and pure white, just double tap near what you want. ;)
I smiled like a child when you moved the shadows. Maaaaaagic! Do it again! Do it again!

*I can smile so hard sometimes my cheeks will cover half of my eyes and I look like a insane maniac*
Oh and I asked :>
I did too!
The way the whole piece changed just by moving the shadows 🤯
It was an immediate improvement- so cool 😍
I KNOW
It was so SATISFYING!
Me too, my mouth dropped 😳
I litteraly stop the video and go back to see the before and after 🤯
Man making the shadow go at an angle really makes it look so much better. great job.
When you moved all the shadows to a different direction my brain was like whaaa-
I thought the same exact thing!
Same! Mind explosion..
Our brains will automatically think-add light coming from legt side above. That’s why
You will be more amazed when you do it yourself. My little 4 year old was like wow
Saaaame!
9:57 Doubletab at the circle in the white direction and it will be a perfect white ;-) works with each direction
Clemens Längle thank you so much

@zia qamar, welp
