Zee-Von. Lee Ho Fuk's restaurant, a real London eatery, kept Beef Chow Mein on the menu for decades because of this song. Lon Chaney, Jr's real first name was Creighton. Warren Zee-Von was a great Singer, Musician, Songwriter who came out of Los Angeles in the 1970's with this song and "Lawyers, Guns and Money", and a few others, and took the country by storm for a few years. He passed a few years ago from a form of cancer, so RIP Warren, and thanks for the music. We remember you.
He's has a very eclectic catalog. From funny to eyebrow raising to pure poetry. He was an amazing artist.
I love Warren Zevon! "Lawyers, Guns and Money" is a great song too.
Definitely this one!
You should definitely do more: "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" , "Excitable Boy", "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead".
Ood ole nineteen seventy six
Later kid rock kinda made his version of it to but the Tune was actually from LYNNYRD SKYNYRD!
Excitable Boy is just one hell of an album all around. "Lawyers, Guns and Money" has been my favorite since childhood. (Though I gotta say, I love the line delivery of 'little old lady got mutilated late last night.')
It's hard not to love this tune.
We all had this record back in the day! He's worth a deeper dive for sure ❤
Warren made his last appearance on David Letterman before he died and I loved his answer to Dave's question of what he would tell everyone. At this point the public and all knew he was terminal. To the question he said Yeah, Enjoy every Sandwich.
"He's the hairy handed gent who ran amok in Kent" Love it. Hit Poor Poor Pitiful Me and Carmalita...😎😎Z Von
Excitable Boy is an AMAZING album worthy of review...so much greatness....
What a fun song. We loved this song as kids; heck, I still love it.
From what I understand, Lynyrd Skynyrd signed off on his use of the riff from "Sweet Home Alabama" for this one. Zevon went to high school in my town for a couple of years. He also wrote "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", a song that was a hit for Linda Ronstadt in 1978.
Fun goes hand in hand with funny. We need more of both everywhere.
Enjoy Every Sandwich. IYKYK
Linda Ronstadt did a killer version of his Poor Poor Pitiful Me . Lucky enough to see him in concert twice.
Always loved Warren Zevon. His lyrics, candid humor & good sound all do the part in making his pieces pretty great. 'Lawyers, Guns & Money' and 'Play it all Night Long', are good ones as well. Thank you for sharing this one.
... And his hair was PERFECT! 😎💯
This song crosses my mind sometimes when I have a shitty day at work... just because I wanna say "WHAHOOOOO!!!!" in the middle of the shift. 😎💯🤣
Fun Biz! Watching this one with you. Thanks! Happy Halloween! Yeah, Warren was cracking up. Cool stuff. :)
I knew you would like this song Biz! It’s a fun song that came out in 1978 I was 17 at the time!
Fun fact for you Biz" David Letterman, Paul Shaffer and Warron Vevon were very close long time friends.
The three of them and their families used to vacation together (maybe Lake George) every year for 5-6 days.
When Warren was dying of cancer, he did his last show on the Tonight show with Dave and Paul.
After he died Dave did a memorial show that will bring tears to your eyes if you get to see it.
Think you mean Paul Shaffer?
I think I saw that tribute show. That was with Billie Bob Thornton right? Thornton talked with Dave too, before they played the song I think, and was extremely touching and entertaining talking about Zevon.
@@Nana_Reads Yeah, oops. thanks for the correction.
Huh, I'd like to meet his tailor - I saw a werewolf drinkin' a piña colada at Trader Vic's; his hair was perfect. That Werewolve is smooth
and big-time pimpin'. Handmade suits, drinkin', running the streets, eating Chinese Food - Sounds good to me!
Great Song .Went To London To See Loo Ho Fook. Its A real place I took a picture of me in front of the restaurant ! RIP Warren
it's closed now. I was just there in September looking for the building.
Yay!! On of my favorites!!! It's Warren ZeVON
Check out” My shit’s Fucked up”
Amazing song
Warren Zevon was a super talented and intelligent dude. This is one of his funnier songs, but his discography is cool because he could just as easily do super serious emotional songs as he could funnier or dark songs.
A long time favourite. Musically great, but so witty. Nothing better to howl along with.
Damm Biz, yer lighting thins up! BTW It's "Zeevon"
This has one of the best lines ever written : "Little old lady got mutilated late last night" The perfect alliteration that even if you just say or read it sings. It just sings.
I have read that he was either recording or playing live for an extended period in London at one time, and that upon leaving the studio or the venues late at night he would encounter these sort of fashionably dressed young men prowling around the night life districts. Hence the references to the tailor and the perfect hair...
The movie you are referring to is 1981's #American Werewolf in London starring David Naughton {as the hairy miscreant} and Griffin Dunne {his BFF and first victim out in the middle of NO WHERE backpacking across a moon lit foggy night in England}. Check it out. Its a fun flick.
“Master Musicians” 🔥❤️🔥 this song got heavy airplay back in the day !
Such a great song. Very nostalgic it reminds me of my dad ❤❤❤
I love when he sings "his was perfect "
Love Warren Zevon! 🙂
Warren Zevon is deserving of a deeper dive. Warren is an Oak.
Long rabbit hole to go down.
You might want to read his biography, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead-the life and times of Warren Zevon. Written by his ex-wife Crystal at his request when he knew he was dying. He told her to cover everything, good, bad and ugly so she did. The book provides context for many of his songs.
That was such a fun song, really big when it first came out.
AH MEMORIES...LOVE IT..
It's been on my Halloween list for decades
haha excellent song! Peace and Love from Canada
Another banger nice, thanks for the reaction
Love Zevon! One of my favorites is “Tenderness on the block”
Lawyers, Guns and money
Lon Chaney and Lon Chaney Jr were old horror movie stars…. played The Werewolf -
Henry Hull played the wolfman in werewolf of London (1935), Lon Cheney Jr. played the Wolfman in the 1941 film,
lol, Biz, I insisted on this played at my wedding
Someone said it earlier, but you’re thinking of American Werewolf in London.
There is actually an old, 1940's or so, movie called "The Werewolf of London", it's mmm okay. i have it on DVD. There is also a movie called "The She-Wolf of London".
More Zevon! Next do “Lawyers Guns and Money”
Rolland the Headless Thompson Gunner.... Good to see you smile! Seen too many angry ones of late. There was a movie with Tom Cruise playing a high priced
bartender who lip syncs this song while doing some fancy things with his ice shakers. When he runs his hands through his hair when the lyric hit "his hair was perfect" you believed him. "Cocktail " I believe was the flick..
Me, Biz and Warren Zevon feeling it!
This song always reminds me of Tom Cruise in The Color of Money, singing that line, "And his hair was perfect".
Thanks, Biz -- (BTW. it's Warren Zeeevon...)... lol such a greater performer.. some of his intro was ripped off by others, who shall remain nameless (oh, yeah Kid Rock & his "All summer long" which not only stole Warren's stuff, but also "Sweet Home Alabama" ) Thanks! (p.s. "Send Lawyers, Guns & Money" - brilliant)
One banger after another tonight I see. 😁
they're not in the video (obviously) but Mick Fleetwood & John McVie happen to be the rhythm section on this track.
Lawyers, Guns and Money.
Awesome! World class artist.
I really don't know wtf the inspiration was, but I effin love this song. Definitely fun. Songs can just be about goofy shit when they're awesome.
Basically, Phil Everly had watched _Werewolf of London_ on TV, and suggested it to Zevon, as an idea for a song. Zevon and his band kicked the idea around for a couple of years, and then wrote it in about 15 minutes. 😄
Now to do the David Lindley version of the song!
He wrote a tune before he passed away from cancer called "My Shit's Fucked Up".
Check it out.
He's great.
Your should take a drive into his body of work. He was a highly regarded singer songwriter among the greats of his generation.
I forgot about this song! Thanks ❤
Warren Zevon is my favorite artist. This song is fun, but he did some wonderful stuff. Check out Desperadoes Under the Eaves or Keep Me in Your Heart. He deserves so much more love than he gets.
My husband and I went to see this movie when it came out. We both were glad we smoked pot. Every time this was played we would laugh hysterically. 😂
a bit silly. and a bit jaunty. and a bit cheeky.
i've loved it for decades.
Excitable boy is his mellow song.
Always a fun one 😅
A great tune
best halloween song ever BY FAR.
Oh yeah that was fun.😅
"Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner"
This song always reminds me of the song "Sweet home Alabama"... same chord progression??
It's very similar. In fact, in the Kid Rock song, "All Summer Long", he samples both songs, for the piano parts.
Michael Shrieve on drums.
It’s considered a joke song. But the werewolves part is metaphor.
❤
☮️💙💙💙🔥🐺
I know right? Whats up London?
Oh, yes, thats a movie. Predators, dang.
💖WARREN! 💖 Now do ROLAND THE HEADLESS THOMPSON GUNNER.
Somebody needs to stop those werewolves of London!
Or, find out where they get their impeccable style!
Flamin' Groovies & The Grateful Dead have covered this
It's kind of a joke song, from a kind of joke album, but it just kind of rocks.
grandpa,pissed,his,pants,again,,,and,he,dont,give,a,damn
Love this....
But his name is pronounced Zee Von
The Grateful Dead do this phenomenally.
59 takes with the wrecking crew of LA studio fame. Take two is what your hearing. Blew the album budget.
You must do "Roland the Headless Gunner" and "Mohammed's Radio"
Zeevon
Think 1980s stock brokers.
You 4 get movie American werewolf
An American Werewolf in London?
According to the songwriter, it was the 1935 Werewolf in London film, that inspired this. That, and Sweet Home Alabama, lol....
It's pronounced Zee-Von
🤣Werewolves of KFC?😂
Zevon is pronounced "Zee-von."
His name is pronounce Z-von... Z just like the letter.
Someone from the UK would read that as "Zed-Von", just like the letter zed. Just some trivia for ya there.
@@Tijuanabill Quoting Butch from Pulp Fiction, "Zed's Dead." 😉
@@albertsmith9315 😂😂🤣🤣
A song you hear every year on Halloween sense it's release back in the day. Your right though it is a fun song.
Its pronounced,, zeevon
Pronounce, "Zee-Von>"
He left us way too soon, sadly
