Warren Zevon had one of the best senses of humor in rock, and made an entire career out of writing and recording quirky offbeat songs. He had a huge cult following (including me) and was highly respected in the music industry. He and David Letterman were very good friends. Whenever Letterman's usual bandleader Paul Shaffer was on vacation, Warren would sit in for him. He and David played very well off each other. When he was dying of mesothelieoma, he made his last appearance on the show about a year before he died. The entire country watched in tears as the two old friends said goodbye to each other one last time.

Lol, Warren Zevon performed this on Midnight Special, loved it!, so happy, happy you checked this, isn't it catchy!, Warren was like Randy Newman(who made Short People, and the theme from Monk tv series), he did fun songs, and its funny, coincidental that this song came out few years before the actual American Werewolf in London movie, and they didn't put it in the movie, least I don't remember it being in there, but we thought it was funny, and they always played it round Halloween you know on radio, that part about "little old lady getting mauled, and I love the part where he says he'd like to meet his "taylor", you know like he's a vicious killer but he's well dressed!, Rip Warren, I can't believe its been almost 20 years, it just doesn't seem so. Glad you enjoyed it, so glad,
Keep going young person, Godspeed, Peace ✌

Love love love Zevon. Saw him live for the first time in 1980 and quite a few more times over the years, his live shows were great. Very underrated songwriter, the guy could write a novel in three minutes. The restaurant he refers to was Lee Ho Fook's in London. Chinese restaurant, like eating in a warehouse. I don't think it's still there. The song is about a really well-dressed ladies' man, a werewolf preying on little old ladies. Many people only know Warren for “Werewolves of London” but he has so much more to offer. “Lawyers, Guns, and Money” is great, “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” is one of his best works. “Excitable Boy” and “Poor Poor Pitiful Me” are real rockers. “Nighttime in the Switching Yard” is awesome. “My Shits Fucked Up” is very good. But perhaps his finest work was “Keep Me in Your Heart” which he recorded as a goodbye while knowing he was dying. There was a lot more this man did than what most people remember, and when he left us he left a larger void in the music industry than many realized.

Warren Zevon was a very talented musician, song writer and performer. This was sort of a joke about a Chinese Restaurant that was actually in Soho. The mention of "His hair was perfect" was a nod to his friend Jackson Brown. Warren always had the best musicians playing with him. As far as those who actually understand music, music theory, etc. it was said that Warren could have taught the old classical writers and musicans a thing or two. Some of his other songs are worth checking out. Many musicans have covered his songs and this one was actually a big hit in the US. Check out Poor, Poor Pitiful me. Excitable boy (Live 1982 Capital Theatre). Pronounced Zee Von

The song began as a joke by Phil Everly (of The Everly Brothers) to Zevon in 1975, over two years before the recording sessions for . Everly had watched a television broadcast of the 1935 film and "suggested to Zevon that he adapt the title for a song and dance craze." Zevon, Marinell and Wachtel played with the idea and wrote the song in about 15 minutes, all contributing lyrics that were transcribed by Zevon's then-wife Crystal. However, none of them took the song seriously.
