It dosen't matter because you can't choose the office you will work for after graduating Quantico. After graduation you will be sent to a random office. There are even FBI hq's on other continents so you can't know where you will end up.
Assuming you meant a year not month. The problem is you progress from GS 10-13 in around 3 years which pays significantly more than what you started at. On today's payscale, in NC where I live, a GS 13 with LEAP(+25%) makes around $125k a year. That's a pretty healthy salary for only a few years on the job.

@@JimBobe a bit incorrect, I had the very very amazing opportunity to attend a teen academy where we went into the headquarters and got to ask questions regarding working at different branches of the FBI. First off, every year about 20% of all new applicants are accepted into the FBI and there’s a “new lineup” every year. Secondly it’s mainly about ability, most people are forced to retire at 50 but can choose to get extensions and work a couple more years. The thing is , once you reach around 57 you are no longer physically able to work in the agency atleast as an agent. However there is a criminal Justice branch and a CISA branch which will accept you despite your older age. I think their pay is based on their efforts or completing certain tasks. I think when they're in, they get luxury because they're apart of the upper class (usually) and don't start working until there's an actual job. It's like freelancing. You're welcome 😉
Why can’t congress have an age limit like this 😢
The reason they don't have this is because we get to vote for who we want, and it seems we choose the older people.

Quick question. would doing something like journalism or joining a branch of the military be a good precursor for becoming an FBI agent after college?
The military would. Not journalism.
