I personally love when shows or movies have no empathetic characters. It makes the stories more interesting when there isn't a typical emotional core to fall on. It makes the movies feel much more complex because it's not a simple "good vs evil" kind of thing.

Also, there is a shot in Requiem for a Dream that is taken from Perfect Blue!

Kevin Greutert did an amazing job making John Kramer more of a sympathetic anti-hero instead of a sadistic villain.
The gore in it doesn't disappoint, either.
When Evil Lurks is my favorite horror film of the year.
It's not afraid to "go there" and the possession plot line was really unique.
And it doesn't rely on possession tropes like head-spinning, either.

I actually watched Rose Red when it first came out because I remember seeing the ads and the story intrigue me enough to give it a try. I am glad I did. I still don't like horror as a rule, but this is one of the few exceptions. Julian Sands' char was my fav. At the time I was majoring in English for college because I loved writing stories (still enjoy writing, but it's a hobby), and this miniseries inspired me to come up with my own 'haunted house' story. I started it, never finished it lol. But yeah given the chance I would get this on DVD. I actually think this miniseries is a good intro for people who are curious about horror because it's pretty tame for horror and as you said, it is a 'comfort' one.
Being the anime nut that I am, of course I've heard of Perfect Blue, never wanted to see it though since I knew it was horror related. I remember first hearing about it in the 2000s, but it wasn't until the 2010s did I find out what actually happened. One of my fav anime channels did a countdown of one of the Most Disturbing Scenes in Anime, and this movie made the list due to the big twist at the end.
I had to read The Fall of the House of Usher in High School because my English Teacher wanted to cover Poe (we also covered the Raven briefly) and yeah, we covered it during October. Compared to other stories I've had to read throughout school, this was one of the better ones, but it's not a fav. This series you watched doesn't sound like the original story at all lol. Maybe it has elements in it and the series is like a love-letter to Poe's works.

It's about a vice detective who's wife is murdered by a feral gang who worship satan, they also kidnap his daughter, he then goes about trying to rescue her with the only girl who has ever escaped from the gangs clutches It's a great movie and I would like to know your thoughts on it. Perfect Blue is one of my all time fave movies, glad you liked it!! You might like Satoshi Kon's other films, Paprika is pretty trippy, too. Unfortunately, he passed away, so I think he only has four films. Also, I definitely think people that aren't into anime should give Perfect Blue a try, it's more like a Hitchcock movie than a typical anime, but the genre is actually pretty wide... more than most people think, it's a matter of finding what type of anime you like best. Maybe explore actual horror anime?

I think you should review Five Nights at Freddy's because you would go in blind as a non fan, and it would be an interesting review. If you have peacock anyways. Also can you review It's a Wonderful Knife when it debuts on Shudder?

5 Nights at freddies feels like your kinda film in the PG 13 love for paranormal horror! Nothing incredible, I don't like those games but it's a solid 6/10. (I rate movies harshly).

I love Perfect Blue!!! All of that director's work is incredible. Perfect Blue is the only one I would describe as horror but if you liked the trippy/confusing elements of it I would recommend at least checking out Paprika! (And if you want a not horror at all, cozy, comfy, alternative Christmas movie, Tokyo Godfathers!)

I have been consumed by grad school and ridiculous trash animes as a wind down for the night. I did see "A Haunting in Venice", was not as impressed as with the previous ones, but still good enough. I always recommend Another and Erased as horror anime series. SO good. Also this seasons Dark Gathering is truly horrifying and disturbing. It's great.

Gotta say, I'm not a HUGE horror fan, although I'm usually excited by the A24 releases, and I'll always see the next Scream...but after checking out a few horror review channels (minus the watch-along channels) this is by far my favorite. I just jive with your personality, delivery, and opinions. Thanks for your work!!!

Best thing I watched would be a tie between Fall of the House of Usher (so devilishly dark and funny) and Talk to Me (I didn't like the ending however)

The five nights at freddy's movie is i mean great but not at the same time, Matthew lillard doesn't really get that much time in the movie like pretty much 2 full scenes and thats it, i wish it was rated R cuz the lore is disturbingly fucked up, and I wanted more gore and blood from it, but its an alright movie its just people who yk are on the side of liking it and the other people who don't, need to understand that the movie was in development hell, it had so many scripts, it was originally gonna be canceled but well obviously it came back and is making alot of money, their planning on making 3 movies which is ok i just hope they make the robots more terrifying and scary and give mathew lillard more time to shine since he'll be in the next 2 movies that'll be following the games
But still like i said this movie was in development hell and normally when stuff like this is in that situation it won't turn out so good or people will hate it its really rare for something that is in development hell that people will like, this movie was originally gonna be in 2015 i think but it never was made until 2023

In October I started the Goosebumps series, and it has been pretty decent because I wasn't expecting much coming from Disney/hulu. I also saw The Wrath of Becky, and it was an ok follow up to Becky. I also started the new season of American Horror Story and have been liking it so far but now have to wait for new episodes until sometime next year, just like Chucky season 3. I also saw Talk to me and The Last Voyage of the Demeter.

So funny. I just watched House of Wax the other day. Forgot how awful it is. Lol. But awful in a fun way.
I managed to watch 64 horror-adjacent things (shows, documentaries, movies) in October this year. One year I hit 100. I literally never left my house. Lol

As someone who never gravitates towards horror, you always make me more interested in some of the movies coming out. I went to see FNAF and while the script could've used a bit of tweaking, it was entertaining to me. It also wasn't super scary by any means, which is why I was able to watch it without becoming too overwhelmed. The animatronics were amazing on their own, so I would watch it for that specifically. Thanks for always giving me recommendations for those who don't want a ton of horror but just a little. Lol :)
