Judging by the map this aircraft was going at least Mach 10.

20 minutes later he found an airport in Illinois that was VFR and landed.

This is why you should file IFR every time there is any weather out there. You can alway cancel and go VFR if the weather cooperates.

Clearly, there was a lack of confidence on the part of the controller that the pilot remained in VFR conditions during his climb on top. Sure, the pilot MAY have been capable of performing IFR flight, but that's not what he filed. Looks to me he just wanted the VFR to get the hell out of Houston without the IFR delay he knew he'd encounter and fudged somewhat on the flight conditions he was encountering on his climb to 10,500.

    I didn't hear any "argument".

From the way he said “I’m out” sounds to me like he went thru a deck vfr. Not cool.

You can't fool Center controllers; they know where the clouds are. They know where you are.

Why did the animation put him into Mexico at supersonic speeds? This is Texas. You realize it's big, right? Bigger than any other contiguous US state, right? Flying from Houston to Laughlin AFB in that twinkie would definitely take him at least 2 hours, not 2 minutes. :)
