Yep: single pilot, night LIFR is a challenge. I did it a lot out of Teterboro in the '80s and the approach and tower controllers were and are terrific.
Absolute pleasure to listen to this whole exchange. Pilot and all of the controllers were professional, helpful, and situationally aware throughout. Doesn't get any better than that. Wonder if that pilot is looking at a GPS upgrade now 🤣
Excellent flight. That's how it should be professional. IFR you cannot land due to minimums, then go into the air, evaluate repeating or going to the alternative with better visibility. Always enough fuel for any detour. Calm and finally on land. I really enjoyed a well-organized flight and good arrival. Thank you very much for the video.
Sounded like he had two radios, but wasn't aware he could ask the controller to switch off to get ATIS because monitoring both at the same time was too loud.
Pilot knew that. Keith is a very well known pilot and does a lot of training online for Pilots Workshop and he did a great job. Perfect comms and asked for what he needed and got that and then helped them out with the speed.

"You're five miles from SNAFU". And heading for FUBAR.
Thank you so much.

Single pilot, LIFR, in a slippery single engine piston. That is pretty tough duty, gotta say.
Exactly
Oh god this brings back nighmares!... Been there done that too many times!

New York approach….best in the bizz
Great team
1:45 The intersection the controller mentions is not part of the approach.

He was as busy as a one-armed paper hanger.
Interesting accent.
Kind of UA1688 to chirp up.
“No way you get the ATIS, WHY!😂”
The controller is super professional 👍
Don’t you need two radios to be IFR legal? Maybe one was INOP but that should have been reported, no?

Obviously strongly recommended to have two but no, only one is required
