After scanning through all of the comments below all I saw was most everyone congratulating ATC BUT NO ONE EVEN NOTICED THAT THE CESSNA WAS "NOT" A 152?????? The C-152 is a TWO place aircraft mainly used for training In fact the Cessna in the thumbnail is actually a Cessna 180, a 4 place aircraft with a Continental engine O-470 producing 225 to 230 horsepower depending on the year it was made as opposed to the Cessna 152 having a Lycoming O-235 engine producing115 horsepower. Reason for this information is the poster did NOT do his dew diligence in locating the correct aircraft. First thing that is quite obvious is the C-180 has a tail wheel and NOT a nose wheel and the C-152 has a NOSE wheel both are very visible in the photos. Bottom line, make sure your story is right and most important make sure your PHOTOS match that you have in writing. BTW, I have well over 12,800 hours of flying time and taught people how to fly retired airline pilot and also a aircraft mechanic. When it comes to aviation, there is not much I have NOT DONE ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The crew was undoubtedly having a bad day to say the least but this does not make a lot of sense to me as I am wondering if the aircraft's radar was actually inoperative ? Otherwise the inability to use the radar properly sounds to me like a huge training problem & a big reason why this crew dug a huge hole for themselves (and passengers) that they almost didn't escape.

Well on the crosswind i was in a solid cloud so i went on guages i had the localizer already set for Eagle Creek when i got to decision height no visiual so go around and that is when i called Indy for help 3 approaches later landed in Columbus Indiana after 2 hours and 20 minutes of solid IFR flying without an instrument rating i had no problem kissing the ground in front of the tower got a call from Indy they could not believe i was not an IFR rated!! No doubt if i had non flying passengers i would not be here! Because i went into the graveyard spiral and recovered twice ! Looking at back seat for charts!

Too bad JFK couldn't eject. The DEMOCRATS killed JFK via the CIA and the mafia. LBJ had a lead role. Great interview about the crime of the century. You might want to cut and paste this to save it. Absolutely AWESOME new interview with Robert Groden! I respect Robert Groden very much, but (forgive me) he seems to refuse to even consider the eye-witness testimony and confession of CIA Mercenary James Files. I believe James was indeed the shooter on the grassy knoll and that he only fired one shot. So many folks seem to want to just perpetuate the CIA cover question..."Did Lee Harvey Oswald have a co-conspirator". Clearly, Oswald was the non-shooter PATSY. I personally approached Robert Groden at the JFK Conference Dinner in Dallas on Saturday evening, 18 November 2023, and spoke with him about James Files. Robert Groden wasn't even interested in interviewing James Files; I was astonished at the time. Many people, especially those who work in the 6th Floor Museum, are just supporting the official Warren Commission story about Lee Harvey Oswald. Lee Harvey Oswald was NOT a shooter in Dealey Plaza; Lee was set up by the CIA. If you want to add another chapter to your book, here it is for free. This account is directly from Johnny Roselli (the Chicago Mafia made-man in Dealey Plaza who was running the assassination team) to Robert Clayton Buick during hundred's of hours of private conversation while they were in prison together. There were at least four shooters and seven shots fired. The four shooters were Marshall Caifano, Charles Nicoletti, James Files, and Malcolm "Mac" Wallace. The first shot was from Chicago Mafia Made-man Marshall Joseph Caifano; he fired two shots from the front from the overpass. Caifano's first shot hit the JFK limo windshield near the rearview mirror and the second shot hit JFK in the throat. Charles Nicoletti was the shooter from the second floor of the DalTex Building from under the fire escape; Johnny Roselli was in the room with Charles. Eugene Hale Brading (Building owner Hunt's adopted son) was guarding the locked office door. There was a spotter on the fire escape just above the second story window. Charles "Chuck" (aka Typewriter) Nicoletti shot JFK in the back of the head. 28-year veteran CIA Mercenary James Files WAS the back-up shooter on the grassy knoll from behind the picket fence. Malcolm "Mac" Wallace was shooting at Governor Connally from the school book depository; however, he thought Senator Ralph Yarborough was going to be riding with President Kennedy. LBJ wanted Senator Ralph Yarborough dead except he failed to switch the passengers at Love Field. JFK and LBJ fought over the reverse passenger arrangement at the airport. Chicago Mafia Hitman Gary Marlowe killed Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit with a .38 revolver...NOT Lee Harvey Oswald...the shells from a semi-auto pistol had been planted as a distraction. Revolvers don't leave brass behind. Gary Marlowe brought the .38 revolver to James Files after the assassination at his motel in Mesquite, Texas. The CIA used the Chicago Mafia to kill JFK. Secret Service Chauffer Bill Greer knew JFK was going to be assassinated. Bill Greer slowed at the umbrella man to assist the assassins to kill both JFK and Ralph Yarborough (actually Connally). The spliced Zapruder Film is extremely important; however, I believe James Files confession and eye-witness testimony is the most important evidence. No weapons used in the assassination were 6.5mm...they were .30-06, .221 Remington Fireball, and 7.65mm Mauser. Thanks to Robert Groden for many years of dedication trying to expose the truth. It obviously was NOT Lee Harvey Oswald. The CIA killed President Allende, Marilyn Monroe, President Kennedy (American Democracy), witnesses of the JFK assassination (David Ferrie & Dorothy Kilgallen), MLK Jr, RFK, Che Guevara, Jimmy Hoffa, Sam Giancana, Johnny Roselli, Charles Nicoletti, Mary Jo Kopechne (favor for Ted), and many others. They missed Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough. The three Mafia wise guys who killed Marilyn Monroe were Charles "Typewriter" Nicoletti, Louie "Lips" Mercer, and another man who is still alive. Jimmy Hoffa's body was burned up in the incinerator at the garbage dump in Detroit shortly after he was killed. A joint CIA/Mafia team killed Jimmy Hoffa. David Ferrie was murdered by the CIA in his living room. David Ferrie was knocked out by a blow to the head with a Colt 1911 when he answered his front door. The assassin then jammed a sharp metal nailfile up through the roof of his mouth into his brain...CIA tradecraft. His body was left on the living room floor. Someone moved his body into his bed under the covers to mask the murder site. CIA Mercenary Pilot David Ferrie's autopsy was performed by Orleans Parish Coroner Nicholas Chetta and a Pathologist named Ronald A. Welsh. In their cover-up, Chetta and Welsh concluded that there was no evidence of suicide or murder, and that David Ferrie died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage due to a congenital intracranial berry aneurysm that had ruptured at the base of his brain. Imagine that!! John 8:32 One of the primary reasons for the public assassination of President John F. Kennedy by the CIA in Dallas on November 22, 1963, was to stop him from delivering a speech that was planned at The Dallas Trade Mart for 1 p.m. This is the speech that President Kennedy would have given at the Trade Mart in Dallas if he had not been assassinated in Dealey Plaza. What follows is a transcript of what would have likely been President Kennedy’s most historic speech: My fellow Americans…People of the world! Today we set forth on a journey into a new era. One age, the childhood of mankind is ending, and another age is about to begin. The journey of which I speak, is full of unknowable challenges, but I believe that all of our yesterdays, all of the struggles of the past have uniquely prepared our generation to prevail. Citizens of this Earth we are not alone. God in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to populate His universe with other beings, intelligent creatures such as ourselves. How can I state this with such authority? In the year 1947, our military forces recovered from the drying New Mexico desert the remains of an aircraft of unknown origin. Science soon determined that this vehicle came from the far reaches of space. Since that time our government has made contact with the creators of this spacecraft. Although this news may sound fantastic, and indeed terrifying, I ask you not to greet it with undue fear or pessimism; I assure you as your president that these beings mean us no harm. Rather they promise to help our nation overcome the common enemies of all mankind, tyranny, poverty, disease, and war. We have determined that they are not foes, but friends. Together with them we can create a better world. I cannot tell you that there will not be any stumbling or missteps along the road ahead, but I believe that we have found the true destiny of the people of this great land to lead the world into a glorious future. In the coming days, weeks, and months, you will learn more about these visitors, why they are here, and why our leaders have kept their presence a secret from you for so long. I ask you to look to the future not with timidity but with courage, because we can achieve in our time the ancient vision of peace on earth and prosperity for all humankind. God bless you! President John F. Kennedy United States of America November 22, 1963

If the low-wing Piper was coming from the north to join a right downwind, he’d need to descend to pattern altitude well before trying to join the pattern on a left downwind for 19., just for visibility purposes. Or he’d be better off doing a midfield overhead and left descending teardrop to join a right downwind at pattern altitude. If I was coming from the south in that downwind and heard someone else joining the downwind, I’d have my head on a swivel. It seems weird to clear a plane that’s 10 miles north and above pattern altitude to join an opposing downwind 12 miles away, while others are on that downwind or turning onto it already. Seems safer to have him report a checkpoint or position nearing downwind, with some guidance on when to descent to pattern altitude. There was just too much trust and assumptions here, and not great SA on the part of those two pilots. Stuff happens, I guess, but often avoidable.

Seeing the crash scene was truly disturbing not only as a Deputy, but also pilot aircraft mechanic and shop owner. This guy killed his family due to gotta get there he was going to a Surprise Christmas party in Palm Springs..................Surprise..........were dead.

To get a better range you don’t lower flaps. Flaps create lift and drag, for landing, they don’t extend the glide. Why would you drop tanks to stay with him? He just wanted an excuse to throw away $200,000 tanks. Who are these pilots, not much experience? Your engine is falling? It’s on fire. Your engine is failing, more like it.

I have flown at most of the high volume and mixed use airports in the country and can easily say that the controllers at FRG are amazing and do an incredible job of herding cats. Kudos to you guys, and the beer is always on me when I see you.

Extremely good air traffic control. What went wrong?

Very, very far from the rudest controller I've heard. Perhaps not as focused on the right things as he should have been, but I completely understand his (mutedly expressed) frustration as he tried to clarify the pilot's situation, the nature of his emergency, and what he wanted. From the controller's perspective, he's trying to work out if he needs to clear the pattern, hold ground movements and scramble emergency services, and whether he needs to hand off his other traffic to another controller to manage the emergency. I'm a bit surprised not to hear, "When able, please give souls on board and fuel remaining."

Both dudes were classmates of mine at USAFA and Thomas was a teammate as well. First rate both of them. Really cool picture in Air Force magazine of George Bush with his arms around the shoulders of both aviators.
