Someone should make one of those domino memes with the first small domino reading "Some guy on RUclips tries to beat the bunker on The Outlaws without losing a unit." and the last big domino reading "StarCraft 2 modding experiences explosion of inovation.".
I honestly love the Herc decision from the modder, having them morph for free means that the Herc, an otherwise meme unit, is super cheap at 75 minerals, even cheaper than the marine equivalent, meaning they make excellent cannon fodder, and since they yolo into the enemy lines with grapple, they will get targeted and tank extremely well. Also gives you a way to throw away excess SCVs without just killing them. An amazing design choice that makes me want to get back into SC2 just to try this mod.
It honestly reminds me a lot of the Call to Arms ability in W3 by letting you convert workers into an emergency combat unit. I think that's a really nice touch. They're never going to be on-par with a legionnaire, but they're decent enough and can provide some emergency defense for the base, especially when paired with the Field Engineers putting up turrets. Both of those are very cheap options, while your more expensive units can be on the field doing work. Also, love the Legionnaire in general. It's a slightly higher damage and durability marine, but it *needs* to be doing volley fire and stutter stepping, rather than just constantly applying dakka. Overall, a really cool mod.
"I don't like random editions", says man who has completed all three campaigns with randomized units and one campaign with a randomized mission order. "Not my personal flavor of tea."
To be fair, he had a direct hand in setting up those tiers - we have no idea how the random modifiers look or are balanced here. There's also an element of knowing what you have to work with when it's your own units, before you send them out - when enemies are randomized you really don't know until they're in vision range and probably attacking you. There were elements of choice sprinkled all throughout the random units and random mission order. Not so much for enemy modifiers.
It's rather telling that I can come into this blind with the expectation that it's a completely custom campaign along the lines of First Light, discover that it's simply yet another Wings of Liberty mod on top of an ever-growing pile.....and leave absolutely delighted and giddy and wanting to play it for myself. Truly top-tier modsmanship.
This mod feels like it's designed by someone who actually plays the game and made everything good they wanted in games a reality, then playtested it until it's actually good. Best kind of dev.
For free especially, that's a nice touch. Basically means you can commit your entire mineral line into one big push towards the end like was done here, which gets some extra value out of all the supply that went into those SCVs.
I wholeheartedly agree with you that this is an amazing mod. These changes make sense and aren't overpowered when the enemy is Nightmare difficulty, and I assume the enemy has similar upgrades as you progress. It's just a breath of fresh air across the board to see something new! I was honestly grinning the whole video at how cool it was. ALSO!!!! Does the SCV grapple mean they can effectively blink over gaps and build things where you normally can't?! That would be AMAZING! I noticed some small details like the enemy having the fire suppression system (unsure if that's there in normal Nightmare) and the fact that the enemies looked like they were using SC1 Skins?? It makes so much sense because the outpost would be older as a mining camp and doesn't use the new visuals that Raynor has!
The SCV grapple is indeed there to allow them to cross rift or to go build on cliffs. I tried to apply the custom skins to enemy units when it made sense. They are also associated with minor buff/nerfs depending on the skin.
@@Nadrel11 " I tried to apply the custom skins to enemy units when it made sense" i love this. one of the things i hated about sc2 was that there were times where you fight enemies armies/saved friendlies that meant to have old units but those units were on par on with terran/protoss/zerg modern look than the old look, like how zerutal saved the buildings and friendly units in the overmind mission but were based off the new look which made no sense in lore
