Squidmar: "You don't have to end up with a green wall."
Ork players: "GREEN WALL! GREEN WALL! GREEN WALL!"
GREEN IZ BEST!
Me with my 20000 point purple ork army all in one lunchbox:
*WAAAGHLL!
Yeah, it hit me personally. Mostly because i have my orks with Green skin + Green armor, so...
@@bremo8365 *Pours out a box of nothing but well-painted bases.*
Your friendship with Daniel Radcliffe is so wholesome
Talented guy. He can act, rap, and paint.
It’s a Swedish term of endearment
That's not Daniel Radcliffe...that's Harry Potter. I mean really. Squicmar's famous. Why would he hang out with a nobody when he can hang out with Harry himself.
hipster harry potter in da house
@@TheDigitalThreat a hat doesnt make you a hipster. He doesnt even have a beard or mustache.
man i can almost FEEL the disease radiating off of the glowing green. Pappa Nurgle is truly honoured by this paint scheme
"And you don't want an army that looks like a green wall..."
Ork: Wut? But dats how youze gitz et all nice an' proper orkie!
This is very artistic styling for Nurgle!
Also, I like how the nurgle icon was worked into the ground for the flying base at 8:54! Nice little detail
I love this look, I really wish I could see you guys do a Great Unclean One in this style. I find it hard to imagine such a large unit done like this.
"And you don't want an army that looks like a green wall"
But i do... i want them to look like an unified, indistinguishable wall of filth moving forward
Yeah. Artistically, Squidmar is on-point here, but for army composition for actual tabletop games, I want my army to look like an uniformed army. I think his method is a great way to single characters out, though. Make them look like their own personalities amidst the tide of uniform soldiers
@@ajaxtaur they look pretty uniform to me
Yeah that was my takeaway as well, he did a great job and obviously you should paint how you want and how you like, but for me nothing beats that classic Nurgle green with the oxidized blades and the purple tentacles.
@@jarlsunshot5542 Right?
Well maybe with the addition of heaaaavy rust on the blades instead of oxidization.
While painting Death Guard i can have all 3 ;)
You shouldn’t try and paint like anybody else. Yeah it’s good to come and get some ideas from guys like yourself squid but you should always paint how you like and what you like. So long as your happy with how your minis look other people’s opinions thoughts and suggestions mean jack. Happy painting guys and enjoy the hobby your way that’s all that matters.
@@cenciende9401 like your advice is crap advice. You don’t like it ignore it and move on.Your opinion only matters to you. An not everyone wants to be the next Picasso, some just want to enjoy painting their way.
@@Faydakin-xp7bk So now I could paint only Nazi Svatikas and be happy with myself. Thank you for your crappy tip.
@@paoloscavalcacinghie428 you choosing to paint that crap on your minis is your choice. If it makes you happy well that’s your problem an a result of some messed up thinking on your part. An I’d say painting that crap on anything is a crap idea.
Id say that if its your vision and its how you want it you did a good job however id say not taking on any criticism is flawed its easy to admit when your right but its not so easy to admit when your wrong and generally if someone offering criticism they want you to improve so at least think about what they said and see if its valid
@@paoloscavalcacinghie428 (to be fair, if you're painting one of those WWII models, you're inevitably going to need to paint swastikas anyway lmao)
I am new to the hobby i havent bought any Warhammer yet but the way u have incredibly painted those nurggle minis made me consider buying them :D
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly you guys are able to achieve such striking results. Awesome as always! Snyggt jobbat 👍
I'm completely new to the hobby and can see how this would obviously work for nurgles. But what about armies that have a uniform like Stormcast Eternals, Dwarves of Slaves of darkness for AoS, or basically any marine army for 40k? Would love to see a video where you do this with an army in uniforms.
I see that problem but it is always up to you. You don’t have to paint your army in a random fashion that in the end makes all the miniatures come together. You could paint your marines with random camouflage or maybe their armor represents shifting colors like a chameleon. It’s always up to your own imagination.
I think with every army you have to decide yourself, is every one made with exactly the same skin tone, does everyone have the same color of the fabric, do they all have the same hair color? For space marines i can totally see why a person would be wanting to paint all his blood angels coming directly from the factory. But you don't have to :)
I've thought about this too. You can achieve variation within the same uniform with different environmental lighting effects, different weathering, and personalization with decoration. Start with your uniform color as a base, and then work in some really extreme lighting rather than typical midday sun, and include object source lighting for gadgets and weapon fire. I think NotJustMecha has a great example here: ruclips.net/video/yxxilu-vZZA/видео.html
For uniformed armies you can always use slightly different shades of your basic uniform color. This can represent various degrees of wear and tear on the uniform as well as different suppliers. You can also mix different shades on the same model, representing fresh replacement parts.
I remember seeing a color photo of a column of WWII American Sherman tanks a few years back. There were 8 tanks in the column, and no two were the same shade of olive drab. Between variations in lighting, age of the vehicles, and even different batches of paint from different manufacturers each one was unique.
@@SquidmarMiniatures do you have any tips for trying to achieve this kind of variability when painting space marines?
thanks
I never liked a single nurgle model.. until this video. Great job, makes me wanna try it :-)
I'd love to see how you would approach this concept with something that inherently has a lot of color homogeneity like the Ad Mech.
I love to do this with my seraphon, I add tattoos and different little things like golden scales to declare rank and status, the tattoos, crests, and Precious metals are always different on each mini depending on their arbitrary rank or what special squad I have put them in which gives the army both a coherent yet uniqhe feel which I love
Can we make this a monthly feature please? I would love to see Lukas be tossed a start collecting box/combat patrol box each month to see his take on it. Squidmar if you are feeling saucy a head to head start collecting show down would be awesome. You and Lucas both get the same start collecting box and you get 1 week to build and paint the minis. The catch is a divider is set up between you so you cannot see how the other person is building or painting their box. I think it would make for a cool experiment to see how you both interpret an army, choose colours, and what story you make for them.
I must say it I LOVE this kind of videos, they teach you some new ways to paint your minis and also give you that little push you need to try out new things
Glad you enjoy it!
@@SquidmarMiniatures see ya in the discord hihihi
If you paint for display, or jsut for fun, then sure you can make every mini different. But when you paint and then play a lot, unified colours schemes and palets make for easy and quick visual recognition of what you have on the table, what squad is what, where is your leader of the squad, banner guy, musician etc.
Side note: I prefer the GW style, I want a massive army all in unision. When I play my Verminus skaven, I want the sea of red and brass and black. Not every model model being unique
I think this approach gives you the best of both worlds. It's still a sea of green slime, rusty copper, and pallid flesh, but applied in different ways on every mini so there's more visual variety.
I Love Lukas' painterly style. The variation in the layer highlights are gorgeous. Green / brown / Purple / pink. What a brilliant palette!
I think both styles have their place and different people are ofc going to like different things. I do love this take on these nasty boys though.
I wonder if Lukas is related to Daniel Radcliffe, without even knowing it. Like far far out related.
He sure is a wizard with the painting wand!
Most probably. And their common cousin is James McAvoy... :-D
Nah, just the glasses and magical painting skills
Far? I'd say, like, siblings... 😄
Ah yes, the secret to army painting. Delegating!
Your vision of what looks good and what you want it to look like makes this look easy
YOU have the LOVLIEST ACCENT!! I just started playing D&D. Wanted to paint some miniatures. My character is a Druid. I am trying to practice/learn a Swedish accent for her. Last week, I overdid it, and sounded ridiculous. Listening to YOU, I thought, "he sounds lovely. Subtle, but it's there. And pleasant". So now I can watch to learn how to paint, but try to pick up your speech patterns, too. Your English is perfect, just enough of a Swedish "flavor" to make your speech sound slightly exotic & exciting to an American ear, lol. I know Swedes are often sensitive about not sounding "perfect" in English. I mean absolutely no insult--I could listen to you all day. Your speaking voice in English is absolutely lovely. I wasn't 100% sure you were Swedish until I went to your "about info". My mother was Swedish, and I was born in Karlstad.
We need this for every Chaos God... I don't think you want any of them jeaolous of this video Emil...
Agree! Would definitely like to see Slaanesh done similarly. It's rare to see non-box art Slaanesh done tastefully.
I painted my Plaguebearers all sorts of colors, a few are grey, some are brown, some are yellow, some are even green, I've got the occasional purple, pink, or red ones, at least one blue one, and I'm glad I decides to do so because it made me do the same with my nurglings, though they only have 4 or 5 skin tones, dull pink, brown, white, green, and tan, which makes them feel like actual individuals
Please do some more Daemons Start Collecting Boxes in alternative schemes! Or even just a few of the troops and a new model like the Fiends. Awesome content, as it's of interest to AoS and 40k players, and it's something that you don't really see much of for the likes of Slaanesh and Khorne especially (Tzeentch is already pretty heavy on varied color use).
Oh such amazingf colours for Nurgle! So great to see something other than a green brown wall!
They look fantastic. Well done!
I just finished building my nurgle start collecting this week and am getting ready to paint soon. Perfect timing!
Okay so I see a lot of people saying this kind of technique doesn't work on marines so a tip I have for making spacemarines a bit more individual Is to use weathering so give them some dents and scratches, naturally no two will be the same but if you want them to look fresh and shiny you can always use some variation in hazard lines if that's your thing.
You guys make painting look so easy. I can't even keep a paintbrush pointy, let alone get to the detail you do with the size brushes you are using.
The Results are amazing! The Contrasts are so stunning! Thanks for This Video
Merlins Beard, its Harry Potter! So bloody beautiful paintings.
Another epic video! 👍 I'm painting my first miniature, I got inspired by you and your videos
You and I have the same idea for basing Nurgle Daemons with them appearing to emerge from the grime. They look fantastic man, Glory to the Plaguefather!
Love Lukas' fish tattoo...
The boy who lived is back baby!
I have no words to describe how cool they ended and I don't even like nurgle. It's amazing! WOWwowwowwow
Loving seeing these start collecting boxes being painted!
Really a great job on these Nurgle army! Beautiful colors and cool bases- wow!
Lucas just smashing it!
I really loved the tale of this paint scheme. Much better than studio scheme on the box.
those are the best nurglings I have seen. I normally don't like them because of the comical look GW gave them but this scheme looks so good!
As always Lucas does a 10/10 amazing job.
I hope to one day be able to just pick a few colors like you guys, and make an awesome product in the process💪😁
I think these are some of the coolest painted minis I’ve seen
Heard a beautiful Swedish accent and subbed right away
Good advice. I bet Marco approves.
This squarespace ad made me think of the Trapped under Plastic S2E22 though.
these are off the hoooooooook. thanks for the quick but thorough explanation
black spray base coat in a white t-shirt? BRAVE.
Old skool squidmar videos are the best
Every video should start with you throwing a box at Lucas
Glad to see painting your hand is also a required step :)
Aha, a speed painting video! This is promising.
Oh... Nurgle. That's always the standard for any speed painting vid. :D
This is my favorite type of squidmar content
These miniatures look amazing! I think adding Lukas to your furniture is a great design decision
Fantastic looking force
Incredible work ! Absolutely love the green . Cheers !
Looks super amazing. Freakin cool content as usual. Thanks for Sharing 🥰🥰🥰
Always awesome when your mate Harry Potter can lend a hand!
Very, very cool stuff. 'Nuff said.
You should link the videos you mention for easy access~ Much love for all you do my dudes, much respect and gratitude!
The way you said goodbye made it sound like you're both on vacation together, on a beach somewhere warm haha
I appreciate the interesting take but I'm all about that classic nurgle
Just like there's the 'Eavy Metal studio style, and there was for a while the Kevin Dallimore style, 'RUclips style' is now pervasive, with heavy contrast vivid color etc. All styles are affected by fashion and available materials and techniques and eventually look tired. But I also think the idea that 'this is what models look like on the internet so mine have to look like that' is stronger than ever.
I love these Nurgle painting videos
It would be really cool to get some real-time footage of the painting too, so we can get an idea of how slow or fast Lucas does his delicate lines and highlights.
If it looks good I dont think is wrong way. Tough a more morbid scheme can match nurgle more (but not be as visualy cool as this), the copper blades with green patina rust is a very detailed cosmetic effect that is colorfull but iron blades that are rusted seem more nurglesqu.
I dont think dirty when I see bronze with green patina, but if its scrappy iron with a rust it invokes this is very ugly and if you get stabed with it will get tetinus.
Bronze with patina seems to fit more with tyzumch scheme, even though it is technicaly a rust (which then prevents rusting).
Thanks
That is SICK looking SC Nurgle box! I didn't like demon side of Nurgle, preferring mortals, but this makes me like them! Nice!
I CAN FEEL THE POWER OF MOTIVATION IN MY VEINS!!!!!!!!
Brilliant as always!
See, I like how GamesWorkshop painted them, it's just the fact that on the packaging they are all the same shade of green, and a too vibrant and clean shade of green at that. Same with Orcs.
I like to paint my Nurgle miniatures different shades of more earthy light greens, as well as throw the odd gray and beige one in there.
Very cool, I’m about to use these techniques to paint my Death Guard Plague Daemon army.
Going to try something like this with my StartCollecting Daemons of Khorne and StartCollecting Daemons of Tzeentch. this is so awesome
Always love your videos! thank you for putting so much time into them, they're a great watch every. single. time!
That was refreshing. Makes me want to paint differently.
2:16 at dig that frame shot with the paints at the top right. Makes me want to draw and paint that into something.
Mainly reminds me of a catfish or brown bullhead fish.
This really makes me wanna go and get a Start Collecting Nurgle Daemons box
I do think they look amazing, though from some angles they kinda appear kinda metallic, which personality I don’t enjoy as much, really creative and the green really pops, but I think I’ll stick to the traditional style for the most part, maybe I’ll throw in some of the color gradient, but a little more toned down
Very pretty!
I actually grabbed 3 start collecting nurgle daemons myself for a 40K 2000 point army. I’m halfway through the army atm. Gonna be speedpainting through 30 plaguebearers next.
Lukas Potter is a beast! :O Awesome!
The pale flesh is stunning! (As well as disgusting ofc) Great work!
YAY! More Lukas!
I wanna put that green in a harlequin troupe I'm painting to look like they are from a poison swamp world so thank you for the green idea. Now I need to figure out a good purple compliment.
Great video, I often struggle with motivation when Uniformity is the goal of my armoured space marines. Battle damage and rank markings are kinda where these ideas you talk about can be expressed. Freehand heraldry I suppose also but this isn't really in the spirit you are discussing here. Being a dark angel collecter I think the different coloured "wings" of the chapter may have pulled me towards them also!
They look amazing! Would love to see a Start collecting Seraphon painted up 😉
I love the classic squidboi videos.
Great job Lukas, these look incredible.
Hi Sqiudmar,
I'm follow your channel now, for a long time and I want to say, that you make a really good job, very good content and your style of painting is amazing!
But now a question:
In most Videos of different painters, Citadel paints are often, the most used paints. I'm use them to, they are good paints, I have a lot, but I hate these pots more and more, because I want to replace some to other brands.
Now I saw the colour sets from AK(3th.Gen.)and Scale(Fantasy&Games). Do you have experience with them, would you recommend them, are they worth it?
What tipps can you give about, how to find similar colourtones to Citadel.
What do you think about conversion charts? , are they help or not? , because I has made the experience that some conversion charts are often far away from the original tone.
Do you ever make compromises, if it comes to find similar colourtones from other brands? How important is it that colourtones must match exactly?
Sorry for that novel, but I'm still in the learning phase and inexperienced and still experimenting to find my painting method.
Kind regards Mark L.
man i wish i had a profesional minature too look at as a goal while painting
the style looks amazing!!
Looks so good
Herry Potter of miniature painting haha. Cheers!
I keep watching these videos, and I really enjoy them, but I can't help but feel like a dog trying reeeeeeally hard to understand English. I watched you do every step of that and I'm still completely floored by the incredible results.
That set looks amazing, really well done Lukas !
GWs coming for you next !
Killed it, Lukas! Awesome work
Reminds me of those creatures in the Twilight realm like Midna from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
