Well done Greg! Congrats on the maiden. The F-4 looked impressive in the air and it handled well in that wind. Nothing wrong with a little jitters, I get them all the time on a 1st flight especially with a new bird. Informative build and set up!
Awesome job! I have had two 90mm Phantoms in the 8S version since they came out (Navy and Air Force). Same deal with the aileron trim and certainly not a jet to get slow in the turns with for sure. Other than that, once you get them comfortably trimmed out they will fly rock solid as far as stability goes. Definitely a jet that you want to stay ahead of however but a beautiful representation of one of the most classic jets out there! Keep up the good work.
Nice Job! I get the nerves on a maiden as well. In my case.. "Its old guy flies RC". That's a beautiful airplane and I love the camo scheme. I flew my buddy's a few years back and for some reason I remember having issues with orientation of the airframe in the air. Again, great and good landings as well!
I use the SMC High Volt 9300 6s packs in my Phantom. I get good flight times and the plane balances out nicely. I also modded the elevator push rod. I found the stock elevator push rod too flimsy so I beefed it up with a carbon fiber rod wrapped in thread and secured with thin CA. Nice Maiden flight ! Keeping it real .
Wow that was really nerve racking also for me as just a YT spectator xD I got nervous when you took off and she was moving a lot. But you managed like a Pro! Trimmed everything properly and came down on a steep approach for landing with an spectacular flair and touching down just before she would stall (just guessing). The second flight was also spectacular!! Yes we (folks) are OK Sir hahahaha
Great maiden. Suggestion: Do a video on your "hat cam" that you occasionally use. What camera, set-up, tips and tricks for good results, etc. It would be an interesting video and a change-up for you.
Ouystanding job dealing with the wind. I spent 2 years wotking on the F4 C, D, and E modles in the Air Force. The F4 is proof that uou can make a brick fly with enough thrust! Full size that is.
Just got that same jet I'm fixing to go maiden I was going to go yesterday Sunday but I decided it was too windy so I'll just wait for a better day and that's really what you got to say to yourself
Well for the regular pilot yes, but I am pushed to pump out content and do plane reviews so i am not always afford the chance to wait for best conditions.I just have to learn to deal with it.
Another thought. The CG can be perfect, but if the incidences of the wing and tail are off, a plane won’t fly level. And with a flying stab, the incidence of the horizontal stab can be way off and you’d never know it because you don’t have a fixed surface to align the elevator with. The manufacturer might give you a setting to use, but every plane and person are different. So, how it behaves inverted is the best way to tell.
@ Yep, when you’re ready, pull into a 45 degree climb, roll to inverted, let go, and watch what it does. If it falls, move the battery back a little. Note that moving the CG back can make the elevator too sensitive, and you might have to decrease the throw. I decrease the throw by moving the linkage in on the servo arm, not by turning the travel down in the radio. Of course, moving the CG back too far can make the plane unstable. So, you have to decide whether it’s too touchy or unstable and proceed accordingly.
Very nice F-4 EDF. I have the same. As for your current right-aileron adjustment, you might consider the high crosswind your flying in. It's not uncommon for pilots to have very odd trim depending on what their navigating or the course heading. Also, you mentioned you need up elevator, this indicates nose heavy, move the battery back as far as you can, he likes tail heavy.
Hi FG this is my favourite all time plane and once I’ve sold a few I’d love to get this so will be good to see how she flys I have heard it’s a bit troublesome of a jet but such a looker
Well I have only flown this once and the easiest part was landing. I have since discovered there is a slight deformity in the mold of the right wing causing it to need a few clicks of right aileron to fly straight. i also discovered is no wither you fly a 5k or 6k battery butt it up against the canopy wall just like I explained in the radi setup video.
No i don't set the gains other than leaving them on a roller to adjust with each flight. And I don't have any priorities et with them just whatever default is. Like I noticed in the the first part she was getting rocked around a bit I called it "wonky" so I increased the gains on the roller and that took care of it.
Perfect landing on that first flight, its not uncommon to get the motion rc/freewing airplane shakes because thats alot of care/money up in smoke if they crash! 😅
Your using your bind button for reverse thrust and is it possible to use the bind port for reverse thrust also thanks for a great channel bud much love from vermont!!
Right i dont think its possible but i thought i might have missed something i definitely like the idea of using the bind button for reverse thrust thanks bud
Just because you have to change the elevator trim doesn’t mean it’s tail or nose heavy. Trim for level flight right side up and then fly it inverted. If the nose drops when it’s inverted, it’s nose heavy and if it climbs, it’s tail heavy. I balance mine to where I have to hold a little forward stick (down elevator) to fly level inverted. The pattern fliers want their planes to maintain a 45 degree inverted climb. Also, I don’t know why yours needed so much right aileron trim. I don’t think my F-4 needs it. And, as you know, I use F-mode trim so that I have separate in-flight aileron and elevator trims for each position of the flaps.
Thanks, had I got a few more flights in i could have gotten her sorted out better but in the maiden no matter what she keep wanting right aileron to straighten out. once I left in a little right in she flew much better. All rims were perfectly neutral before lift off also. As for elevator I think I had a little to much for my battery weight/position I will readjusts and try again next flight. Hard to trim in heavy wind and hard to tell much from just one 3 minute flight.
@@TheRCAviator Well i am more of an instinctive pilot rather than technical, I felt like flying her will be more of a challenge but she felt very good on landings.
Awesome jet, im kind of supprised. Everyone say its a heavy jet and it needs a lot of runway.. but yours seems so take of no efford or was it mainly the wind?
Bros what’s ur AS3x setting likr priority and AS3x gains on this plane sick flight btw I had my AS3x gains too high on my yak and it stalled due to oscillation and crash flew terribly lol
I set no priorities just what ever default is. I keep the gains adjustable on the roller, if I noticed the plane start to oscillate I turn them down a bit, if the plane is getting rocked around to much from the wind I turn them up until i get that perfect balance. Every day is different and the wind and how the air feels is different every time I fly here so I keep every thing adjustable to that flight.
It will need some right aileron at first and keep that 6k 0r 5k snug up against the canopy drop down like I showed in the radio set up. I tried to move the 6k I used in the maiden back back about 1/2 inch from there since it was a bigger heavy battery but she seemed tail heavy so on the next time I fly I am leaving the 6k right where I originally had the 5k. I think this one is going to be one that likes to favor slightly nose heavy over level or slightly tail heavy like deltas do.
I figure 1 to 2 more flights and I will have her sorted and really start to enjoy her. Had a storm not rolled in I was going to do just that, ohh well!
It's a little bit too windy to be out there all that trim you're putting in it is most likely from the wind always say a little breeze is nice and help you fly better you need a little bit nicer day to trim it out for a smooth flight
Well the weather permitted this maiden flight only!!
Nicely done! Greatly appreciate your candor and humility.
Thanks, no point in sugar coating or being overly negative either. Let the plane sell itself and just say how you feel about it.
You rocked those landings brother! Well done.
Thanks 👍 I hope to do more than one flight this afternoon.
Very nice maiden always liked the F-4 glad you did this one
Thanks 👍 Just want to fly her more than just once, Mother nature chased us off.
That’s a great looking plane!
I think so too! Can't wait to fly her again!
Awesome maiden flight and looks great in the air, very well flown and great landings, i could feel your nerves prior to take off, well done....jeff.
Well she was a handful in the wind , I just wish I could get a calm day to really see how she feels.
Awsome maiden fg,,, given that wind well done😊
Thanks so much!!
Very nice maiden flight fg!! The nerves were showing but you flew her nicely!! So happy for you brother, beautiful F-4!!
Thanks 👍 Yeah I really had her hyped up in my head. But after all is said and done, landing her was the easiest part!!
Good job man!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great maiden!!!
Thank you so much!!
Congratulations on the maiden flight! I also get nervous flying a new plane. I was anticipating this video as I really like the F4 Phantom.
Thanks, I really enjoy it so far. hope to be able fly it more than just once.
Well done, very realistic looking jet in the air, afterburners looking great against the cloud.
Thank you! Cheers!

I have always loved the F4 and have wanted this one for some time, just haven’t got my nerve up.😁
I was the same way, very nervous about this big beast. But I am so glad I finally pulled the trigger!!

I understand what your saying, but until i am more used to her I will not fly her inverted yet. Perhaps on the 4th or 5th time in the air.

Excellent work FG. The F4 afterburner doesn't look calibrated correct on throttle up but the Blue looks awesome at full power.
Thanks, no i on purpose like it on all the time, I know it is not scale, I have it at lowest settings on idles than flares to 100% with full throttle.

@@FatGuyFliesRC Also, I'm curious how to you find this F-4 Phanton handles compared to the E-flight F-16 80mm?
Good maiden considered the c-wind.

Been flying for over 30 years and I probably could go out there and fly just fine but my experience tells me to just wait
So have I about 18 years total but i can't afford to wait on best possible days. I fly when I can due to work and channel/sponsor responsibilities.
