    Never loathed myself more than on my self-love journey. Never lost myself as much. And never was I more isolated from people, separated from those I loved the most, or was more selfish. I wanted to follow my own truth and I didn’t think of who was hurt, even thought I never meant to hurt anyone. Also, never did I have so little empathy for others. I landed at a place where I felt a part of me was missing. There was no happiness there that lasted and I lost a lot because of it. Of course, at first it was great. It started out innocent and I was loving towards others too. But that was the trap. When I began the self-love work I was kinder, happier, had good relationships, was joyful. But then I was told I needed to love myself more, and I bought it. The self-love message doesn’t bring lasting joy. It’s a theatre play where, once you see behind the curtains, there is a lot of pain. That’s my experience from my 8 years of “self-love”. Now instead, I am content and I feel like myself again. I left it all and I have never been more at peace, with myself and others. Of course, I had help from God🙏🏼

    Thank you for this one. I've been back and forth lately with this struggle. Talking to myself saying my life is not my own anymore. Its for my kids, family, and the kids down the road that come saying they haven't ate all day❤

    Our culture tends to tie self love and self care together. Ee need to separate the two. We can focus on jesus, humbly serving others, but take care of ourselves such as getting enough sleep, Journaling, eating healthy, ect.

    I've listened to this at least 4 times! Granger, you explain these videos so well! The part that broke my heart is the question you got from Matthew from Nebraska! I cannot imagine! I don't know them, but I can pray for them! Thank you for encouraging Matthew! We all think we are going through tough times, then we hear something like this! 😢💔

    I lost my son November 27th 2022. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Granger, he was a normal, beautiful, God loving young man. A kid who thought of others before himself. As he graduated high-school with a scholarship to college, he began to change. He knew something was wrong. He said he felt anxious and couldn't concentrate. I took him to several different doctors. I had cat scans done. No one could give me an answer. This illness creped up so slowly that no one knew what it was. My son was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in November of 2021. He lost his life in November of 2022. He was 22 years old. My son loved life. He loved and believed in Christ. He was so worried of someone coming to hurt him that he hurt himself. So, it is very difficult to hear you speak on suicide. My son wanted to live. He was not in any state of mind to choose that for himself. I struggle every single day as his mom to get through every day without him.

      I am so very sorry for your loss. I've heard Granger speak on suicide before, and while I think I understand where he's coming from, I don't quite agree. I tend to think that suicide is the height of self-loathing rather than self-love. I also disagree with those who say suicide is selfish or cowardly. Someone who seriously contemplates suicide has gone to such a dark place that they honestly believe there will never be light again. They cannot see the existence of any hope in the future. Their ability to think rationally is dangerously bent or broken. In your son's case, we cannot see inside his mind, but if we could, I believe we would have seen a mind so clouded by illness that that there was no way to see out of it. As people with rational minds, that way of thinking makes no sense to us, but for someone whose mind is ailing, they just can't see things clearly. Some who contemplate suicide are fortunate enough to have an intervening force step in before they are successful in self-harm, and then they can get the help they need to move forward from it. Unfortunately, some never emerge from that dark place, and they take the only way out that makes sense to their mind at that time.

    On self love…. The thing is they are doing both in selfishness … the “people pleasing” they were doing is to make them selves look good or to have people like them more, so now with the self love they are getting to do what they were already doing but without having to pretend they did things because they cared about people.
    Also what’s funny is they want to put themselves first and say we should put ourselves first but they don’t really believe that. They do want to put themselves first but will be the first to complain when others “are selfish”, or never consider them. So it’s all about self… I can just think of me but you better think of me too.

    Feeling comfortable within me....
    My teen years were very scary for me. From a young age i had been molested. As i became an adult, i was very shy. When i left high school and my parents home, i went down a path of lust and fell away from my Christian upbringing.
    I did not love myself. I felt very uncomfortable inside, physically, mentally, emotionally. What he said resonated within me.
    My question: how can you love others if you don't love yourself?
    Since i became a parent decades ago, i have been born again, i love God more than anyone or anything. In that love i have found peace and acceptance of my past and ultimately forgiveness. I'm that way, i now love myself (not to the exclusion of others; me, myself and i are not a hindrance to loving others).

    Wonderful video, I love your outlook and I totally agree, self love can be destructive or damaging. Sometimes this self-love is self-serving or selfish.
    My question is, how to react to when someone says you must love yourself before you can be loved? As in, in a relationship. How would someone really know if you love yourself, it puts alot of questions for me now about that side of the topic.

    • @bowed305
      @bowed305 3 месяца назад

      Can love someone else? Was that the rest of the sentence that you started? If so, it's correct, and it in now way conflicts with what Granger is saying here. In fact, Matthew 22:39 says we are to love others as we love ourselves, so loving ourselves is a basis for loving others, but if I understood Granger's point, it's about proper proportions and balance.

    my heart aches for Matthew and his daughters. the death of a wife and a mother at an early age is something a family should not have to deal with. Matthew you need to find purpose in your pain and love on your girls so much. Lean on your family and God to move forward with your life.

    Yep! The Lord reveled this to me years ago. It is not our selves that can give any love! It is not “self” control, “self” defense, “self” preservations “self” respect “self love…it is the Lord defending, controlling, preserving, loving us. That self love is about selfish ambition. Can’t stand hearing it. Like “we deserve it” …everywhere love yourself, treat yourself. That is why we are so self absorbed!!!!! We deserve nothing. The wages of our sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ, Jesus, our Lord! We deserve nothing. That is the Lord Jesus’ grace and mercy. I pray others hear what the Spirit of the Lord is revealing in this mindset and focus…it’s not about us!!!! It is about being used for the kingdom of God!

    I think it is self-pity and pride, not self-love, that is destructive. Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”. Self pity can mimic love. Pride says, “I’ll show you, I’ll destroy me” You can’t love others if you hate yourself

    Doesn't the Bible say a preacher/minister should not be paid? If this is true, then any person who takes money for preaching God's word is not truly of or for God

    • @SteveW79-2K

      @keithm1689 1 Corinthians 9, Matthew 10

    • @bowed305
      @bowed305 3 месяца назад

      @@SteveW79-2K Matthew 10 was a select group of individuals sent out by Jesus to complete a specific task. It does not refer to a full-time preacher who has been hired by a congregation. As far as 1 Cor. 9, vs. 14 specifically says, "In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel." Paul then goes on to explain a choice he has made because he understands how his availing himself of this right would prove as a stumbling block to the group of people to whom he was writing.
      If what you are saying is true, and there is no Bible verse that says what you are claiming, how are those who do the work of full-time preaching suppose to sustain themselves and their families?
