Why A Bare Metal Motorcycle Was The Right Choice

  • Here's how to get that bare metal motorcycle tank and fender look by exposing the raw steel of your motorcycle's tank and fenders, and then clearcoating the steel to protect the metal from the elements.
    Super Remover: amzn.to/47oZP8c
Clear Coat (high temp, gloss): amzn.to/47yl73A
    Plastic scrapers: amzn.to/3s2TnE1
I did this custom modification to my Triumph Bonneville motorcycle. I really like the mod because it made the motorcycle totally unique. You can apply this to any motorcycle with a steel gas tank and fenders for an exposed / bare metal look.
I've also sprinkled in a little bit of my own philosophy on life, moving forward, and forgiving yourself, or at the very least, forgiving myself. Hopefully this video shows you how to take the paint off of your motorcycle and clear coat, and maybe helps you to think about life a bit, like it did for me.
    Ride safe, but have fun.

We called bikes finished this-way 'rat-bikes' ...usually a bit rattier than yours overall but it does look great and stands-out from all the Vanilla-ones . I'm nearly 70 and I'd give it garage-space over stdd... Looking forward to seeing your 3-Modern-classic-comparisons , I ride a W650 classic -03 , an old 82 XV1000 Roadster (yamaha ) , chain-drive (TR1 1000cc) and a slightly 'Rat' 72 XS-2 Yamaha 650 cafe'-bike, all fun, all different . The XV is dressed to look older with BSA-seat etc , produces a-little-over 70hp . It never gets old and is always fun . Dave nz

Something to be said for a bike that keeps you smiling. Thanks Dave, and you're right, this Triumph is a little ratty. I just put out the second video on the comparison series here: ruclips.net/video/p4MOxzU_mx8/видео.html

Fonishing off the bike on this manner, certainty is thinking outside the box. I think it came out pretty good.

Thanks! Far from perfect but better than it was and that's good enough for me

She is running well now too! I needed to get a helmet with a larger smile zone 😊. Pure joy.

Dude so glad you found this! I was waiting until I could get back to my computer to figure out how to get in touch with you!
PS also super glad to hear she's running properly now!

It only took a fresh battery, new spark plugs, 25 hours with some sea foam, and a good ride. This bike is so very nicely balanced, and sounds great too. Frankly, I am not sure how you let her go, but I thank you! 🎉

@@CaullynGodfrey I wish I could take credit for how well setup she is but all praise goes to Accelerated Technologies in Buckhorn. Really glad to hear you love the bike and also just happy that this girl is back in her stride after being neglected the last couple years! They really are like people to me lol

Dude, that looks sweet! I didn't see it, but is that a 2k epoxy clear coat?

Thanks John! I used this high temperature glossy engine enamel clear coat amzn.to/47yl73A from DupliColor - it was recommended to me by Casey Anderson, one of my favorite motorcycle restorers I've been following for over a decade (he's now on youtube at motorcycles_and_art). From there the instructions on the label are super easy, and tell you how to apply each of the six coats. I just did one round per part, then another round per part, over and over following the instructions. Easy peasy and no running, which I was grateful for, because usually I'm bad with aerosols!

@@YouMotorcycle Good stuff - I checked it out, looks like it'll hold up. I asked because I painted my bobber using 2k epoxy clear coat, which was recommended due to its durability and hardness.

When you take paint off (Stop using liquids) Use sand paper.

Ok. How come? I don't know if I could have gotten the look I was going for with sand paper. I think sand paper is better for a really clean finish. I wanted a more aged, grunge look, something I could play Nirvana too 😄
