  • New content continues - this video is a November 2021 Grand Layout Tour, sitting up front in the Cab.
    This grand tour of the layout sees the full Coal Train run from the Port Kembla North Yard up the Escarpment to the Coal Loader, up on level 3.
    From these we head back down the Escarpment back into Port Kembla, where we test the new Coal loop track, where the coal cars will unload.
    And I'm sure as you travel around the layout, you will see further layout progress
    This video catches up on all the build news and so much more!

    All the build and track planning has been undertaken in Anyrail 6, for the Escarpment construction. This is an Australian model train layout build.

    Like me, you accept the benefit of the helix but don't see any glamour in the going around bit so the musical interlude was most welcome!
    That's a huge undertaking you've got there and I hope you never lose your impetus with it. It's going to be great!

      Thanks Mark, yeah 3 years strong and 2 years prior to that for planning..so you could say 5 years to date. Yeah the helix climbs are boring so have adopted this approach..cheers

    That was brilliant Jason. Loved the music going through the helix's.
    So even with the speeded up sections that has taken you well over 24 minutes to just do one circuit on the coal line, wow, that is some length of track mate.
    never bored with your videos Jason, keep em coming.
    Regards Chris

    thanks for the reply jason........it was just a thought as you have the coal doing the bottom an top turn around..... you could some how do the passenger line as well... it might look ascetically pleasing also.....cheers... now on with the show until the next video.

      The passenger trains can do a loop and reverse in as it stands now, but probably not very prototypical. I did have a closer look at incorporating a run around next to the station earlier today..looks very tight..will have to sus out that one more

    Thanks for the tour Jason. Loving that musical helix feature... will you be adding a light show and smoke machine later? Anyone else on the edge of their seat, worried about derailments on those upper levels - although it has to be said, the track work is reassuringly perfect!

    • @JasonWood_Escarpment
      @JasonWood_Escarpment  2 года назад

      Hmm..light show and smoke machine..now there are some ideas lol! Most of the track sits at least 50mm from the edges, so there is that buffer. But knock on Wood, no close calls so far 🤓 regards

    Looks so good Jason!! Are there going to be some more industries between top and bottom? Like a cement factory or power plant?

    • @JasonWood_Escarpment
      @JasonWood_Escarpment  2 года назад

      Hi Yuri, yes there will be. There are 2 branch lines that come off the mains.
      On level 2, the branch line goes off to the loco maintenance yards, this area will have a goods and milk industry serving this area.
      On level 3, the branch line will be home to the passenger coach maintenance yards. There will also be a terminus station as well as one industry (yet to be determined).
      Level 3 also house the coal loader branch line, serving level 1 Port Kembla steelworks..which will have a number of other industries including: fuel depot, slab loader, coil loader and a number of maintenance facilities..cheers

    a quick question for you jason, what happens when you run 42200 + passenger cars what happens when it gets to the bottom station? my idea would be to join it to the run around and then it would make the passenger also have a continuous run-around like the top.....cheers

    • @JasonWood_Escarpment
      @JasonWood_Escarpment  2 года назад

      Hi g b, great question and the funny thing was that I was only looking at this yesterday. Initially once pulled into the terminal station, I was going to have another loco on standby to do the return trip, as Port Kembla will have a number of locos in service on site. But as you mentioned, yesterday I was looking at whether I could put some points in to service a run around track..verdict is still out on that one. Only as the track next to the station line is part of the north yards - maybe it could be shared on shorter rakes of stored wagons?? Thanks for question and idea!

    I'm planning on doing a three level layout. I wanted to ask you how the heights of your levels have worked for you? Is the lower level high enough off the floor for your liking and is the top level too high or is everything at perfect heights for having the layout be three levels? Awesome video. 👍

    • @JasonWood_Escarpment
      @JasonWood_Escarpment  2 года назад +1

      Hi William, interesting question. For me I'm happy with my heights to give me enough room for the scenery that I want. Top level is custom to match my height. At the end if the day, it is a personal choice to suit your own needs. Some may say the first level is too low but to each there own..regards
