Hi all, thanks again for watching. I think I might have got the year 2023 and 2022 muddled up a couple times, but I’m sure you can work out what I mean (I finished my flight training March 2022 and started for my airline November 2022) 😂 if you have any questions let me know!
this video is incredibly helpful for me, a 15 year old who was looking at my options and thinking about joining leading edge aviation. That is a definite yes for me in the future.
Which school did you attend. How long did it take you to get a job after finishing school. What was the time period between applying to an airline and actually working for them?

I Recently began as first officer at a major US airline.. it’s great to see more of us younger guys and gals succeeding. While most where out partying or enjoying their teens, we where studying and oriented to what we wanted to do, which was fly. To anyone that thinks your too young to start, don’t, Begin flying as soon as you know it’s what you want to do! Blue skies brother, much love from the states.
21 and an airline pilot is amazing! You really did well! 1000x congrats to you, I hope to do well like you wish me luck. Next year I start flight school
Im 17 and working as an aircraft mechanic, currently starting my flight lessons to get my PPL and wanting to become a commercial pilot. I cant imagine myself doing anything else! thanks for posting this video and showing that with a touch of hard work and perseverance its not impossible!
I am thankful and inspired by this video. As person who is the exact same age as you and also has aspirations of becoming a pilot, I believe that this video will change me forever with the amount of insights and details given. And the fact that you put your all into your flight school to get to the current position you're in makes me proud of you and also lights up a fire inside me to actually achieve the same dream as everyone else.
i know the video is a year old maybe older but genuinely thank you for this video, no airline pilot ever tells people the story of exactly specifically how they went from nothing to everything i want to be (airline pilot) and have always been. the information disclosed here has been completely unmatched even from my own family members who are living my dream. really grateful for it i hope to be like you one day truly an inspiration
Congrats!! This video gave me even more inspiration to try harder to do anything to become a pilot. I'm right now at an university while doing my PPL licence and ground handling at an airport as a student job, so I really can't wait to get the ATPL and start flying airliners.

Did 9 jet type ratings and thankfully only ever had shutdowns in the sim! Retired now but still pottering around in my Cub in South Africa. Enjoy every moment, take care.😊
Hi! I'm 15 yrs old, I've already flown a plane a few times, basic turns, holding altitude in turns, descending, climbing, assisted take-off and flew an approach to get the aircraft at the correct airspeed and position to land! My dream is to be an airline pilot and this video really helps me, it gives inspiration and an insight to the industry. I know a TUI captain and senior cabin manager so i can get help from them too! See you in the skies!
Good luck for the future, I am a 63 year old bloke ( I had an intense fear of flying with claustrophobia until I was 45 ...but conquered it through studying it from the ground up so I could understand why and how it is safe ) who isn't a pilot but is fascinated by flying. I hope every pilot has your attitude and outlook, you did well to not let COVID knock you off course. Cheers Ian.
I’m been wanting to become a pilot for a year now I have more aviation knowledge than I’d ever think I’d have this video is an inspiration for me thank you. :)
Wow, this was so motivational. I'm out of high school and pursuing my ATPL at an ATO. The social pressure of not going to college weighed on me heavily because all of my peers were taking that route. All I ever wanted to do is become a pilot like you, and I can see that I'm not the only one!
What an impressive young man. Just shows what can be done with dedication and not following the herd to uni to do a pointless degree for 60k. Brilliant to see someone your age with such a work ethic and dedication. Your parents must be bursting with pride and rightly so. Bravo.
Im 14 and an air cadet right now, so glad i saw this video man. Hopefully i make it in my dream career eith this advice and if i can ill come back letting you guys know whats happening in a couple of years. Thanks bro

I don't have an exact career path, but just have an interest in computers and aviation, and could go either way, but a job within IT has been the more realistic goal. This video has inspired me to pursue more aviation based careers, even if it just helps me become a private pilot.

Plus how do i get money to have during flight school and do you get food or something. Later on what are the chances of even getting a job. I thought of working till like 21 and saving up at least £60-70k and then getting a loan.
Turning 18 in January. Just got my private and working on my IFR now. Have been wondering what to do for the next few years and what my path should be. This video helped a ton.
Are you a time traveller, "I started my type rating on the A320 in November 2023"... today its only July 2023 ... You have amazing enthusiasm - congrats on your position. I am nearing retirement and enjoyed a 40 year career.
Wow, in the airlines at 21 that's impresive mate! Good advice about going into aviation field job if you can, you might find out this job's schedule is not for you, I'm a purser working hard on my atpl, hope to see myself in the close future on the other side of the metallic door!
Very inspiring video young man. I wanted to be a commercial pilot since I was 11. I flew to Canada in the cockpit of a Lockheed Tristar the entire way! I had my PPL at 19 and was well on my way to reaching my dream. Sadly money became a huge issue and then life got in the way. I’m 50 years old and missed my window. I wish all those trying to become a pilot as a profession the very best. It’s a lot of work and a lot of money, but with determination and a little luck you can make it.
Ive managed to get a job as cabin crew with Qatar airways to help save and gain valuable airline experience, another 2 years and I should be able to start flight training. I just need to choose where I want to go. Leading edge looked promising at the OD but I hear mixed reviews about them going into the future
For me, I got the most random discovery flight and that is really what set it for me. It wasn’t exactly a conventional discovery flight but I got to see the job firsthand. It marked me so much it was a click in my head and I just knew I had to go for it. So go take a discovery flight, really, it’s the best thing you can do
Well done mate. I finished my training in May. I have just started work as a ramp agent at Stansted - the same mindset you had post-graduation. I hope to see you up in the air soon!
I am leaving this comment here and I will probably come back to see it again when I am a pilot.🙂👨✈️ I am 19 and I have moved to Germany since 1 year. I have been asking my school teachers quite a lot about how can I become a pilot but the only answer I get is that IT'S DIFFICULT FOR YOU. I think you gave me the best idea about how to start the journey like working as Cabin Crew. Thank you so much.
I'm currently studying for my ATPL in an integrated course in Sweden and just completed my first 6 subjects all in one sitting which I'm very proud of and now I've started my flying and I'm absolutely loving it. I'm currently 20 yo and I should be done before the end of next year and I'm hoping (since my flight school has a couple of partners) to be hired as soon as I finish my training. If everything goes as expected I should also be an airline pilot at 21 hahah
I went to an open day at Leading Edge and was so impressed with their campus. I'm 27 and need to save up some more yet, but ive heard from sources that they are struggling financially which I hope is not true as this is the school I want to do my training with. Fab video with some much needed info ! thanks
Enthusiasm and dedication and a passion to fly. Clearly visible. I'd employ you. Imagine all career professionals being like this. Most are not. Interesting video.
Frfr lol aint no way a 16-18 yo saves up that much. Obviously fully funded by parents or family members... nothing wrong with that but he definitely wasn't transparent regarding his funding.
I'm starting next my piloting course in a bit after finishing college earlier this year. The reality is that you can only afford it based on your parents at this age. £120,000 is quite on the cheap side, though. It's about £140,000~£150,000 now, unfortunately.
Well he obviously avoided the part that 90% of people want to know lol, he said he worked 6 months to save money? It's literally impossible to save around 100k at his age, he obviously got funded by his family which is okay but to me, not being honest and transaparent about it is a red flag or at very least he doesn't feel confortable mentioning it. I'm sorry but is very different to meet a pilot that made it from zero with almost no help of anybody than a pilot that got turbo funded by his parents, you will quickly see the difference of mind. Still Oli shows real dedication, ambition and many positive traits which is amazing but he has been lucky when it comes to get his funding, that's what stops most of aspiring pilots. He doesn't realize that working a normal job, office, cabin crew or whatever will require years and years of savings to pay the flight school.
How did you pay for the training? I am currently a student pilot (PPL 21 hours) working as a ground handler at Heathrow, and slowly saving us with the intention of doing modular pay as u go and using bristol ground school for ATPL etc. but I dont understand where all these pilots get 100 grand for cos yes they (save up for abit) but i cant understand how anyone saves 100 grand in a year or so. I cant get my parents to remorgage the house either, and loans are looking unlikely
I was able to pay for ATP flight school via a Loan, they gave me $128,000. The program is $103,000 but I requested extra for DPE’s/Exams and monthly expenses. Even though it’s a high cost, It GREATLY pays off. I plan to have it paid off in 6 years even though it’s a 15 year loan. Most ATP graduates pay off their loan sooner, I just say 6 years to stay on the safe side of things.
@@Pilot_Ty but how do u get a loan like that? Did u put a property down cos otherwise how does the bank knows they will get their money back if u can't pay it
@@captain_r0g3r58 I did not put property down nor did I have a co-signer! I believe they only took my credit score and approved me based of that alone. When I applied I only had a job that made about $37k annually or about $18 an hour. My credit score at the time of application was 770. It was through Sallie Mae. I won’t assume full payments until 17 months after graduation from ATP.
Congrats Oli great video . I was you in 1972 on my 21st birthday did a trip to Vienna as 2nd officer on a DC 8 with a WWII Lancaster pilot at Air Canada . Do up your seat belt over next 40 years you will have adventures of a life time work with some great pilots who will help you sharpen your flying skills and from the old guys the most important decisions making skills . Loved every minute of my 39 years and with luck you will too
I remember my first flight in a c172 at DeKalb Peachtree airfield in Atlanta, the instructor let me handle the take off on the first lesson based on my performance in the simulator before the flight. Everything I was feeling from taxi from the flight school to the moment the ground started to disappear from the corner of my eyes… everything I was feeling in those few minutes took me about 2 hours to explain to my very loving new love 🖤 that feeling is the most exhilarating moment of my life… not many things come close to pulling the nose up of any airplane and taking to the air. I’ll find my way to the left seat someday, somehow.
Did my exams during covid too, all 14 of them, for the most part it was okay doing it via zoom meetings however subjects like flight planning and performance we a bit troublesome especially when the CRP5 was involved. For exams I failed a few but I wasn't taking them too seriously at the start and so it took a year and 4 months. By the end I was passing with 90%+ in the exams even doing Rnav, AGK and instruments in 12 minutes, 8 minutes and 6 minutes respectively. You learn a lot about yourself when doing the exams, the highs and lows and the strugglebus. Now I'm in Ireland finishing the flying portion but I have only a year left validity on the exams. It was great to see how many different people were doing the exams and how people helped eachother during the studying. I was one of the youngest in the class at the time being 21 when starting the exams, the oldest we had I believer was a 65 year old.
Amazing story! Thanks for sharing. I was just 18 starting ground school, matured a lot over that time and learnt a lot about myself! Good luck for the rest of your training!
Thank you for this video! It's a good way for me to see what it's like to go to flight school right after school, as that's the way I'm planning to do! :)
Thanks for this video it was very inspiring Ive been thinking of becoming a pilot and the main problem I am facing is the costs but I really hope I can make it like you did cheers !
as a 13 year old teen who has dreams of being a B777 pilot, i have a local small airport 10 minut es from my house, Waterford Airport, my parents bought me 30MINS flight lesson for 150EURO so i can learn how to fly a little bit but i have to wait until i will be 14 years old, i cannot wait!
OLLY I have got to say this video is the most informative video and it's so helpful, it's given me ABIT more of an idea about what I want to do before going to collage and doing a aviation degree. Thank you so much and hope to cross paths one day 🫡
Hi could you give an idea of what gcses results you had ive got modtly bs so far i love physics and maths although not algebra could you help by giving me some tips for what gcse grade i should aim for thanks
Congrats matey for fulfilling a dream of mine. My parents were willing to remortgage their house to put me through training. I had flying lessons from age 12-16; in C150s amd the 170 and PA28 as a treat (they would cost an extra 40 quid an hour to have lessons in) at 16 my parents became bankrupt but also just prior to that found out that my eyesight is no where near good enough to even achieve a CPL. This isn't a pity party for me, I accept my fate now I'm in my 30s. This is more some encouragement for you, because whenever you have bad days, feel negative which everyone does from time to time. Just remember what a privilege it is to be able to fly. It's only recently though that I've realised that it's not actually flying that interests me; it actually makes me nervous; it's the aircraft and all its systems, life support and structure etc which really invigorates me when I learn further about them! All the best Oli! edit: I just watched that you got your trial flight aged 12 too haha. I saved up my Xmas money to get mine from Argos in 1999 for 100quid at the time haha.
@@mccarey5932 You can wear glasses as a pilot, there's just certain eye conditions which prevent being able to gain a class 1 medical certificate. When I was 17 I had tiny white specs in my eyes (not noticeable to me), kinda like cataracts, which can cause all soerts of issues such as small blind spots. But within reason, glasses to correct distorted eye lenses is totaly fine. Good question though.
This was amazing man! Thank you for sharing your experience! Ive been researching for a few days now and stumbled across this video! And its brilliant and aspiring! I did get confused at the 2023 bit 🤣 but a grand video!
Hey bro, amazing video with so much insight. I just wondered if you could make a video going into detail about your school results and grades? Thank you very much!
I have one question, if you finish at a normal school can you just go straight to flight school at the age of 18 or do you need to go to those Air cadets schools? I’m 14 and I just wanna fly an A350 for Delta, but I’m not sure if I can just go to flight school after graduating from normal schools.
hey, thank you for posting this its helps so much. I'm currently 17 and still need to complete my a levels however would like to be prepared even before I apply for a flight school. is there any chance you could show us what the tests themselves look like and what we should expect.
Hi! Thanks for sharing this, its really inspiring. I'm currently 17 in the US, and I feel like what you said at 4:56 is quite literally what i'm thinking right now. While all my friends are thinking about universities, I want to do flight school, which is just as expensive. Going to Uni and a flight school would be so much more expensive, and money isn't something my family has. But i've also seen online that having a degree is what you should really do, as a bounce back in case being a pilot doesn't work out for any reason, and also the fact that airlines tend to prefer people with degrees (I'm guessing your work experience helped out alot) Now i'm just stuck contemplating about what I should do while juggling a ton of homework lol. What do you think? Should I just take a leap of faith and devote my life to being a pilot like you did? Thanks.
@@PilotOliwhat degree is included in the cost of pilot training and how did u pay for your training was it all you or parents or was it like a loan. I’m an aspiring pilot aged 15 :)
I am in air cadets too and my squadron in Scotland offers a flying scholarship which does half of your private pilots license for free and I was wondering if you took that too?
Thanks for the video. I'm starting lessons as a teen, in the Warrier III. I hope to one day fly the 737, because it's my favorite airliner. Awesome video. BTW, what did you train in?

I went to an open day at Leading Edge and was so impressed with their campus. I'm 27 and need to save up some more yet, but ive heard from sources that they are struggling financially which I hope is not true as this is the school I want to do my training with.
Fab video with some much needed info ! thanks
Do you need to do your a levels because many people have told me different things and im not sure what to do
Great video bud, love hearing different peoples journeys
Always happy landings! Congrats! 🎉
Enthusiasm and dedication and a passion to fly. Clearly visible. I'd employ you.
Imagine all career professionals being like this. Most are not.
Interesting video.
Your an inspiration man! Gave me some crazy motivation. So happy for you man, well done❤️
Hopefully gonna start flight lessons soon. Thanks for sharing your story and advice.
Glad to help! Enjoy
Why is there no section about actually affording £120k of training? It doesn't just land in your lap.
Frfr lol aint no way a 16-18 yo saves up that much. Obviously fully funded by parents or family members... nothing wrong with that but he definitely wasn't transparent regarding his funding.
Just commented the same thing! He makes it sound easy, but how many people can afford £100k+ to do the flight training?!
@@Weaselszone its not worth it financially as pilots are not paid well at all in the uk lol.
Fr
Ofc he has. Pilot is not for poor people.
Started taking flight lessons at 15 and I love it I can’t wait to get my private license
Thank you so much for talking about this, I’m going to some open days in the next few months and I’m pretty excited to check out these flight schools
You are living the dream of many. Congrats!
Thanks!
Loved every minute of my 39 years and with luck you will too
Great content Oli. Living the dream!!! All your hard work is paying off.. well done! subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
I have been watching your video since day 1 and been waiting for this video. Thank you for sharing your experience and advice.
Wow that’s amazing! Thank you for the support!
amazing video you are an insparation! just because of you i joined air cadets and emailed my local airflied thanks!!!
That is awesome! Best of luck!
Congratulations, ive been thinking about doing the generation easyjet programme at CAE
Congrats for ur achievements!!!🔥
Big love from Germany
Great video, congratulations on achieving your dream!
Thank you so much!
Thanks bro, your really an inspiration
Thank you for this video! It's a good way for me to see what it's like to go to flight school right after school, as that's the way I'm planning to do! :)
Could you please expand more on financing ? How exactly did you finance your training ? What about the type rating financing ?
His parents financed it basically
You are such an inspiration for me! Thank you so much
thank you , searching pilot careers live now 😍
You legend, Earned a sub!
Very kind! Thank you
Thanks for this video it was very inspiring Ive been thinking of becoming a pilot and the main problem I am facing is the costs but I really hope I can make it like you did cheers !
as a 13 year old teen who has dreams of being a B777 pilot, i have a local small airport 10 minut

Loved the video! Currently doing my PPL:)
Good luck!!
Congratulations. New subscriber here just came across your channel.
Appreciate it! Hoping to release some more videos this summer so stay tuned!
OLLY I have got to say this video is the most informative video and it's so helpful, it's given me ABIT more of an idea about what I want to do before going to collage and doing a aviation degree. Thank you so much and hope to cross paths one day 🫡
u are living my dream when i was like 8-9 years
great stuff. Any a320 videos upcoming???
Unfortunately I’m not allowed to record whilst in flight. But will try do my best to get good content coming soon!
I am 13, in a glider club and looking forward to a flight school to get my PPL
Hi could you give an idea of what gcses results you had ive got modtly bs so far i love physics and maths although not algebra could you help by giving me some tips for what gcse grade i should aim for thanks
fair play well done mate
Wow what a story! Truly touching. Thank you for sharing
Can you not wear glasses as a pilot?
@@PilotOli No problem at all, all the best in your career!
I'm 19 got selected into a flight school in india. Waiting for my ground classes to start at "VOTV".❤
Good luck!
This was amazing man! Thank you for sharing your experience! Ive been researching for a few days now and stumbled across this video! And its brilliant and aspiring! I did get confused at the 2023 bit 🤣 but a grand video!
Definitely gonna check out your line training video! :)
Glad it was helpful!
What airline do you work for? Great job on your career, keep it up!
You can go straight to flight school here in the UK, not sure about the states
@@PilotOli currently I’m living in Spain, so I don’t know if I should go to flight school in the US or in Spain. Thanks for the help
Wow, nice work!
I applied for cabin crew roles with ryanair but no one got back to me so becoming a flight attendant before starting flying lessons aint easy
That’s very odd. Keep trying, send follow up emails, and even reapply
@@PilotOli YESSSS
hey, thank you for posting this its helps so much. I'm currently 17 and still need to complete my a levels however would like to be prepared even before I apply for a flight school. is there any chance you could show us what the tests themselves look like and what we should expect.
Watch my video how to become an airline pilot. Got details about the interview in there
Thanks.
In the UK, I was able to do a degree at the same time as my flight training. It’s included in the cost of the course. Anything like that on the US?
@@PilotOliwhat degree is included in the cost of pilot training and how did u pay for your training was it all you or parents or was it like a loan.
I’m an aspiring pilot aged 15 :)
I’m 13 and leaving my comment here
I’ll text back when I’m a pilot
I am in air cadets too and my squadron in Scotland offers a flying scholarship which does half of your private pilots license for free and I was wondering if you took that too?
I did not but that’s very cool!
Very inspiring for any young pilot enthusiasts.😊
Great video man
Hi pilot oli. Which airline do u work for now. Honestly u inspired me a lot
Thanks for the video. I'm starting lessons as a teen, in the Warrier III. I hope to one day fly the 737, because it's my favorite airliner. Awesome video. BTW, what did you train in?
Thanks for the comment, best of luck! I trained in DA42s and DA40s. Loads of videos on my channel flying them
@@PilotOli awesome! Great luck in the A320 to you! It’s a beast!
Hi. What work exprrience exactly did you do in the Maltese airport and is there any way you could explain who to contact to get this work experience? Thanks.
Missed your videos!
