Congrats to Steinberg ror making a first step in the right direction, supporting the Ipad, unlike Arturia or Native Instruments or Ableton. When will I be able to run my desktop V9 collection on my Ipad? It’s not that difficult to port to M1 chip support… or my NI libraries. It’s all about the money. I am going to test HALion’s stability to see how well it runs live on 16/32 channels compositions, layers and splits, then I will give it my full support and blessings.
Yep. I have two Arturia MIDI controllers and when I look at Arturia's "tutorials" they seem more like ads to me. Then there is no mention of anything that is for iPad, only for PC and Mac, which they simply call a "computer," as if PCs and Macs are the only computers in existence.
@@GaryR55 you can use them with the ipad but not “oficially”. You can map the controls with AUM but it is a shame we can not use our licenses on an ipad, which is more than capable to handle the vsts. I have a keystep 32 and an older keylab for when I am on the road.
@@doubleohdutch2108 I have the Keystep 37 and the Minilab 3. They do work fine with my iPad, but I have always needed third party tutorials on RUclips, as Arturia's documentation doesn't even mention iPads.
@@doubleohdutch2108 Not so sure about iPads and VSTs, though. When I was using Acoustica Mixcraft on a Windows PC, I used VSTs all the time. But, I think the many apps for iPad that essentially do the same things are the iPad equivalent of VSTs. I plan on getting a Macbook Air soon, for use with my three USB external storage drives, but also for music, probably via Garageband and Cubase Artist 13, which can share files with the iPad versions of Garageband and Cubasis.
@@GaryR55 The problem with that setup is having to depend on external storage, which is ok for a studio but not ideal for gigging. An ipad lacks connectivity too, I still have to depend on hubs, but at least I have a Tb of storage and a M1 chip, and the added value of a touchscreen.
These sound great, I'm contemplating getting it. Do you know how large the full library is? Also, if you transfer a Cubasis project to Cubase would these Halion Sonic sounds tranfer as well, rather than as bounced audio files? Thanks!
Hi @jamescurtis, HALion Sonic Selection is a 1.8 GB download. Via the updated Cubasis Project Improper it is possible to open your Cubasis projects with Cubase, where desktop instruments derivates are automatically loaded when available. Hope that helps!
@@MobileAppsSteinberg Thanks for the quick response. 1.8GB is not bad at all for the amount of presets (of which they are high quality) in my opinion! Hi Jakob. Thanks for announcing it. I've been aware of it for a few years. Take Rebirth for example. Take care of old iPad or iPhone without updating them and use them as synths and store them. It's incredibly cool even with an old iPad 3 plugged into the mixing desk or an iPhone 5se as an extra as it still works but requires a bit of sampling without sync, but it's just cool.Buttom Line keep your old gear👍
I bought them as I found them and this vid justifies me. Btw I got my UR22C today through Amazon and it just worked nicely with my 2016 MacBook Pro and Cubase 11 and Logic, Live and Reason. Cool outlook is an added pleasure. I also upgraded Absolute from 4 to 6. Have a merry Christmas everyone.
Awesome Update,..Sounds like I can actually delete some of these extra synth apps I’ve accumulated over the years ,.( sucking the soul out of my I-pad ), and use more of the built in sounds . The sound quality has caught up with what Im looking for. Great job with demonstrating the detail.

@@MobileAppsSteinberg That would be great because I work in the field of electronic music and there are simply too few bass presets there is too little reese bass ect. …
The drum kit sounds of Cubasis Halion Sonic Selection only play as long as you press down a key. That makes finger drumming for inputting a beat impossibke. Is there a way to set the drum sounds so they play in full length once triggered? As they do on every keyboard or workstation I know.
I'm genuinely excited about this 👀 By the way, on 2:15, there are also 2 knobs you didn't mention, the "mw vib speed" and "mw vib amnt". Can you explain what they do, please? I tried googling, but I didn't find much info on that. I suppose they're somehow related to vibrato, but I honestly can't hear the difference when I play around with them. Edit: Ok, I found what it does. My guess about vibrato was right, but for it to take effect, I had to use MOD wheel, which I usually hide and don't use manually. Looking back at it, it's kinda obvious, since the first 2 letters of their names start with "mw". But hey, I was a little bit sleepy, don't blame me :P
HALion Sonic Selection includes a few dedicated key switch presets. Once a preset has been chosen, the lower keys that allow to switch to a different color set are coloured accordingly.
The great thing is: You can give Dom a keyboard with just a few keys on it, an old iPad or whatever... and he will always capture magical stuff with it...

If you have an AKAI or any other controller with Pads then a clever way of doing this would be to assign the VX key switches to the pads (every midi keyboard allows you to change the pitch -e.g. C1, C#1, D1 etc-of the pads), it works brilliantly and is the way I work all the time when I’m mobile ;)
We need Kontakt for iPads, with the power these new M4 iPads have its ridiculous we don’t have Kontakt for iPad OS (Natives fault not Steinberg obviously) I think when my iPads finally give up the ghost I’m going with a new Microsoft Surface Snapdragon + co-pilot (or whatever’s newest then) and then run Cubase and Kontakt.

Then up top is a stretch function that if you select -Auto - it will sync to the tempo and you can speed up, and slow down , with your song .… ( just trying to help) 👍
That would have made the price going up by tenfold. At least Steinberg made a first step, unlike Ableton, Arturia or Native Instruments, all of them huge letdowns by not supporting the Ipad. Must be some sort of complot. I bought an ipad pro for a reason, i will NOT buy an airbook or laptop if my ipad cost me way more than that. On the other hand, we have logic pro but, where is the vst support for that?
Agreed. I think that, eventually, physical modeling will become the way things go. For now, though, it's cheaper to just record a bunch of samples. The SWAM instruments give the musician such a range of control, though, that would have to be covered by a whole library of samples, just for each instrument. The sound of any of the SWAM instruments is highly variable and expressive and hardly takes up any space at all when compared to samples. I can always tell the difference by the sound, too.
Do you think creating modeled instruments is like clicking a record button and then putting them into an app? It requires a lot of people and a ton of research, and this translate in a much higher price for the final product. Sure modeling is better but it's something completely different and not easy at all like having a soundbank.
I bet they are samples so disk space is a worry. Companies that are making apps for iPad/Mobile need to rethink this. Audio modeling is the best way to go for mobile me thinks.
