@@minxiangwang1850 NICEEEE! Best of luck Minxiang and let me know how it goes :). I hope you get asked ALL the questions I made videos for so I know you will pass them :)
I truly wish I had seen the video three years ago before my interviews with Google and Dell. >< Thank you for the amazing video you made to help out. Love!
Hi jeff, quick question, when answering interview questions, do you normally speak with such high levels of fluency (like the example answer segment of the video), if so, could you possibly share any tips that could assist in fostering such fluency when reciting an answer. May I also ask if you memorise the answers as prep for the interview or do you improvise the answer on the spot? (at least for typical interview qns and not special, tough ones and situational ones) PS loving the content so far, keep it up bro!
Hi Timed Stingray - This is a really good question. So I'm a firm believer of hardwork (I don't think I'm very smart) so when I was first prepping for interviews back in the day, I would literally memorize the answer and repeat it word-for-word. BUT as I soon found out, it comes off as very robotic. So when I practiced (in front of a mirror), I would simply only memorize 1-2 sentences for each part of CARL, then add in "spoken slangs" like "perhaps" "Ah of course" "Sure that sounds awesome" etc. Does that make sense? I even sometimes would pause or say "um" on purpose to make it sound more natural. Since I've been working for a while now and very very familiar with interviews (I interview others as well), I would write down the structure for my answers in these videos and adjust slightly as needed :). Hope this answers your question?
@@JeffSu - One more benefit to the result section of this example, you were able to continue building relationship. This is non tangible value but very critical in orgs
Great video, but I don't like 2 things about particularly this example: 1. It's way too long, and involves too many details 2. The learnings you mentioned might look controversial. It sounds like you were not the person who handled the situation, but the manager
Jeff thank you very for these amazing, informational videos. No matter what stage you are in your career. These are golden, keep up the great content 😊🙏🏻
interviewer: tell me a time you handled a difficult situation me (in shaking voice): good question... whenever I start feeling nervous in a job interview, I just put on my fake glasses to channel that JS energy
Great video and editing as always, Jeff! :D Just one thing I think I should point out though! While there is a widespread cultural understanding of the concept of “face” (3:05) in Chinese and other Asian cultures, I’m not sure Westerners would have the same familiarity with this concept 🤔 I guess my suggestion would be to avoid using certain jargon that isn’t common knowledge? 😅
Thank you Andrea! Good catch on that - That makes a lot of sense. I think moving forward I'm going to have to be more mindful of cultural references when making a point. Great suggestion! Hope classes are going well!
Thank you for this. I received this question in one of my recent interviews and thought I had answered it properly with an experience of an example inner team conflict. It may have not been the best example. 🤔
I have a question here. Is the questions how do you handle a difficult situation vs how do you handle a conflict? I would imagine these two questions seem different. FYI, I clicked the like button 6 times.
So a conflict can be a subset of a difficult situation, so technically while those two questions are different, the approach is almost similar 😁 By the way clicking it 6 times means you still didn't like it 😭
Hey Jeff, I loved the tips. Could you tell me applying for a Jr.Web Developer position without much experience in the job market, what would be an idea answer? Thanks (:
Hi Gabriela, thanks for the comment and question! If you're a fresh grad I'd definitely talk about any school projects where you dealt with difficult teammates (or even a difficult professor), the same tips apply, best of luck! 😁
Can a difficult situation be technical? Like for a programmer they can have difficult tasks that they had to do a lot of research on and discuss with the team (no conflict). Does that qualify as an answer to this question?
The short answer is "yes" but the way this question is phrased - handled a situation - suggests that the interviewer might be looking for something a bit more complex that a technical issue (i.e. human interaction and conflict)
I don’t get why Asian dudes tend to throw a “humor” dubbed with their appearance boost line lol. 😅 I’m Asian too though not Chinese, this is like 5th time a dude throws a look boosting line dubbed as humor. Like last time when I said “sorry we had to meet this way you’re a nice guy”. And this was a serious topic. Then he said “nice and cute ;)”…insecurities of some sort is it?? I didn’t get this at all. I’m an Asian female, and he was Chinese American not in his home country but in my home country. I don’t get Asian dudes though I’m Asian myself only except I’m female.
