Turn the key on and wait for 10 minutes, watch the security light, when it goes off turn the key to the off position, wait 5 seconds then turn the key back on for 10 minutes, wait for the security light to go off before you turn the key off, do this 3 times and your car should start after the 3rd time.

Same happened to me when I used the spare key one time turn the key to on for ten minutes then turn off car for five seconds then turn back to on repeat 3 times then the car will start I've never had any issue with it since my 2011 Impala has been great haven't had any issues with it but have heard alot of bad problems with them

I lost my only key to a 2013 impala and had a new one cut from code (85 bucks). I did the 30 minute program process many times thinking I was doing it wrong, that on/off 30 minute process. The key was starting the car after the first program process but I had that "Service Theft System" message and indicator still showing.
I tried so many things I found on the internet and the last thing I found and tried, weeks later was to disconnect the battery.
So I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes and mine cleared out the message.
I was just worried that later down the road the car would shut off if I didn't get the message to go away.
One other weird thing was I found the old key I had lost in the middle of this mess but was told the old key would no longer work after programing the new key with that 30 minute process, but now the new and old key works, I can only assume that I had done the program process so many times with both keys when I was trying it so many times in desperation and I must of had programmed them both.

when your turn key to on position, headlights turn on(for 10 minutes, twice) hence battery saver mode.. your can turn off lights by just turning headlight knob to left then letting it go & it springs back to where it was & lights off. when you did that 5 second thing, that was more then 5 seconds & you only did it 3 1/2 cycles, like on off on, as opposed to 3 full cycles.

I just fixed my car from this problem a 13 Malibu its the newer model after ur model so idk how similar they are under the hood , but unfortunately they have multiple reasons as to why the theft service system could be triggered for me it was as simple as buying a new battery if ur battery is faulty it will set it off because of the quick changes in voltage which will set off the alarm or theft system. My battery seemed fine but would drop to 8 volts under the load of starting the car bought a new battery and it’s gone and back in business I hope this is the case for u 2 bud 🤙🏽.

I'm having this problem with my car was really hoping a reset would do it somehow and not a new battery but sounds like I might now .

  • @TheRelaxn

have you tried turning the alam off? turn key to on position- hold tune/dsply until menu comes up-use seek to change setting selection until ALARM is displayed-use the required key (not sure on that year car) to change to ALARM OFF-hit tune/dsply to exit settings-leave key in on position for 10 min (until the power shuts off) the alarm (passlock system) is now off & shouldn' keep the car from starting

@kerrybriggs1128 probably a speed sensor. Need a advanced scan tool to read live data to see what the pcm sees. If it has a glitch in it it'll disable the traction control and stability track😊

I’m in the same position. I did the process twice and yet again, nothing. I have a 2014 Chevy Impala limited. My car starts with the message, but I did just replace a dead battery with a new one and I’ve tried to disconnect the new battery to see if it resets and it didn’t. Please help
