If you only watch the intros of these videos it's the story of a bartender cursed by a witch, and every drink he tries to make turns into an old fashioned.
As someone who makes bath bombs, here's a simple hack to avoid activating the citric acid and baking soda prematurely. Mix the wet ingredients into the baking soda first and combine with citric acid last. Less activation during mixing means more fizz in the final product. :)
Hey Greg, how are you doing? Have you ever heard of Call Of Duty Black Ops Zombies? There's a drink called JuggerNog. I would love to see a video about COD drinks. Keep the good content!! Hugs from Brazil.
My kid loves bath bombs (he gets the ones with pokemon toys in the middle) and kinetic sand, and I like booze, so this video is spot on. Thanks greg for being awesome. Wish i saw this when it was first posted, but maybe for this year we'll try this.
We're totally going to try this for New Year's! I'd caution however against having too many of these in one sitting. Each bomb will have about 3/4 oz of baking soda. Which in larger quantity can cause vomiting and diarrhea...
There should be no baking soda left when the reaction is balanced properly. The end result should just be additional water in the drink, CO2 and sodium citrate which is the "salt" of citric acid. It is still sour and is apparently a food additive so reasonably safe to consume. If done right you should only have to worry about the alcohol content for refills. So cheers!
Instead of just dumping your liquids in, put them in your spray mister and mist/mix until you get the right consistency. It'll knock down the reactions you're getting creating the balls. 😊
Suggestions: Substitute the granular white sugar, with confectioner's sugar, as that will dissolve into the drink better. When mixing, drop your liquids into the bowl first, then hit it with the sugar, and then the rest of the ingredients, adding the baking soda last, in order to prevent excessive reaction.
Crystal light and the others already have some citric acid in there, so you’d have to adjust the recipe a bit. I’ve made regular bath bombs before, and water alone will work to bind them. I think this would be really cool with some blue butterfly pea flower in there, since it would also change color when added to an acid like lemonade.
@@mini5701 idk, but I took it as a play on the old phrase "absence makes the heart grow fonder" which was the old wisdom that spouses love each other the less they see each other.

Bear in mind that some of the citric acid you add will react with spirits, specifically ethanol to form Triethyl citrate which is also known as E-1505 and used as a food safe plasticizer for making foams etc (a stabilizer basically). It won't harm you but im pretty sure but worth knowing as it might decrease the ABV of your drink.

I could see this working nicely in a 4th of July themed cocktail too. Maybe have a colored ball inside a white ball so it sprays out colors as it dissolves. Or a lemon drop cocktail that has the lemon flavoring in a ball that you drop into the glass. There are a lot of possibilities here.
These drink bombs should work well, with perhaps some change in flavoring, in apple juice for a kid friendly version. In straight water I'm thinking almost a fizzy tang drink.

I tested this tonight, in anticipation of NYE. I must confess that I omitted the sprig of rosemary, since it was just a proof of concept. I used a scale and combined the reagents in exactly the prescribed proportions, and formed the drink bombs with two hemispherical measuring spoons (they came out nice and round, like balls are supposed to be 😜) I dropped my prepared drink bomb into my waiting glass of gin+wine, and it began fizzing after a moment. All good. HOWEVER, when I took a sip, the taste/mouthfeel was akin to the bowel prep used the night before a colonoscopy (pm me for details on how I know this, if you must). Any ideas on what I did wrong? I checked the drink a moment later after letting it fizz for a bit longer, and the experience was more pronounced. Ick.
I too tried the recipe and feel the same way (2 years late). Still trying to figure out but I’m finding a lot of the taste/texture I don’t desire is the baking soda.

As a bath bomb creator I applaud you and thank you for reinventing a great use for my molds as well as my citric acid! This will be an adventure thank you for this and happy New year to you!
From the title and you talking about drink bombs, I was picturing some sort of water-soluble membrane that holds a shot of liquid, that you can drop into a drink and have it dissolve, thus making it easy to make bomb shots like Jagerbombs, Irish Car Bombs, Sake Bombs, etc. without having to deal with shot glasses falling, breaking, or bonking you on the nose. Of course, dropping the shot glass is part of the presentation so not everyone would go for it, but I feel like it would be a cool alternative with hopefully less hassle.
