  • I've been playing D&D for years and tonight I'm going to stream the first session I've run in a long time, and I'm making some setting appropriate drinks for my players.
Tonight I'm running D&D for the first time in a long time and I'm very excited. A lot of game groups enjoy having something to drink at the table and here I'm making a couple of setting appropriate drinks, one with and one without alcohol. The Tavern Punch draws on punch and tavern traditions of yore, while the Kobold Kooler is a nonalcoholic riff on a silver fizz.
I love Dungeons and Dragons, and TTRPGs in general, I've played quite a few: Vampire: The Masquerade, Wraith: The Oblivion, Demon: The Fallen, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Mage: The Ascension (Mage: The Awakening was also surprisingly good), as well as FATE, WH40KRPG, etc. etc. Mostly though, we played D&D. My first experience with D&D actually happened before I even knew what it was, I got a box of DragonStrike, TSR's answer to Games Workshop's Hero Quest (basically a board game encapsulation of Dungeons and Dragons) and I loved it. But I never played it much beyond its introductory board-game level of play. Later on, in my freshman year of Highschool my friend Mike would introduce me to AD&D 2nd Edition and I was instantly hooked. It was pretty much all I wanted to do.
And now I am again! Tonight at 8:00pm Eastern Time I'll be live streaming D&D at twitch.tv/GregFromHTD
    Tavern Punch
    34oz. or 1L. Scotch Ale
17 oz. or 500 ml. Viking Blod Mead
5 oz. or 120 ml. Oleo Saccharum
2 oz. or 60 ml. Cinnamon Syrup
9 oz. or 250 ml. Orange Juice
    Garnish with Nutmeg
    Tavern Punch (single)
4.25 oz. or 126 ml. Scotch Ale
2 oz. or 60 ml. Viking Blod Mead
.5 oz. or 30 ml. Oleo Saccharum
.25 oz. or 15 ml. Cinnamon Syrup
1 oz. or 30 ml. Orange Juice
    Kobold Kooler
    1 egg white
1 oz. or 30 ml. lemon juice
1 oz. or 30 ml. grenadine
2 oz. or 60 ml. hibiscus tea
    dry shake
    shake again
    double strain
    top with seltzer

      Update on the session:
In the main campaign, my Air Genasi Fighter was chloroformed by a dragon cultist and had a memory of an arena match he saw a decade ago as a one-shot. One of the Fighters was my 6’11”, 375lbs Dragonborn Paladin, Dolri, who moonlights as a Gladiator names Wicked Blue and fights like a foreign wrestling heel.
He was along with my friend’s Tortle Fighter and a Goliath Paladin. So, squad of absolute units.
The arena show ended with the Goliath and I trading Lay On Hands to save each other from death. On 1 HP, my Paladin flanked with the Goliath Paladin, we both cast Thunderous Smite, and with a combo of my Hunter’s Mark, the lightning reverberated and burst a Gelatinous Cube like a speaker overloaded with bass.
As the cube exploded, Dolri acknowledged he was a good guy in Silverymoon, and left having made two new friends.
Meanwhile, Tomera the Air Genasi also got to see a memory of his boyfriend Andrew and the man who later ruined his life. So, FULL NIGHT.

There's a lot of potential inspiration in the various races (think Drow Daiquiri as well) so Iunno, if you'd be interested, might be fun to have another D&D episode 2 years later..?

@@howtodrink It's amazing to DM in 5e. I think I'd prefer to DM 5e than 3.5 tbh. But I do like 3.5 still so... It's hard to say I have a favorite.

@Thaumaturgist 5e is simpler and easier to work with causally, 3.5 and it’s successor, Pathfinder, are more complex and let you do a lot more if you enjoy toying with the systems enough to get into it. They’ve both lasted because they’re both good and appeal to different kinds of players.

I've tried making health and mana potion cocktails before. I know mana potions aren't a D&D thing, but they're still a fixture in fantasy. I remember my mana potions actually came out really good, health potions were just OK. Unfortunately I don't remember either recipe any more. I also tried to make them not just taste good (and strong), but fit the theme. My mana potion was slightly effervescent and I think I used some grapefruit vodka in it to give it the slight tingly/numbing effect grapefruit can have. I also put edible pearl dust in it to make it visually sparkly and magical looking. I tried to make the health potion a bit herbal and medicinal.

We always had a running gag in our games that there was a bar run by an Illithid, and he had a unique, incomparably potent, drink called Fermented Thought. Made especially for Illithids, any typical races that drank it had to make a DC 23 Will save or immediately start experiencing a nightmare scape of a psychoactive trip.

Greg plays 40k confirmed, months after he drops a “They Shall Know No Fear” in the tasting notes!
Give my VIII Legion heart a boon and make a “Lord of Night”? Nostramo did have deep black seas full of lolling eyeless sharks. Great excuse to whip out the squid ink!
Or, as I’ve requested before... Fenrisian Ale would be pretty cool.

I had a tpk thanks to botched rolls once, back when we used the “nat ones damage yourself” house rule.
The first death was a tragedy, the second a frustration, the third a comedy, the fourth hilarious. When the fifth and last party member died by falling off a rickety bridge as he ran from everything we failed to kill before we all agreed it was the best way the game could have ended.
      Good times!

I just started a campaign, my first time DMing. There is a halfling wizard named "Cherries" who sells/hands out potions of healing as if he was sharing a new punch recipe. But right now, we're just taking things kind of casually and its more to assure the players might not die if I accidentally send too BS of an enemy after them because I'm still not 100% sure what I'm doing yet.
