Both of the Marilyn's food/diet videos were so interesting! Came here from someone's IG that referenced them. That garlic bread looks amazing, where is it from?

Joe actually showed up in New York on the actual shoot for Seven Year Itch, to see Marilyn's skirt flying past her undies in front of a huge crowd. He felt humiliated because of the scene. He truly did love her, wanted Hollywood to quit using her, and have her to himself. I've read accounts of physical abuse by Joe. Her makeup man and wardrobe assistant said he hit Marilyn, because makeup was needed to cover bruises. In the end though, he was the one she could count on, and he was the one to give Marilyn the dignity and privacy in arranging her funeral.

Interesting menu, but a bit odd - the garlic bread looks fantastic, along with the tomatoes, you didn't have any of that broccoli, and where is the green leafy salad?? Some fish would have been a great addition as well. Thank You for the info on Marilyn and Joe's first date, hadn't heard any of that before - how about the Brown Derby restaurant menu, and what about The Frolic Room, where the Black Dahlia (Elizabeth Short) spent many evenings, and it's still operating?

I definitely merged modern Mukbang with the Villa Nova restaurant circa 1953. The original menu is more expansive, both southern Italian authentic and also '50s American dishes. I ordered only items, from local restaurants here, that were also on that specific menu somewhere on there!
I keep going back to The Brown Derby too and The Frolic Room...funny you mention it, as I've been studying Thelma Todd even deeper and she frequented The Brown Derby right before she passed. Also am working on a Black Dahlia short film. I was just able to get to LA for a minute and film where Elizabeth Short was found as well as the Sowden House--- wish I had time to cover more places in her story.
The Brown Derby is so kitschy, wonderfully, early Hollywood. Upset they tore it down, along with so many other places that could have survived into this era with some tweaks and updates. In the future, an episode on the Brown Derby would be great--- especially since a few decades of stars & stories intersect there.

@@hiddenhollywood5562 Can't wait for you to do a piece on the Black Dahlia - that is such a tragic mystery! Thelma Todd keeps nagging at me since you did that documentary on her, did you (or anyone) see this on the case:

I didn't expect the meal plan to leave me wishing for spices/other flavors so soon. It seemed more of a Paleo diet to start. But living in the Bay Area with so many incredible restaurants and cuisines, I can't survive off of cottage cheese and canned tomato juice like Marilyn!

    1) I want us to order from here when I visit
    2) I wonder why the owners are saying Mickey Rooney was on a date with her, from everything I’ve read, Mickey basically interrupted their date and Joe just politely nodded and smiled.

My intentions were not to convince the audience Marilyn could not cook or keep house. She mainly didn't have time to devote to this, unfortunately, as what she wanted most was to stop working so often. We know from countless interviews she wanted a close knit family and to be at home surrounded by that love; while keeping house and cooking. I chose these meals because they were either straight from her interviews or her own hand written grocery lists. I couldn't give a perfect example of her eating habits as she is a layered human being, but I felt this best exemplified her average meal in the 1950s-1960s while extremely busy in the height of her career. Hours were spent gathering research for this episode; from newspaper archives, various magazines, or recorded interviews.
