      I wish it would work out that way in a real life convo. But unfortunately, saying this will make the vegan look terrible. Bc the carnist will say something like "that's terrible to say! You know I didn't mean it that way!"

      + *Roxie Whitmire* Then one calmly replies, "How would I know that you don't mean it that way? I assume you are rationally consistent, and if your standard for exploitation is intellectual ability, many humans qualify for exploitation. Don't they? So . . ." This would likely start a more complicated conversation about the perceived value of humans compared to animals, which could end with the other person seeing things differently. Most of us didn't go vegan without challenging our assumptions, right?

      pig flesh is the most similar to human flesh according to tribal people (whose ancestors practiced cannibalism) - that's is why some of them do not eat pigs these days. the pig eaters of today end up looking like pigs (no offence to pigs) but pig-like humans...not what humans should look like.

    • @Dermaa
      @Dermaa 6 лет назад +2

      Suzana Josic your argument is that the animal is innocent and wanted to live?
      In that case should we also stop other animals that are omnivores from eating meat and get them to eat veg only?

    • @suzanajosic9501
      @suzanajosic9501 6 лет назад +3

      Der Panda Don't be stupid. Animals hunt for their food and don't have moral agency. You don't need to eat animals to survive/thrive and you get your flesh from a fucking grocery store. You can't compare yourself to a wild animal that needs to hunt for survival. And yes, ALL animals that are bred, tortured and slaughtered for the animal agriculture industry are innocent.

    • @Dermaa
      @Dermaa 6 лет назад

      Suzana Josic They don't have moral agency, so they are less potential intelligence than any human, why are they any different to say an insect, why is it bad to kill a mammal of similar intelligence to this hypothetical omnivore but it's okay for cockroaches to be exterminated, they're just following they're instincts right, or do you only care about cute animals?
      I don't have to eat meat, but I also don't have to drive, I don't have to live indoors, etc. not having to do something isn't an argument.
      I get my food from the shop, yes, and if any other animal could develop a farming industry then they would as well, and if they thought humans were tasty, and we were as easy to manage as chickens, then they'd eat humans.
      I can't be compared to a wild animal, well I can actually but it would be very unfair for the other animal, being a human and having the intelligence that we do is overpowered.
      All animals are x, y and z, that only works for people who think of another animals life as being equal to a humans.

    Had a debate with a Christian coworker of mine. He asked if a lion tried to kill my friend (a human) who would I choose to save, I said my Friend. So he asked me why would I choose a human over an animal. He asked what the difference was between the two and how could I find justification to save the human. I couldn't really give him an answer. As a vegan I care about animals. It's not that I feel that id choose the animal over my human friend, I just felt like I would have said something hypocritical, as a vegan, to say that I value human life because of this or that reason.

      Paulette Frantz All humans, even the lowest of our species and if not them then their children have the potential to create far more than any other animals ever could, even our primate cousins can't truly compare to us, this is all the more reason to be the protectors of our world but still not much of a reason to not farm some animals that we find tasty.

    • @FearsomNinja
      @FearsomNinja 6 лет назад

      Eating a human would be cannibalism and not only make you very ill but also be against the law and get you into a lot of trouble. The reason it is justified to eat meat is that the reason that animal was born was the fulfill its purpose as food for humans, instead of us killing natural animals who would have lived a happy life otherwise. If we were not to eat the meat, then that animal wouldn't have even existed in the first place and not able to fulfill a purpose like it was able to when it was bred for food. Who are you to take away the purpose of that animals life and say that it should have never existed in the first place?

    • @FearsomNinja
      @FearsomNinja 6 лет назад

      If you choose to not eat meat or use animal products then that's good for you. However, as per my justification above, and the fact that our species is omnivorous (and has many predatory features such as canine teeth and forward facing eyes) Then you can clearly see that you have no right to force your views onto other people just because it's your belief. I'm sure you wouldn't like having a religious person (or someone of a different religion to yourself) try to force their views down your throat.

    • @Dermaa

    Andy Warhol, human flesh and future predictions
    Ramesvara : It was 1976 and Srila Prabhupada was coming to visit New Dvaraka for the last time. Every morning we would drive Prabhupada to his morning walk either to Venice Beach or Santa Monica. This particular morning, Tamal Krishna Maharaj and myself along with Prabhupada’s servant were driving Srila Prabhupada to his morning walk in Santa Monica. It was typical that we would either ask philosophical questions or we would talk about something in the world news or current events that we found controversial or exciting and have Prabhupada comment on it. This particular morning, a news story had broken the day before that was, to us, somewhat astonishing. There was a group of demented artists in New York that had captured headlines all over the world by having a party in which they served and ate the flesh of aborted fetuses. This artist, the leader of this group was Andy Warhol who was famous for sensational shock. We told Srila Prabhupada this story and I expected Prabhupada to comment on the demonic nature of the living entity and the horror of slaughtering anyone for food. But instead he leaned back on the back seat of the car and said, “Yes, they have not yet learned in this Kali-yuga that human flesh is the tastiest of all meats. That will come in the future of Kali-yuga.” Tamal and I were astonished at Prabhupada’s response to this story. It was not what we were expecting. And in that instant I realized Prabhupada knew everything. He knew what the future of Kali-yuga was. How did he know what meat tastes like, what to speak of which meat is the tastiest is? Our minds were literally I guess you could say, blown. We were just amazed that Prabhupada knew everything and I blurted out, “Srila Prabhupada, you know everything about everything. You see the future, you comment on things that are current, but also talk about the future.” I said, “This is what makes your books so unique. Previous great acharyas have written commentaries on Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, but your commentaries are not only perfect for the time that we’re living in, but they’re perfect for the future because you have the ability to see the future. It’s just amazing to me how unique and special your books are.” Srila Prabhupada smiled and said, “Yes. My books will be the law books for humanity for the next ten thousand years. That is how I think as I write each word.”

      @Dermaa 6 лет назад

      Justin Carrubba yes, and we find it amazing that they can do what the average 5 year old human can, humans are better than most other animals because our potential intelligence out classes them all, the existence of everything we've ever created is proof of this.

    • @justincarrubba759
      @justincarrubba759 6 лет назад

      Der Panda one could say we’re the stupidest bc we’re the only species thats just destroying the planet we live on. Obviously we’re intelligent, but in our own terms of intelligence. In nature some animals are so intelligent and just because they havent built buildings doesnt mean they’re stupid. Look up the honey bee waggle dance, that involves trigonometry and the knowledge that the sun moves in the sky, its crazy. All Im getting at is there’s some things animals can do that animals can’t so there’s intelligence in that. We’re so successful as a species because we are smart enough to be able to pass down information to the next generation. Einstein said “if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, the fish will live its whole life believing it is stupid” similarly, if you judge other species by their ability to build buildings theyll live their whole lives believing they are stupid. I think you should rewatch this vid though because being more “intelligent” does not make us better than animals.
      I just woke up so ik this was kinda randomly thrown together haha

    • @Dermaa
      @Dermaa 6 лет назад

      Justin Carrubba You saying we're stupid because we're destroying the planet is contradictory, you're proof that we're so smart that we've noticed what we're doing and all the environmental efforts like looking into renewable energy is proof that we're trying to minimize our destruction, we're also the only animal that would care to do such a thing.
      would ants, with their amazing complexities, care about the path they ruthlessly carve through forests, or be smart enough to understand that it will harm them in the future, would any animal other than humans be able to do that?
      Yes, bees and their complex dances, but what other animal has such complex ways of communicating, what animal noticed that the bees are using something so complex to communicate and thought that it was worth studying?
      Lots of animals do intelligent things, and yes it would be unfair to judge other animals by our terms but what if we judge them by the only terms that matter in nature, which animal is finding it easiest to survive today?
      Which animal, that isn't used to feed us, has the highest population?
      Which animal has spread across almost all the planet to the point where it's become an environmental concern?
      Being intelligent doesn't make us better?
      How interesting..

    • @justincarrubba759
      @justincarrubba759 6 лет назад

      Der Panda I was just getting at that we shouldn’t underestimate the intelligence of other animals just because we see ourselves as highly civilized. “Humans are better” that is such a vague statement. We certainly are more intelligent, but that doesn’t in any way make us “better” than other animals, nor does it justify exploiting and killing them. We are so intelligent that we comprehend morality so we are therefore obligated to live as ethically as possible. Intelligence does not determine how we should treat other beings. In fact, if intelligence determined what animals we ate we wouldn’t be eating pigs because they’re more intelligent than dogs, and about as intelligent as a 3 year old human. If an extraterrestrial species came to Earth and deemed us unintelligent it wouldn’t make killing us any more justifiable. I pretty much said what Ed said in this vid. You picking up what Im putting down?

  • @sandsmarc
    @sandsmarc 6 лет назад +1

    The logical error here is ascribing intelligence to animals. Only man utilizes reason and deductive and inductive Logic. Animals have certain instinctual behaviors and exhibit a very primitive form of intelligence, but it is not in the same universe as a human’s intelligence. So it is a fallacy to create a continuum with humans at the top and pigs or dogs “just down the line a bit”. The level, nature, and scope of human intelligence is of such a great magnitude that it is a non-sequitir to compare the intelligence of Man with any other life form. There is Man at 100, and every other animal STARTING at 0.000001 and dropping from there. So it is incoherent to compare dogs and pigs and observe that one is killed while the more intelligent of the two is a pet. What we decide to make a pet is arbitrary fashion. Some of us keep fish, snakes, or even in extreme cases jungle cats. Totally irrelevant to the propriety of utilizing animals as food and useful products. It is in fact a good thing to utilize animals to their greatest efficiency in making the life of men better, longer, and nicer.

      loosepieces But in the wild intelligence has a direct link to value of life, anything that isn't intelligent enough or doesn't have an intelligent enough reaction to a certain situation is killed, if the whole species is like that then you've got an extinction going on.
      How would you describe suffering, screaming, crying, thrashing about?
      And these things trigger a sympathetic response from you right, that is an clever adaptation to make you feel bad, warn others of the same species of the danger or both.
      Even an animal looking cute aids in it's survival, especially when the dominant species on earth likes cute looking things.

People keep saying this man is FORCING opinions on them, but he didn’t force you to watch this video nor is he coming to all of our fucking houses to throw away every animal product we own to convert us into veganism. Just calm the hell down and stop being babies. Don’t treat non-meat eaters as aliens or mentally ill people. Jesus, RUclips goers are so dramatic. Live and let live! Stop being so hateful and stupid, it doesn’t work out very well, like.....ever.

    Fantastic....so many excellent and irrefutable points that I hadn't heard of before. And the part starting at 1:37 was spot on. Intelligent species wouldn't eat themselves into a grave, when there is a better option available. Thanks Ed

    We are the most intelligent creatures on earth, therefore making one self just eat plants is pretty dumb since they lack fat soluble vitamins needed for optimal development.

      I'm weak? You're a woman and you're a vegan. Those are the 2 weakest things this world has to offer.

      FearsomNinja Hey fellow ninja, good to see you again. I'm not sure if you're watching the videos or just commenting, but Ed makes some good points if you'd listen. One of his previous videos explains how just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should at the expense of another feeling being.

      He does make good points, but i dislike the idea of forcing your views onto other people, im sure you would find it annoying if religious or athiests did the same to you.

    Really like some of the arguments, but damn the comment section is filled with elitist vegans.
