@@thescottishdetectorist Truly, many thanks to you. From the actual relics found, the amount of history you retain and share, to your uncontrollable schoolboy giddiness and awe when discovering an unbelievable find, is entertaining and so much fun.
Loved to see the Queen Victoria silver 3d, brought back loads of memories because these were the coins used to put in Christmas puddings traditionally. I notice that many folk think that a pre decimal 6d is the pudding coin these days, I suppose as the silver 3ds became less available, the 6d took over. Luckily I still have my Grandma's collection of silver 3ds and use them for puddings.
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend. Another new permission. The farmers are chasing you down the road, wanting you to detect their fields. Awesome.
Longer videos the better 😀But whatever you decide we'll all be happy with. The patterned piece looks like a Greek Key design, I wonder what it was?! Lots of amazing finds as always and interesting facts too.
Hi, great days out on the fields of Perthshire in wonderful Scottish weather, (the wooly hat is back). Very interesting collection of finds, sorry I haven't a clue about the origin of any of them, but still am amazed by them. Also in awe of your eternal optimism😅. Guess you couldn't be a detectorist if you were a pessimist, ha ha. Have a great week and thanks for taking us along with you, cheers.
Hi John. Any video you put out is fine but I really like the longer ones. I particularly enjoy your history lessons with each find. I hope to visit your country some day. Thanks for making such interesting videos.
The key with the square end actually for turning on and out door hose tap in case the case you lose your tap attacment. If you unscrew your tape handle on your outdoor watering hose, you'll see a square attachment is left. The key should fit perfectly to turn your water source on and off.
Great field! The nice thing about RUclips is if you don't have time to watch an hour long video, you can always come back later to finish it. Since you put out a lot of videos already, longer ones are probably more practical for you to produce. You do whatever works best for you!
Disagree. A few regulars of mine have gone to longer videos, I have given up on them and their figures don't look so good. A video would have to have really good content for me to spend a hour watching it, either in one part or not.
Hello It’s the french men ! Your videos are so beautiful, and you are so lucky with silver coins… Personally i prefer a 40mn video. In fact, it’s the time between my station and thé Gare du Nord ! 😊😊 PS : i’m native from the somme ! A tought for english (and scottish) soldiers who died in our fields
28:16 That brass escutcheon reminds me of traction/field engine badging. Such engines were much used on farms in the inter war years especially, although they would have first appeared in the late Victorian period.
That big old hunk of Lead might be a base weight for a desk lamp from the Victorian era. You didn't clean it up much but to me it looked like there was a threaded hole in the domed side of it, and you said it had Iron portions to it as well, and I know that many manufacturers used lead to add weight to the bottom of their lamps as a way to make them less likely to tip over. And on that same note, that copper piece with the decorated edge and three holes in it, one of them a tear drop shape, could be a part of a pen rest for the old style dip pens but it seems like it might be incomplete. But it could just as easily not have anything to do with pens as well. Great Video btw!!!!
John, love your videos, short or long. As for the big round disc of lead, it looks just like something you might find at my house. I am an electrician, plumber, mechanic, handyman etc and can never toss good metal in the bin. I have boxes for old copper, brass and lead. The copper and brass is sold to the recycling. The lead I melt down and cast into fishing lures, dive weights, all kinds of stuff. Sometimes the heat is turned off and the lead cools in the iron pan I melted it in....and then I have thick round 'ingots' of lead for later use. Aloha from a fellow pale blue Scottish person living in Hawaii. David Hume.
John, you find some of the coolest bits of stuff…and your educated suggestions as to how old they are, is the wonderful makings of a very interesting story…each and every time. Love your channel, my Scottish Detectorist friend. Blessings, from this old fart in Tennessee.
Those were some very nice finds in among the things and junk. I actually prefer the longer videos, they always keep me in suspense, will it be ach well, or will you need a wee lie down. The new permission should keep you busy for a while, and has a lot of potential. Cheers from Texas John, be well.
I think I prefer the longer videos. Put the kettle on and feet up. Am appreciative though of all. So interesting and a thrill to see what you find. Keep up the good work 👍
Hi John. Great collection of finds. Think I'm the minority when it comes to video length as I prefer shorter but that's just down to my busy lifestyle and keeping up with other RUclipsrs too. Admittedly I had to skip through this one a little in places. Besides, I've just subscribed to your tour channel. More to keep up with 😄 I'll never miss a video but may have to speed through on longer ones is all. Otherwise, do what works best for you and the majority 😉
The pendant looks like the sort of "souvenir" jewelry you can buy at Lourdes. If that's it, it certainly represent the virgin Mary on one side and a scene of an apparition with Sainte Bernadette Soubirous kneeling before the virgin Mary on the other. Great video and always a pleasure to hear your accent.
John, this was an excellent video, and I'm glad you put it all on one vid. That field is a real treasure, I hope you return to it again soon. You found so many "belters" along with two silver coins and a silver Catholic medallion with Virgin Mary. I also loved the relics you discovered. I'm glad you were solo, so that one of the Jammy Swines didn't find your silver!
Wow what brilliant finds on your new permission. So much good stuff and lovely silver too 😍 I like the little bag seal and your story of the Douglas clan - very interesting 👏 . Long or short vids are good - we’ll watch anything you post 🤩
Hiya John, so exciting to see you working the newest permission. Was serendipitous when that farmer drove by with that manure trailer in a previous vid. Glad he agreed to let you work it. Such a great feeling when you score an undetected permission! I enjoy a 45 min to 1 hr video. The history behind your finds are interesting and unique from other MD channels. I've subscribed to your travel channel as the Scottish history is fascinating. It's on my bucket list to visit there. Well done on the new finds and hopefully more silver, Roman, hammered and/or gold coins to come!
Current day Laudanum usually refers to Dilaudid. The oral opium (refined to heroin, or diacetylmorphine) alcohol drink you're referring to was known as Brompton's cocktail. The alcohol was usually gin. Sometimes it was mixed with thorazine to help minimize nausea. It was generally given to terminally ill cancer patients. This was common in Britain in to the 1970s. But my knowledge is old... I started Nursing School here in The U.S. in 1977.
That ferruled piece of brass could be a plaque for a barrel. As for how long your videos should be, If you aren't finding much but disappointment after disappointment then shorter, but if you're finding lots of great stuff and it doesn't all have to be coins, but relics and other things, Longer videos are better. Of course your History lessons are always fun to listen to, as well.
Wow that new permission was keeping you busy out there. The key you found reminds me very much of the type used to wind a mantel clock. They came out around the 1750's so maybe it could be. I like your longer format.
Do you usually get to keep things you find, or give them to the property owner? Also, sometime in the future it would be great to see some of your favorite things you have been allowed to keep over time and why they are your favs! Love your channel!!
Hi John I love your channel because of the interest I have in the finds but mostly I tune in for your beautiful voice. - so soothing and melodic. Love it! 😊❤❤❤❤
John I like videos that are one hour or less. I can’t really give the time to more than one hour. This video is just the right length and gets my vote! 👍 Nice silver! Congratulations!
You keep getting new permissions so you are doing things right. The key looks a lot like what we use to turn water spigots on and off. I actually stopped watching the video yesterday since it was late and I needed to get to bed. I just watched the rest this morning. I would say make the video length whatever works best for you.
I was wondering, have you ever tried shinning different types of UV lights on your multiple finds.? I wonder if these lights could expose anything more, like less visible cracks or markings, or anything else. Always a pleasure watching your passion :-) :-) Thanks ;-)
🤔 that decorated metal piece could be a slotted (sliding) top for a wee snuff box... possibly? As for length of video, whatever works for you, bc I'd enjoy 20min or 2hrs. LOVE the 🗝just for the possible story behind it. Cheers! 👋Pat- Yukon, Canada
33:50 might be the hand end of a gentleman's walking cane. The large "horse brass" made me think of a fancy label for a wooden cask ie whiskey or rum. Cheers
Hi John, I'll Have to redo your map analysis, I've had some technical difficulties. And you ask the question do us viewers prefer a Long video or two shorter ones? Well you'll make more money with two shorter ones. Cleggy
I don't mind the long videos because they don't seem long at all with all the discoveries!
Let’s go, let’s go treasure and adventure💕🇺🇸🌺👵✌️🎉🌎
Enjoy!!
The medallion is St Bernadette and Our Lady from Lourdes France she saw Our Lady in 1858
Just came here to make the same comment! Deffo St Bernadette..good results from that new permission John..
Here’s another vote for the long format video. As a detectorist it’s such a pleasure watching your full process videos, with a nice bit of history.
Thanks Andrew, wherever possible I’ll definitely do longer videos…. Assuming of course I find enough stuff!!
Your videos are never too long. I would watch even if the video was 2 hours long. No need to split them into separate parts.
Love the longer videos! Great finds on this one, too!
Many thanks 😊
@@thescottishdetectorist Truly, many thanks to you. From the actual relics found, the amount of history you retain and share, to your uncontrollable schoolboy giddiness and awe when discovering an unbelievable find, is entertaining and so much fun.
I always learn something new from you John, love your posts and the history behind your finds!
I really don't mind if the videos are long or short but I would like to see an occasional video following up on some of the mystery finds.
Gotta love saving the old coins! 💥⛏️💰 Keep it up! 💪
(fellow detectorists in Buffalo NY)
Much appreciated!! Happy hunting to you and best wishes
I prefer the longer videos! Love your stuff and your history knowledge. Big fan from NZ!
I would love to see longer videos, and maybe news of previous finds such as the silver pendant you found. Keep the bendy thumb safe.😊
Many thanks Duncan! Definitely more to come!!
Another impressive hunt John !!
Love your Videos and history John. I like your long videos but will take any you put out.
Love the long videos you do you that’s why we’re all here!
love your videos. Make them whatever length is best for you.

I loved the two for one video! I was sad it was going to end too soon and then, surprise!, part two! ❤
Me too!
Longer videos the better 😀But whatever you decide we'll all be happy with. The patterned piece looks like a Greek Key design, I wonder what it was?! Lots of amazing finds as always and interesting facts too.

Many thanks Kay!

The decorative pattern on the bronze part is called a meander. Enjoy every video....👍

Great video as usual, great finds I enjoyed the video. 🇺🇸

Yes Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Bernadette! Hi to you SD - I watch your channel when I want to unwind - it’s your voice, it’s really soothing! 😂❤❤

Much appreciated and thanks for the suggestions!!
Great fines, John I like the longer ones. And I also like that you know the history of coins and objects you find.

The longer the better for your videos 😊 they are great.

The quantities of lead buried in the fields of Perthshire are amazing! What a great day!
It’s quite something isn’t it Janet! Makes you wonder what effect it has on the potatoes and other crops that are planted 😮
👍👍I like longer videos

Nice story about the Douglas family history

Very interesting about the opium.
Maybe the key is from a grandfather clock....thanks for showing the treasure hunt

Excellent hunt john . Nice silver ,enjoy it , 2 parts videos please. Keep swinging😊
Loved this field! Seems really promising!
Nice finds! We don’t get the real old things here in the US. Keep the videos as you have been doing. They are just right.
Thanks for the video. I will watch whatever length video you put out.

That big hunk of brass sure does look like a belt buckle. It looks like on the back of it you can see where the tangs we’re soldered on.
Thanks Jonnie. I’ll have a look!
