    The not sealing (and not coming up to pressure) happens frequently when the sauce is too thick and there is not enough water available to create steam. The result is the temperature sensor in the outer pot will detect the pot is overheating and throw the 'Burn' exception. This is specifically frequent when one uses tomato sauce or puree and mixes it well. The trick most IP'ers use is to make sure there is at least a cup of water on the bottom of the pot and then layer the other ingredients on top, with the tomato product as the last ingredient to be filled in on the very top - no stirring or mixing. Once the meal is cooked and the pressure released one can give it a good stir. It usually takes a few experiences to get tomato based dishes to work well. My first attempt on Butter Chicken ended up slightly burned as well with the pot not sealing. Good luck.

      we had 4 cups of water in the bottom plus a half jar of spaghetti sauce. not sure what is going on except the steam leak and the crackle bubble noises it was making (which Joni says hers has never made noises like that)

      Martin Wolfertz I agree. Gotta have some water in the bottom. Also when cooking meat use the rack & make sure you have liquid in the bottom. I learned the hard way, lol. But all was not lost thanks to the internet.

    • @mwolfer1
      @mwolfer1 6 лет назад

      I thought I saw you guys stir it all before you sealed it. That's the crucial question - to stir or not to stir: If there is tomato involved (which gobbles up the liquid) do not stir. :-)

      I've found that sometimes I need to press down for it to seal. Sometimes it's not seated correctly and moving it some and pressing down helps.
      The other option is that the seal is not seated correctly. I've learned to check that, too. It needs to be completely in place.

    Yep, that’s how I do it. I cook with whatever I have in hand, open the pot and toss it in. I’ve made some really tasty and nutritious meals this way. It’s also a good way to use up things from the pantry and fridge so there’s no waste.
    Thank you both for your vlogs. I enjoy and appreciate them🌞

    I have a 3 qt IP I threw it on my meter, it uses 680-Ish watts when heating and pressurizing. For something like rice this is about 10 minutes at this level, after that it’s very little. Even medium portable power stations like the Bluetti EB70 could handle this no problem. I usually use IP for rice, beans/lentils , soup, or yogurt and never had an issue.

  • @RiDankulous

    As many vegans do, I eat lots of canned beans. Compared to dry beans they are 5 times more expensive (on a calorie basis) .
    I will save $20 per month on beans, and possibly more if I consume more during periods where I will strength train more. That $20/month is $240 a year or $8400 in the next 35 years I may live. This includes only the cost of the beans themselves.
    I saw a RUclips video testing a 3 quart Insta-pot for energy usage and it only uses 15 amp-hours in 1 hour, using battery power and in inverter for 110 V AC. This is very low energy and people who do van and RV life can benefit greatly if using it on a regular basis.

      Seven Wanders the World , Ipot depends on being able to have enough water to build up the stream pressure. So when cooking be sure the sauce is loose and more liquid. Trial and error learning to get the most from the pot. Watch some of Jill McKeever Simple Daily recipes on RUclips. She got me started on the ipots. Enjoy.

    There are a number of good options for camp cooking from kelly kettle (rocket stove water heater) to a 16 inch dutch oven that you can bake pizza in. The Key is to have the options for the land you are on from those that you can use a contained fire to those that you can have an open fire for the coals to dump on a dutch oven.
    You should look up plans for can dispensers that you can mount to the van walls for vertical first in first out rotation. A bungy cord over the opening to keep them secure when moving. 1 slot per product type would also give you easy inventory options as you can see how many empty slots you have.

    • @SevenWanderstheWorld
      @SevenWanderstheWorld  6 лет назад

      love your idea of can dispensers. ps. my 3 main cooking items are a kettle, a small 1 qt pot and my lodge cast iron skillet (which doubles as the lid to my dutch oven pot)

    What's up I lived in Bakersfield we used to go to lake Isabella great fishing they didn't charge to camp up there nothing it just do what you want but just remember that lake is Kern River is the river you're trying to look at that it goes down through the pinion towards Bakersfield in the open areas it is one of the fastest rivers in America they had Olympic kayaking there and at the entrance to the canyon to go up to lake Isabella is used to have a sign how many people drowned in that River it was a lot of people because it's so fast it goes around those rocks and all and it makes whirlpools that will suck you down and drowned you

    Well I am happy your chili turned out so good. It was the combo of Italian seasonings in the sauce and the hot pepper flakes ! I for one learned several things from your experience, 1) I have never heard of carrots and cauliflower in chili, but hey, soup is soup and I love all vegetables. 2) all the helpful input from your followers from their experience using the instant pot. I have one, baked potatoes are awesome in it, boiled eggs great ! Mine holds 4 pints jars, so I pressure can left overs. You can put the cheapest toughest piece of meat in under pressure and have a delicious and tender roast in a short time. Thank you for sharing !

    Hey Seven, say Hi to Joni too, great to see you guys! That chili sounds great! I gotta look into this some more. The delicious chili idea, and solar friendly to the battery bank sounds great! And easier clean up too! That location looks beautiful! Here in CT it is rainy today, but up to 60 towards the end of the day. Getting warmer! I'm getting out more on bicycle during between work. I had mech take the bus down to do VIN verification, part of the process of trying to register it from out of state. It did not pass as it needed new odometer LCD display not readable, so mech ordering replacement for me, and they are replacing it. I have RV ins on it now, hopefully this will work with our DMV in CT. Can be challenging! So now that I'm maxed out financially it will be a while before I can do much. The time of no money, till I accrue some more, allow me to research, scavenge, and be creative! But I'm excited! We use the MT45 daily for work truck, still working out the electrical quirks, not much time on it. Also still pimping sprinter van as well. Not enough time, still gotta work on the house, business etc..also making plans to simplify too! God bless you guys! Enjoy the beautiful spot your at, and just savor the moments! Enjoy!

    The flat "spoon" is a rice paddle. The scoop is good for soups. The "cup" is only for rice since it's not actually "1 cup". It's for measuring rice and the water for rice to get the correct proportions.

    • @mememememe2544

      There is a design flaw. When you turn the lid to lock it, it should go 1-2 mm more. So that little pin can go all the way in, so the pressure pin can go all the way up. I had to modify my plastic stop to let the lid go the extra mm and now it works well. I tried to go on Amazon to complain but the item was removed. I wish I'd done a video because all I had was a hammer and screw driver at the time and fixing it looked funny. There are better ways of fixing the problem but you use what you have. I think you could do a small grind with a dremel of 2 mm on the metal ring and be fine.

    If your batteries were fully charged to begin with, how much power did it use and how long did it take to recharge the batteries to full? ( I'm not good with watts and Volts and amps either)

    • @SevenWanderstheWorld
      @SevenWanderstheWorld  6 лет назад +5

      I have a lot of solar and 450 amp hours of batteries. batteries were fully charged with 700 watts of full solar coming in for the beans and then maybe 300 watts solar coming in for the final chili cooking. in the end batteries were full by the time my meal was done.

      with a little bit a creativity you can run almost anything on DC power. Half of the electronics inside your device are converting a/c to DC to run all the computer stuff. the only thing that runs a/c directly would be the heating element and maybe a fan but they make both a/c and dc fans. ive run 110v soldering irons and hotglue guns off dc before.

    I have never seen the message burn on my Instant Pot give an update as to why Instant Pot says you got that burn message. You were getting leaking because your seal was not sitting right alway make sure the seal is pushed into place before you put the lid on the Instant Pot. We are a fulltime family of 5 and I have two 6 qt Instant Pots and use them everyday. I am glad to see that they will run on solar we are usually in RV Parks but we will be doing more boondocking in the future.

    Hello there Seven and hello Joni! Oh wow, that is a beautiful sight to have in your front yard and a wonderful sound as well. My, my, my, that is one shnazzy pot ya have there...oh dang it! I hope that they didn't ruin a good thing by makin' the pot too shnazzy. Your meal is cooked though, it's got to be some sorta small glitch and nothing too serious. I hope. We each have our own special ways of cooking some things and chili is one of those things. I like experiencing the different styles of things and sometimes I even pick up an ingredient or trick to use for mine. That looks great! Here I am, like a moron, tryin' to smell it...smell is so important to taste and chili usually has fantastic nose appeal. You ate it all! I bet there were a couple of new sounds being heard with the running river that night. Heh, heh...sorry.
