Hi Mover and Gonky. There have been several shows that I have thought to myself: this is the best one the lads have done. Today, Season 3, Episode 2 is yet another one in the list. Mental Health Moments is a wonderful addition to the show - very valuable teachings. Thank you gentlemen, and guest Col. Mattingly for your willingness to be open and share your experiences.
Shawn, another great guest. Thanks for the MHM, I'LL give it a try. Happy to hear you guys are getting the recognition you deserve. Sierra hotel gentlemen
Outstanding is truly the word. What an episode. Listen, I am nobody, my connection to aviation is just my dad having worked his whole life in test equipment for the Finnish Airforce. Ive been listening to your channel for likely 3-4 years now. Its crazy how connected I feel with you all, and how much I can pull resilience from these. Like the man said, you deserve all the credit for your work and then some!
Thank you guys I'm going to try this mental health technique, I am probably the most negative person in the world, think Marvin the paranoid Android! Without going into too much detail my world is currently crumbling before my eyes. Thank you for being here every week.
Fantastic episode! It took me more than 3 hours to finish it because I kept replaying certain parts, especially the funny stories and key leadership lessons. Now I get it why Mover was all praises for the Colonel in previous episodes. There has to be a Part 2 in the future. And this needs to be written into a book.
What an awesome show. What an amazing story. What a great guy. So motivational. I really needed this, I have been struggling the last few days, I really needed this, thanks to all. I will try the 3 things. Thanks again
I watch/listen this show religiously while working from home on my pc everyday from South Africa, unfortunately DCS is the closest I will ever get to flying the amazing American jets. Iron eagle was the one that made me fall in love with military aviation, as a child, love the Viper, so sexy, did not see Top Gun till much later, but loved first and second one.. And yeah Still remember sitting down as a child for the first episode of Airwolf and never missied an episode, went to our local shopping mall in South Africa to see Airwolf in real life. It was so awesome as it flew over the roof of the shopping mall and came in to land, still have the photo with me standing in front of it somewhere. you have made me rewatch a few episodes here and there. Still very entertaining.
This episode has got to be one of my absolute favorites! I never exactly dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot-I mean, Top Gun is cool and all, but here we are! Somehow, life threw me in with a squadron of you guys-half professionals, half comedians, all legends. Your mix of just-barely-official bravado, relentless humility, and nonstop humor keeps me laughing... and occasionally aspiring to be a better human too. Thank you Gonky/Mover/Shawn.
For someone who has suffered from bad PTSD over the last two years which lead to having stroke earlier this year I can truly say small grateful things do help and one the reasons why I’m in a much better head space! From down under thank you lads for your show each week and the MHM! If you ever find yourself in Adelaide Aus drinks on me! Great guest and show keep it up 👍🏻
I loved that episode. You two calling someone Sir for a start. 😂 The mental health minute also gave me a new way to tackle things. I've started to write down 3 things. Yesterday I could only write down one. A Dear running across a field. Today, a full list of 3 things that made me thankful or happy.
Worked with 2 kc-10s in UAE for Southern Watch in 1998. I was a traditional crewchief from Washington Air Guard (1991-2010) We came with 2 KC-135s and there were 3 KC-135s from Arizona Air Guard. My home job is a farmer so I got be the tow tractor operator.
I miss the Starlifter. I remember seeing "Hanoi Taxi" landing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in May 2006. I smiled and shed some tears knowing the C-141 will never fly again.
As a long ago USAF Retiree, I still dream to go back, but we can never put the magic back in the bottle. in spite of that, If I could, I would honor the chance to go back and work for Col. Mattingly, definitely a leader of airmen. We had pretty good leaders but we had the few that believed the Pentagon was the Promised Land, and it showed on whether they were team leaders or used us (and the unit) as a stepping stone. Miss it!
Good to know Fort Dix Meps sucked back then too. I went through for my meps and they were terrible tried to get me to make me get glasses after having perfect vision all my life. F that placw
T-3A's were scrapped for the value of the metal to the scrapper, all 106 or so of them, at Hondo in 2006. It's amazing, we spend billions (trillions?) to make an ugly airplane that does everything, or promised with the next bug fix, with a pilot along for the ride, but we keep buying initial training airplanes from the specs in the sales brochure, and do not question the design or engineering for a military BFM AND 1v1, etc. training environment.
This was one of the best shows ever. It was a pleasure watching this video with Shawn.
I was going to comment that!
Inspiring Mental Health Minute. Thank you, Col. Mattingly, for sharing your story. Great, encouraging comments from Mover and Gonky, too.
Another great show, you guys bring on the best guests. Glad to see there are some leaders who still look out for there people.
Great episode! Col. Mattingly is also so down to earth; he is a great person with heart! Thank you!
Great show, Mover and Gonky! Colonel Mattingly was a great guest!
I am grateful for The Mover & Gonky show and their guests.

Omg. This was so fantastic. I love the fighter pilot stories, but I’d love to be friends with this guy. So good.
One of the best ones yet!
Your humour makes my day a little brighter. And your mental health minutes ensure tomorrow will be brighter still. You guys are amazing!

You didn’t ask him about his scariest moment in an airplane. ☹️
