Great interview with Jared. I've seen him interviewed on some other channels and you asked some great questions that I haven't heard him answer before. Laughed real hard at the "upper decker." LOL

    Really interesting interview with Jared.
The ejection decision seemed pretty sound given the circumstances in this incident. Lost enough mates who have left it too late or just didn’t have the opportunity to pull the handle. The jet can be replaced but you can’t. One of the first things we were taught.
Looking forward to your interview with Mike on Aircrew Interview, Gonky.
He’s such a nice guy and enjoyed chatting with him about my lowly adventures.
Thank you both for your service. And Doug too!
    Cheers.

Happy belated veteran day, we "metric" dudes are always a day ahead. About mental health, it also reflects on animals. 3 years ago I adopted a Pumi dog, they are very rare, in great lines these are Hungarian shepherds but with a bit of terrier in it, they look funny with their pointing ears. When we got Jack, he was so afraid, he crawled in a corner for 2 straight days. We left him there and didn't disturb him. The next day he got hungry, and we gave him a snack, very calm, which he took. We are now three years further, and he is happier than ever, these are high energy dogs. So they have to run miles to get off their energy. But every day we see him growing (mentally). What I want to say, and that also counts for humans, you have to take it day by day, each time slowly. If you have a past in the military, and confronted with PT. It's the same analogy. Day by day in small steps. Lately your podcasts are top-notch, keep up the good work. Thanks for your service, from a Belgium vet, although we got none of the recognition in this part of the world. Give Luna a bit love from my wife and me 🐾🐾🐾

Another excellent show Sirs - Draken bought the company I was working for ( Cobham Aviation Services @ Bournmouth here in the UK) a few years back (they have a fleet of ex FedEx Falcon 20 Freight aircraft which they use as Attack aircraft for Naval forces) - The have augmented those with the Aero L-159 at Teesside Airport in the Red Air role. He was again, another most excellent guest!

Haiti/Spirit update: My son flies yellow Airbuses so learned a few details. A FA was injured when a bullet punctured the slide inflation device for a door. This blew up causing some fiberglass shrapnel to embed itself into her head. One round struck an engine. One round entered the cockpit just behind the captain. One round passed through the electronics bay, deforming but not penetrating the floor at the FO's feet. Another round blew through the primary fuel management processor. As Gonky likely knows, the Bus has redundant systems for critical stuff like that. I suspect that airframe will be out of service for a while for forensic examination and repairs. The FA ought to recover but she might be making some serious life choices.

I think most people agree that the Felon is a beautiful and impressive plane for what it is, but the Russia block will have people denying it. Without that, its a just a cool plane.

I flew round trip on Spirit once. Tried arguing with my wife about their reputation but it was considerably cheaper than any other airline so we took our chances. It wasn't actually that bad. Because of their carry-on policy (only paid/tagged carry-on and not personal items can go in the overhead bins) boarding was really quick with few people blocking the aisles. The check-in baggage weight before penalty is low (40 lbs) but they cut me some slack when I was a bit overweight.
The seats up front are the "Big Front Seat". And yeah they were big with a lot of legroom, but they don't recline.

Omg, I can't believe they couldn't get the Mig 21 operational. I feel a little sick knowing bureaucrats held back their approval. $3k/hr!?!? I wanna throw up, such a waste...

  • @Jim610

Typhoon doesn't use Flaps/Slats for takeoff/Landing either. As soon as the legs are down the Flap/Slats are locked flush.

Regarding the commander who got relieved, I wouldn't be surprised if the relief was not for the stated or publicly believed reason. Think of all the overweight and out of shape senior servicemembers and then think of the few servicemembers, senior or not, who are actually discharged for being overweight and out of shape. Unless there is some personal animus involved, the suspicion will be there was something besides his piloting error that caused the Marine Corps to relieve him of his command. If the service wants you, it will keep you, regardless of any deficiency. If the service doesn't want you, then any deficiency will be sufficient reason to end your time in service.

I totally agree with you that the fat ami pilot had the right to jump out based on the details in the final report. In fact he did start to transition the jet into a stable condition (he commanded it to change to horizontal flight). Fewer instrument failures, slightly better weather, having comms with his wingman, he could have been a hero. It was the farce of having a plane that has no dead man’s safeguards in place, unlike Trains or Teslas which will switch off without periodic control inputs. It does raise the question:- is Fat Ami the $100m American version of a Chinese spy balloon?

Interesting hearing about the lack of a HUD you guys wanted, over many years. Verreses the comparison with SpaceX. Week by week improvements. Maybe that's why Trump has assigned Musk a job to do with efficiency. I'm a Brit by the way. Do you have a spare Musk for us? Come to think of it a spare Trump wouldn't go a miss in the UK right now.

"How much time do you have in ejection seats? Zero." - Social media is the unfortunate cause of this. People who know nothing, yet still have an opinion have those opinions broadcast to millions, then like-minded know-nothings get on board and amplify their nonsense... and then it becomes the prevailing "wisdom" of the masses. You've gotten angry about this one because it's in your wheelhouse, but it happens across all fields and topics... So easy to dismiss when the nonsense aligns with your view. So annoying when it doesn't.

Mover is not impressed because an F-16 can do better. LOL
Russian and Chinese planes don't need to be better, just good enough once they produce many of them just like the Cold War.
