She just described exactly all the areas on my face where I experience SD! I'm so big on skincare, and I was just diagnosed with SD last year, I felt so betrayed lol. Like, skin what did I do to deserve this, I've showed you nothing but love. Right now all I just want is to be able to keep the SD under control.
Thank you so much for the recommendation because I have a big problem with this and every time I wash my face it always has a burning effect and I notice it flakes up even when I apply moisturizing lotion(Cetaphil) and this is really causing a big insecurity for me.
I couldnt figure out what this was and it has traveled to the top of my nose and has been flaking for years and years!! Ugh! I tried moisturizing constantly, not moisturizing at all, exfoliating a lot exfoliating a little and everything in between. This makes so much sense! I'm going to treat my scalp too. Thank you so much!
I was recently diagnosed with a candida overgrowth and a leaky gut which explains why I have been struggling with SD and other skin issues like eczema for literally years, over a decade now. I have gotten SD under control before by washing my face with ONLY salt water (epsom salt) and no moisturizing at all. Most moisturizers tend to made SD worse especially if they have any plant oils in them those tend to feed the yeast and contribute to fungal growth and you'll notice your SD get worse. I'm going through a bad bout right now where every time I reintroduce a moisturizer to my routine after weeks of washing with only salt it comes back. But I'm also dealing with gut imbalance and on a strict, special diet for that. Hoping to clear up some of the issue with recommendations here while I wait for my gut to heal. If you've been struggling for years I highly recommend investigating a candida overgrowth in your gut.
ive been having this problem for years !! my nose first starts producing flakes and then it gets oily! its made me really insecure abt my nose, thank you for informing me !!
I've been struggling fir many years my nose, ears, eyebrows . Specially when I'm stressed. Swimming in sea water helps maintain my glowing skin, and dandruff on my hair and facial area. thanks for this information. I'm having SD condition.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!! I've been struggling with this problem for months that I became insecure. I thought I was getting an allergic reaction to my face masks. i also thought it was an allergic reaction to face mask, but i think it is fungal growth, the fungi love warm damp places, i got a terrible reaction around my nose under my chin up to my eyebrows after redoing the insulation in the loft wearing one of those silicone masks, cured it with an aloe vera solution i made from a plant i grew myself
My Seborrheic Dermatitis started on my eyelids. It then spread to my under eyes, around my nose, my chin, and now my neck. (I noticed it starting around 4 months ago.) I was just diagnosed today.
I tried the TonyMoly moisturizer with Green tea and saw results in a few hours. The top layer peeled off and I had smooth regular skin under. Now I apply a little in that area every night and it’s like $14 for a big bottle.
I’ve been watching your videos but haven’t found any helpful one. I’m dealing with a very red nose that has very small pimples on it and on the sides. As you also mentioned in the video, I tend to get very flaky on the sides of my nose. Other than that my nose feels very warm and looks dry but is very oily at the same time. I really don’t know what to do and medicines from dermatologist doesn’t help the red nose that I have..
I am sorry you have not found anything to help - from me or the dermatologists that you have seen. Skin problems can be frustrating for patients and those of us trying tenaciously to help. I wish it was always simple. Thanks for watching.
whatameliawears I went to a professional esthetician and she told me that I apparently have rosacea (mostly around nose) and that my skin was very dehydrated. The flakes that occurs is because of the dehydration on the skin, so ingredients such hyaluronic acid is helpful
Mine started one day when out of nowhere in class I felt something going down my nose ever since that day I got allergies I was left with dryness that even till this day I can’t get rid of it no matter if I use moisturizer every day and a lot in that area my dryness is around my nose in corners of my mustache an goatee mine isn’t really red is white fully white it’s annoying I’ve been struggling with this for 6 months now I believe
Great! I had this for years, almost always during the summer, around my eyelids and brow and just assumed it was poison ivy. Just this year I got it under my lower lip and realized it actually wasn't poison ivy. It comes an goes, but it's nice to know what products I can use to treat it immediately. Thank youuu!
This stuffs helps (sorted by effectivity): 1. Selendisulfid shampoo, 2. Ketoconazol shampoo, 3. Ciclopirox shampoo, 4. Salicylacid shampoo. Most importantly, wash your hair min once a day, your face whenever you go to bed and get up. The skin is grnerally greasier when you sleep. Do not use any cream soaps, no oils, no wax. Just let your skin and scalp air dry, no dryer! Whenever you can, put your face into the sun. That is the best medicine.
Dr. Bailey, I have your Calming Zinc Bar and have been using it for years and it works great! I also have noticed that when I use Sonya Dakar Buriti Oil cleanser it works as well. But, it is way more expensive than your bar so I mostly use your bar. Why would this oil work when to my knowledge its not anti yeast?
Some botanical oils have antimicrobial properties. Coconut for example does. It does not absorb well and leaves slide on the skin. Have you tried just pure grapeseed oil? I like that as a first cleanse to remove makeup and product. Then follow with a light lather with another cleanser such as the Calming Zinc. Also, have you seen my Omega Enriched Booster Oil? www.drbaileyskincare.com/omega-enriched-face-booster-oil A few drops at night added to a rich lotion or cream might be a nice antimicrobial and healing night treatment. My Natural Lotion has coconut oil and other botanicals in a rapidly absorbing formulation. It's very economical www.drbaileyskincare.com/all-natural-face-hand-body-lotion Thanks for telling me how much the Calming Zinc helps. It was the first product I developed.

:)thank you so much for the superb explanation! I only had it on my left crease of the nose. It started last year, during my pregnancy period and until now that I'm a breastfeed mom, I noticed it more. I thought it was just a dry skin. No matter how much moisturizer I put in there, next morning there's still white scally skin in there. I'm from Philippines, where can I buy the soap and cream doc? Thank you so much and God bless!

this really explains what recently happens to me! THANK YOU! yes, i am entering my middle age. Actually this rash that turns to flakes started to happen right after the first dose of my covid vaccination (sinovac) that i thought it would be a temporary allergic reaction. But it stays for already a year by now and I am starting to worry if it may be a cancer (yes, hypochondriac I am!) so thank you and thank you! I will try your advice.
@@lanton1 yes, that topical medication she suggested in the video helps. also apparently mine was not that severe, in a week i had no more flaking skin on my cheeks

Truly! One of life's not so funny consequences of getting sick and not being able to wash and exfoliate before the scale builds up. Thanks for watching!
I used to fight SD for years with products, and even if it helped, it never was the final solution. I've recently watched videos of people talking about how low carb diet completely cleared their SD. As this diet was difficult to me, I did just cut sugar, and guess what, it totally diseppeared, plus my skin is really nice now. I would definitely advise you trying this, and cutting down suggar can only have positiv effects on your body.
Well for anyone reading this - I have some bad news: I'm nearly 50 and it's never left me - it started in my teenage years and gradually just got worse) Very seldom I have better and good days - but it mostly flares up at any given time.. then gets flaky and peeling off / exfoliating the flakes away, leaves a shiny red new skin, that can't even be covered with concealer.. From a flare up to a fully healed new skin can take weeks. Sometimes the whole area completely dries out and then leaves another flaky skin behind (much like after a sun burn). I've tried everything under the sun, for me nothing has poven to be 100% effective. I just walk around with a zinc cream for most of my days now when I'm at home. Good news - now everyone wearing a face mask I can leave my zinc cream on my nose all day ;)
What works for me (but I don't know why) is to have a proper diet (whole food and most of all sugar-free and dairy-free), to leave my skin alone (I put nothing on it) and to do a lot of sport for sweating (it really cures my skin). Unfortunately, dermatologist products didn't help, because they made my skin more dependant. So... We have to experience and see what works and what doesn't.
@@samsungkartit For me, 100% dairy-free for sure. When I eat dairy (cow, goat, raw or pasteurized), I have immediatly a sore throat and my eczema gets worse.. (yes, crazy). For gluten, I only eat homemade whole grain bread or whole grains low in gluten (small spelt, whole barley, etc...). But it's quite rare because grains make me feel tired (even the gluten-free one, like buckwheat or quinoa). So I must say 99 % gluten-free. What really works for me is a whole food diet with many fruits, vegetables, raw seafood, raw fish, some starches (potatoes, sweet potatoes) and seeds (sesame, flaxseed, chia seed). I like beans and legumes too, but it's really long to cook. I also avoid processed food (sugar, canned food, etc...), even oil and white salt which are actually processed food (olive oil triggers my eczema...). So, this is what works for me, I don't know if it'll work for the others (you can try and see). I also don't understand why diet and way of life are related to my skin and glut issues, while some people can eat absolutely everything with no weight gain or skin issues. Maybe someday I'll understand..
@@chichizo71 I have the same problem and thanks for your information. I have done a diet 2 years ago, actually quite the same as yours and I lost about 20 kg and i was very skinny but my eczema went away. But then I felt miserable because of loosing weight, because I'm a male and I am practicing a lot of sport as hitting the gym and i stopped the diet. My symptoms are something like a white layer/dead skin of my eyebrows and on my scalp, and i loose hair there also. Maybe I will start next week the diet one more time. But I find it so hard and depressing... I will start gluten free and sugar free for the first.
@@samsungkartit I've always been skinny and small, so weight isn't an issue for me... But I currently don't lose weight, because I eat a lot (during the quarantine hehe)... I also have dead skin in my eyebrows, on my nose and around my nose, but it's okay for the moment (it was really horrible last week when I ate an hoummous with a lot of olive oil and then a brownie...)... For the hair, I prevented eczema to grow thanks to a natural hair shampoo routine (rhassoul + unpasteurized vinegar cider) and it quickly went away... If you want more advice or guidelines, you can watch the videos of Rob Stuart (a ginger man), Eczema Healing from Greg Da Santos (quite good too) and Toby Gomez, who had a really bad cystic acne and seborrheic dermatitis... They all suggest to stop dairy, sugar and processed food...
As someone who has suffered from SD for 30 years. Believe me I tried every prescription cream and lotion available, but nothing really worked for me. By chance I started using a shampoo called t/gel by neutrogena it's a therapeutic shampoo that's coal tar based. I used this not only for my scalp but also as a face wash. I started using this 15 years ago and honestly I've never looked back from that time. It took around 4 to 5 weeks to work but my skin now is back to normal, I also found that using a face flannel to remove the build up of oily skin around nose areas is highly recommended. You only need to do that once week. Hope this product does can do for you as it has for me...
I recommend using a topical zinc suncream. Zinc seemed to really help clear mine up. I also used topical metronidazole which helped but my anecdotal experience is topical zinc helped more. I had SD for 3 years before curing FWIW.
I think I am going to purchase the zinc cleansing bar. I’ve struggled with dry, scaly skin under the one side of my nose for as long as I can remember. I’m incredibly hydrated too, as I drink lots of water everyday. Hopefully this will help!
Good video. I wish you would’ve mentioned whether sebborheic dermatitis was curable completely, or if it was a chronic condition a person would have to monitor forever.
If you’ve had it for years already it likely wont go away until someone discovers how to cure it. I’ve had SD for almost three years now and the only thing that helps return my skin to a normal feeling and appearance is ocean water. Of course staying away from certain foods can help, a little bit. But my major breakthrough was saltwater/ocean water.
@Chelle Bright Ocean water/salt water is not nasty unless you are swimming near a river run off or you are in a location that has a lot of pollution. If you research the effects saltwater has on skin you’ll find that it clears skin up not just from infections but acne and inflammation, ect.
Just a quick message. I suffer with this and have done so since 2003. I find using T Gel shampoo is good for the scalp. It doesn't do anything for the face but it's worth a go for the scalp.👍

I have seb derm on face. Skin is always red, irritated with scales associated. Some docs misdiagnoses with rosacea, but in fact I benefit from glycolic acid, piroctone olamine and peelings.
The corners of my nose, my chin, and the corners of my mouth have always been red and peeling. I’m hoping this is it and a zinc cleanser will help clear it up
I just started getting this rash around my nose that is very painful. I’m wondering if this is what is causing this? It looks bumpy, red, flaky, and really painful. It’s also on either side of my mouth. I’m stumped.

Hello Dr. Bailey. I hope all is well. I rotate between Epiduo Forte cream & Sodium Sulfacetamide/Sulfer Emollient cream every other night. Also, I use Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser with ketoconazole cream in the morning. I’ve been using this routine for about 3 months now and see little to some results. Would you recommend your zinc soap and gentle tea instead? My serhibic Dermatitis is in my t- zone area. Redness and pustules. Thank you for your services.
All of my seb derm patients use my zinc soap and green tea as a baseline skin care routine. In my practice, I add prescriptions on top. One's treating doc needs to always supervise prescription use so I can just say this is what I do in MY practice. Thanks for watching!
I use topical ointment that has corticosteroids: Fucicort (Fusidic acid) It is like magic: if you use it everyday or skip a day in between, it sets your skin smooth back with no irritation nor inflammation around the nose and between the eye-nose area. Any comment from Dr. Bailey?
yep, not a fan of halogenated corticosteroids on the face as they can trigger perioral derm drbaileyskincare.com/pages/perioral-dermatitis and cause skin atrophy

Hi Ben, start washing your face 5 times a day with cold (or slightly warm) water then then use a face flannel/towel to scrub your face dry (scrub gently though to begin with if your face is sore or irritated). I bought soft cotton face towels so it's not so rough on the face. It's worked wonders for me, currently completely free of seb derm on my face (mine was mainly on the sides of my nose/cheeks). It might sound like a pain washing your face 5 times a day but if it works for you then you can reduce it down to washing 3 times a day. Hope this helps you.
I have this but have figured it out - i have to take probiotics daily, can't drink alcohol, and apply braggs organic apple cider vinegar about twice a week. I also let head and shoulders shampoo run down my face as it has zinc in it. If i skip even one of those steps for 4 days or so i will have an embarassing flare up. Thank you Dr Bailey for the video! That was very helpful! For so many years, I covered my face with moisturizers (including oils!!!) because I was convinced by other people, including cosmetologists that I have very dry skin! And like you said, it was worse! The Calming Zinc soap is my most helpful tool and it works like magic. But I have to wash it off very well otherwise it gives me flakes. It happened to me only once when I just used the shower stream to take it out, without wiping with my hands. I wonder if it comes from olive oil in it that feeds Malassezia and some residues of it stayed in the skin? Do you think it may be? And I just learnt you have a Zinc based foaming cleanser! I may have to try it as well since I can also use it as a shampoo! I remember having searched a lot for a foaming zinc based cleanser and couldn't find a single one! Thank you.

Good news - now everyone wearing a face mask I can leave my zinc cream on my nose all day ;)
Are you telling me I’m gonna live like this my whole life😭
Damn guess im Rudolph for life

Hello Doc, what is the brand of the soap and the green tea topical?
Is Ketoconazole 2% significantly better than Clotrimazole 1%? Or about the same?
What works for me (but I don't know why) is to have a proper diet (whole food and most of all sugar-free and dairy-free), to leave my skin alone (I put nothing on it) and to do a lot of sport for sweating (it really cures my skin). Unfortunately, dermatologist products didn't help, because they made my skin more dependant. So... We have to experience and see what works and what doesn't.
Gluten free or diary free?

If you research the effects saltwater has on skin you’ll find that it clears skin up not just from infections but acne and inflammation, ect.
not curable - sadly! we manage it and do get remissions.

@@saskia.h also this was 4 months ago since then ive actually found a very good skin routine thats been working for me just a little update but ill still like to know :)
@@x8XINF3RNOX8x Ok so, the Cicapair color-correcting treatment from Dr. Jart is designed to cover up the redness, but it has also helped my redness generally go down, especially in the creases of my nose. I have very dry skin so I use it on top of my already moisturizing skincare routine as a sealing layer (it's also SPF). I also make sure to use chemical exfoliants, every couple of days at least (lactic acid or glycolic acid usually). You can get them from The Ordinary for an affordable price. A good deeply hydrating lotion is Cicaplast from La Roche Posay for when things get bad. I also make sure to use a non-drying cleanser (cera ve and the ordinary have good ones). I have other general practices but these few changes have helped ALOT.
For background: my main problem is very very dry skin in a very dry climate, and my nose is by far the driest. I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp so I assume my flakey nose is also part of the SD.
I had it everywhere....super oily. Scalp behind ears..ugh..green tea? Can I drink it and it work?
works best topically
My husband has a red flaky nose... How to cure it mam? It is too itchy...

The top inside of my nose has been hurting really bad! And you can also see a red spot inside of my nose my parents say I don’t drink enough water which is true but I don’t think that’s the case! What do you think?
I think I am a dermatologist not an ENT doc ;-) Dandruff does not go inside the nose.
