If you haven't already listen to Eva Cassidy's version of this song. Sting found it after her passing and loved it because he said that this was how he originally had intended it to be but wasnt when he sang it. He said he started crying and then he immediately took it to his music producer and music executive people, he is one of the main reasons why her name is it all known in England and here.
Sting used to live in a place called Wilton and out from his windows he could see crops in the fields Barley Wheat etc and come Harvest time they really are fields of gold.....so imagine being in one in the summertime a warm summer evening with your girl........thats the song....
One of my few favorite songs, A man's love song. "I felt her body rise as I kissed her mouth." I've lived that moment, and it lives forever in fields of gold.
STING "DESERT ROSE" You definitely know him, loves. He was the lead singer & bass player of The Police. They were together for 9 years & then he went solo. Since the, Sting has had a brilliant solo career that's rabbit hole. I recommend "Desert Rose" featuring Cheb Mami. Stunning video & it incorporates his love of Worldbeats. Enjoy! ❤️🎵
Stunningly beautiful. My parents loved this song. RIP Dad. Thank you for passing this music on. I love you two and your passionate reactions to good music
This Stings Solo work. Sting was the lead singer and bass player for the group Police. He has a vast catalog of music and collaborations. Check him out he’s really good and you will not be disappointed Sting is extremely poetic. Also check out Stings collaborations with Annie Lennox they are smoking together. Annie is from the group the Eurythmics and I’m sure by now you know she has a solo career to.
Sting is quite the poet, one of my favourites, I have a good collection of his CDs that I play often. "Shape of my Heart", "Fragile", "Ghost Story", his song "Russians" sadly still fits today.
I love Sting, whether he is solo or a member of the Police. He has had so many hits and I love this song. Check out some of his other hits including, We'll Be Together, Shape of My Heart, If You Love Somebody Set Them Free, Fortress Around Your Heart, and many more!💖💖
Love him with The Police and as solo. The music of my youth. I was lucky enough to see him live last week with the Pittsburgh Symphony. For a man in his 70s, he still has the most powerful voice. Such an English gentleman. He puts on a great show!
Definitely a beautiful song...my fave of his solo work...Eva Cassidy does the most beautiful cover of this I really think you'd love it...it makes me cry
He said, "Among the fields of barley..." Barley, like wheat, has a golden hue when ready for harvest. This is the love story of a barley farmer and his love. They spoke of promises and how the years had passed. "See the children run...." Eventually, he spoke "You'll remember me when the west wind blows upon the fields of barley..." which, I suppose describes how, after he has gone, she can remember him and their lives on their barley farm. In this way, it is a simple but beautiful story of life, marriage, children, death and remembrance. Sting sang it very well, naturally, and the orchestration was beautiful as well.
Something about this song .gets me every time sting is simply a phenomenal singer songwriter another-and he has many - fortress around my heart. Stunning song . one lesser known but poignant piece is a song he wrote for an artisan guitar builder he came to know quite by chance Mr John Montaleone in which the piece is titled Montaleone again a beautiful piece
Shawn and Mel, I am so happy you're discovering a true genius. I don't say that lightly. I love this man❤️Please listen to an earlier song called "Fragile".
This song is Sting's modern version of a very traditional British thing - barley songs. These are songs about wandering about in the fields, meeting some lovely and willing stranger, and making whoopie under the big sky. There are songs of this type from all the way back in the Middle Ages. They're connected to an ancient belief that making love in a plowed field will encourage the crops to grow strongly and well. :)
Sting is another one of my favorites! I think you would love going down this rabbit hole. He was the lead singer of a band called The Police. They had a lot of great hits. A really innovative band. Then he went on to have his own solo career. He had many great songs and albums. His lyrics can be sometimes be gentle and tender like this song or be very thought provoking, powerful and right to the point. He has so many songs that I love I can't even pinpoint one or two to recommend. I am excited to see if show more of him on the channel in the future! Wonderful show today guys, loved all the reactions.
I got to see Sting on the "Nothing Like the Sun" tour in 1988... phenomenal performer with a top-notch band backing him. This was when Sting was at the heights of his solo powers.
Sting used to be with a band called the "Police" before he went solo and they had many hits. "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" Is indeed magic and "Wrapped Around her Finger" is a lovely song too. And Mel, I do believe there are spirits on this Earth, well, I know there are. I had one come up behind me at my sister's apt. and it felt like they touched me on the shoulder; it gave me a feeling of peace like I had never felt before. It told me (without speaking a word) that everything was going to be OK. And then it left. I think it was my uncle Bobby who died of brain cancer. RIP uncle Bobby.
"Fields of Gold" was a top forty hit for Sting in 1993 and perhaps the culmination of his solo career after the break up of the legendary band he fronted from 1977 to 1984, The Police, who were famous for songs such as "Roxanne", "Message in a Bottle", "Walking on the Moon", "Every Breath You Take", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", and "Spirits in the Material World" among many other hits. Sting has received 17 Grammy Awards over the course of his career. For something different, check out the bluegrass cover of "Fields of Gold" by The Petersens, an American bluegrass family band from Branson, Missouri.
Hello Shawn and Melllllll!!! My Dad who passed away in 2002 heard me playing this song and he liked it very much. I would play it for him a lot. And I was thinking that my Dad is listening to Sting!! Good memories. Thank you for all that you do. Love you guys
Dig out a rabbit hole….Sting has so many beautiful songs, this is just one masterpiece. Also you should check out the Police, where he was the lead singer.
Sting went solo and wrote and played a song 'Fortress around your Heart,' this is one of those songs you want to to hear over and over, he was in a band called the police and i loved the song 'Wrapped around your Finger, ' wonderful wonderful song from the 80's, the 80's was majical can you play these songs
Thank you!! You may also like these older songs of Sting..... "Moon Over Bourbon Street"........"Consider Me Gone". Both these songs invoke a Jazz ambience.
Well Sting is a legends between The Police and his solo career so there's so many good songs its hard to choose, this is his biggest solo hit and I love it and always have. As for the next solo Sting songs I would recommend Englishman In New York or Desert Rose as the next ones, they have different vibes than this song but are both beautiful in their own ways.
next you should do "Why should I Cry" and "Be still my beating heart" next. Stings songs are often deep and meaningful, not uncommon for them to address something like a major injustice in our world.
Please listen to Eva Cassidy's version of this song. You will not be disappointed and you will never forget it. Sting himself recognized her version as the best version of this song and shared her version with all of his musician buddies. I know you will probably not recognize her name but I can assure you she has a voice and artistry that will pierce your soul
I know most of 80s songs and always come to the result that the melodies, harmonies and instrumentation of those productions were simply better than nowadays. Young people don‘t like it , call it cheesy or outdated because they don‘t get the basics of music anymore.
"Shape Of My Heart" and "Roxanne" should be two more reactions if you go down the Sting rabbit hole! Links below. Sting is one of my all-time favorite artists. Loved him when he was with his band the Police, and love him in his solo career now! Thanks, you two! I love Sting ❤️ I hear his voice and I’m transported back in time to my high school years when he was with his band The Police. You guys need to check out Don’t Stand So Close To Me/The Police Also I don’t know if y’all are familiar with Eva Cassidy but she did a cover of Fields of Gold that is now my favorite version of the song. I’d love to see a reaction from you guys to her cover ❤️
Hello,👋First time I've been able to watch in a while been a tad busy but always trying to support you two. ✌️ I believe Eva Cassady did the best version of this, it's beautiful
What's up Shawn and Mel? I hope all is well with your entire family. I have another tribute song for both of you to react to. SADE- "BY YOUR SIDE" This woman is unique. You really feel her words. It is like she is singing directly to you. Her voice is unique! Smooth, Sultry, Rhythmic, and Sensual. Simply Sade! Glad you enjoyed Aerosmith-"Love in an elevator" and Sade- "Kiss of life"! I believe you will enjoy this also! Much love Shawn and Mel. I pick songs according to the energy and chemistry that I see between the both of you. So every song I request will be inspired in some way by what I see in you both. Again my request is Sade- "By your side" official video- 2000 it is about 4:25 minutes long. Peace and Blessings!
You know the bit in Gladiator when he returns to his love and child on his death. This song is the prequel to that whole event. Please review - Carter USM - Only Living Boy in New Cross. Or Bad Manners - Special Brew.
Hi Shawn and Mel, you seem to like everything you hear, so why not try these 2 old old songs please. Jerusalem Anthem of England (William Blake + Hubert Parry) . No 2..Prince Igor -Natasha Morozova (symphony by Alexander Borodin)......cheers, Caroline 😊🍻

Very touching, melancholy song. It touches the heart and stirs the imagination. Makes you long for a place in time in which you've never been...
So beautiful ! Makes me cry.
❤I love Sting. He gas such a beautiful voice.
One of the most meaningful, beautiful songs I've ever heard. I cry every time 😢❤
He wrote the song after buying a house near a barley field.
He said that when the sun went down, the barley field looked like gold...

Listen to Eva Cassidy’s cover of “Fields of Gold”. Sting thought it was the best version of his song and what he wanted it to be when he wrote it

I was also about to recommend to listen/react to Eva's version
Agree Eva's version is still the best
Dig out a rabbit hole….Sting has so many beautiful songs, this is just one masterpiece. Also you should check out the Police, where he was the lead singer.
There is a live version of this where sting sings it a little bit slower, he also said that Eva Cassidy's version of his song was "Brilliant"
Desert Rose and Shape of My Heart are my favorites after this beauty!

Great song. My favorites are Fragile and Russians.
Great call, if you look at my comment above that's exactly what I was talking about.
You may have heard him in the band "The Police." Lead singer and bassist.
Love watching you guys,
always puts me in a great mood 😀
Sting deserves to be a millionaire...for this song alone! Definitely, music worth paying for.
How about 'Bed's Too Big without You'
I believe Sting's favorite version of this song is the cover by Eva Cassidy!! You should listen to it, she had the voice of an angel!!!
To this day this is still the best version of this song! His voice is truly unique.
It’s all very subjective, for me and Gordon Sumner, Eva Cassidy’s version is the best.
Thank you!! You may also like these older songs of Sting..... "Moon Over Bourbon Street"........"Consider Me Gone". Both these songs invoke a Jazz ambience.

You have to listen to the police. Sting was the lead singer for the police and they were Dynamite group they're contemporaries of David Bowie
Eva Cassidy's cover is superior. Even Sting agrees that she "owns" it.

Such and Irish/Celtic song.

The whole album Dream of the Blue Turtles is fantastic. Keep Moon over Bourbon Street for Halloween and then look up who/what the song is about!
