First thing that came to mind when I saw what song they were reacting to was...Michelle Kwan skating to this. I agree with you on all of your points. Michelle's skating to Sting's Field of Gold was absolutely mesmerizing! Sting's voice is so soft and smooth here and it was perfect for Michelle!
Yes! This song always reminds me of Michelle Kwans skate with tears in her eyes. So heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. And she was dressed in gold. Beautiful!
Eva Cassidy's cover is a treasure, must watch really. Sting cried... He got me thru some rough patches in my days, especially this song. Forever grateful Sting!! ❤️👍🏽

First thing i was thinking was somebody is gonna bring up Eva Cassidy's version ....... Not a patch on Stings version but that's my opinion only guys, not bringing Eva's version down at all .... Peace xx
Sting is one of the most talented musical artists out there - both his work with The Police and his solo works. One of my favorites. Try Desert Rose or If You Love Somebody.
Guys, this is your THIRD time listening to Sting as he was lead singer in The Police through the late 70 and 80s. Arguably he’s become a huger star since he went solo and broke up the band. His songs like Russians, If You Love Somebody Set Them Free, Fragile, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You and Shape of My Hearts are must-hear tracks. As are Police songs like Roxanne, Don’t Stand So Close To Me, Message In A Bottle and So Lonely. Someone to dive deeper into in both solo and band form!
This song, poetically, is the love story of a farmer, a barley farmer, who recalls asking a woman to marry him by speaking of the promises he has made, "some that he broke," paraphrasing, but that this was one promise that he intended to keep, "...in the days still left..." or for the rest of his life. In a later verse he speaks of the present, "...see the children run as the sun goes down..." However, at the beginning and the end he mentions, "...you'll remember me..." and I take that to mean that after he has died, she can remember their years and times on their barley farm which was so golden and heavenly that even the sun with its golden brightness would be jealous. Its a lovely song, performed wonderfully. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sting is a great musician and performed as a vocalist and arranger for the rock group, "The Police" and made his fortune during the 1980s. Like many artists who have found their success and finally make the artworks they prefer rather than the popular ones that make money, I believe this was one of Sting's sincere efforts at his own artistic desire. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This was a genre I didn’t really listen to in the 90s as I was more into alternative and grunge as a teen, but I did own this album. Sting is a great lyricist. His song “When We Dance” is, in my humble opinion, perfection Edit: Yes, the instrument is a mandolin. Good ear! Same tuning as a violin, but double strings. I am a violin player and have messed around with the mandolin, but I’m not very good at it 😊
Great song and great album. Sting was the lead singer of The Police. He was also an English teacher before getting into Rock. His solo career has been quite different from The Police, much more jazz influenced. Try "We'll be Together" as a follow up, or "Be Still my Beating Heart".
Sting has publicly said that Eva Cassidy's version is his favourite. This of course is still a gorgeous song and delivered with class. But check out Eva
Loved him in Dune. Sometimes I think it's a shame he didn't do more acting, but I'd rather listen to him sing so I don't mind that's what he focused on. :)
I've been watching you guys for a while and I really have to say, I LOVE the way you guys don't just listen to a song, you experience it. The way you close your eyes and just feel it. Especially when you listen to any of my favorite songs. Including this peaceful ballad. Keep it up.
I'll probably take flak for this, but I like Sting's solo stuff more than his work with The Police (he was the guy you heard sing "Every Breath You Take". Sting is one of the most incredible lyricists of all time, and I hope you'll dive further into his solo discography. "Mad About You" is one of my favorites, as is "Fortress Around Your Heart", "Shape Of My Heart", "The Soul Cages", "Fragile", and "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You". He's a true icon.
@@Shrykespeare I just went and listened to "They Dance Alone" about the Mothers of the Disappeared. Such a stunning and moving song. I don't remember what album it was, but Sting's lyrics read like poetry. A truly great songwriter and artist that doesn't get enough credit.
You'll now want to find the Eva Cassidy version of this song. She was amazing. Also, this might be your first reaction to a solo song by Sting, but you've done a number of songs by The Police. Sting was the lead singer of that band.
You guys know Sting! He was in the Police. You reacted to their "Every Breath You Take" and "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic". This is Sting having gone solo. He had none other than Branford Marsalis (from the first family of jazz from New Orleans) on sax in his band. His music had a jazz influence. Many great songs to react to. I think "Fields of Gold" is his most beautiful. I think Eva Cassidy did a cover of this. Sting is another artist that appeared at Live Aid.
Sting's albums "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" with all the jazz collaborations and "Nothing Like the Sun" are fantastic. I need to listen to them both again. I wore them out in the 80s.
I'm astonished that after years of doing your videos this is the first time you hear about Sting . Sting is big, very very big, In fact he is one of the most important musicians of all the eighties and nineties. and he is one of the rare musicians that became much bigger after he left his original band (The Police) and had a magnificent discography. I think you should listen more to his work it's very rich
You guys should react to Eva Cassidy’s version of this song. You’ve reacted to her before (somewhere over the rainbow) so you know her magnificent voice, just imagine it with these lyrics 💗 I think I’ve read that even Sting prefers her version.
A yoga guru with a magical voice. He always wants to manifest integrity, insight and compassion. And, certainly, his music chakra is open! Beautiful song, Thanx so much, Namaste
Sting was the lead singer, bassist and primary writer for The Police. Have you reacted to them yet? They have SO MANY hits. His first solo hit was "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" also check out "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You"
You reacted to Every Breath You Take a year ago, Sting was frontman of group- one of legendary groups of 80's.I agree with a couple of comments re Eva Cassidy. Amber you need to pull her version of this on a Female Friday. It's simply amazing.
I would def add Sting's song "Russians" to your "Must Listen To" list. It is a hauntingly beautiful song that is especially poignant in light of current events.
It's soooooo funny when you say "new artist", I know why, but it still cracks me up!!! 😂 Sting and The Police have been a staple throughout my life. You cannot go wrong - the list of songs is endless by Sting alone and then you add The Police and you have a plethora of unbelievable tracks to listen to. Oh my gosh, dig in and enjoy - Englishman in New York, If you Love Somebody Set Them Free, Fortress Around Your Heart, When We Dance, Murder by Numbers, Canary in a Coalmine, When the World is Running Down You Make the Best of What's Still Around, Driven to Tears, Synchronicity I and II , So Lonely ....... and on and on it goes. It's a great ride!!!!! I can still remember the very first time I heard Roxanne - good grief, I was babysitting, put the kids to bed and decided to turn on the stereo in the living room. Never heard them before, they had just hit North America that was 1978/9. And if you love Sting, another amaziing artist to check out is David Sylvian.✌❤
Another great singer in the 80's was Steve Winwood. He was big! Jay and Amber, you'll love him. Some of his many hits are: "The Finer Things", " Back in the High Life Again", "While You See a Chance", " Valerie", "Roll With It", and " Higher Love". The great Chaka Khan sang female vocals on "Higher Love".
This song was from late in Sting’s popular period (mid-1990s), but he has been a giant in the music industry from late 1970s to today. He started with the Police and then went solo mid-1980s. His biggest other solo hits are Love is the Seventh Wave, Englishmen in New York, Desert Rose, Russians, Fragile, If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, They Dance Alone, and Brand New Day. His album Soul Cages was not popular, but it is a gem of an album about his personal life growing up - melancholy with a sea theme. It is well worth a listen. Cheers.
Sting’s solo albums and on tour has the best musicians in the world. A good friend of mine was a roadie and drum tech for Vinnie Colaiuta while he was Sting’s drummer. Then of course playing with The Police and the genius of Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. There’s a lot to dig into with his catalog.
You have listened to Sting before. He was a member of the Police, and you watched a video of them singing "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic". Same lead singer. His music, once he went solo, was absolutely wonderful. Some of the albums that captured me were "The Dream of the Blue Turtles", "Nothing Like the Sun", Mercury Falling", etc....all incredible and filled with songs that speak to your soul.
Can’t believe you guys are just now getting to Sting!!! With the Police, his voice is uniquely haunting. Musically, he was all over the map…from his punk, ska and rock explorations with the Police, to the jazz, euro-folk, and pop leanings of his solo work….you have a long rabbit hole ahead with this artist.
Fortress Around Your Heart is my favorite from Sting. Amazing lyrics and one of the best choruses you’ll ever hear. Almost nobody has reacted to it….perfect for RSR!!
I didn't fall in love with Sting until this song, which I love so much I want it played at my funeral. This album "Ten Summoner's tales" was huge, then I started listening to his other albums, and then I became a Police Fan. The Police had a reunion tour in 2008, they had broken up in the 80s and didn't do anything new but did a tour. The concert was probably the only concert I attended where I knew the words to every song. Was incredible. I love Sting so much I saw him on his brand new day tour on each coast. Great artist. Glad you guys discovered him and this was your first reaction.
Sting has even said Eva Cassidy's version of this song is the best version there is. It's hard to believe it's even the same song, in comparing. Hers is so much richer.
So beautiful, have always loved this song...such beautiful word pictures. I really am walking in fields of barley and can even feel the warm sun on my arms.

Beautiful!
“Losing” only has one “o” when you are talking about a loss.
I think she skated to the Eva Cassidy version of this song. I could be wrong.
Eva Cassidy's cover is a treasure, must watch really. Sting cried...
He got me thru some rough patches in my days, especially this song. Forever grateful Sting!! ❤️👍🏽
I love Eva Cassidy singing this song and another one of my favourites that she sings is ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’. You really need to check her out. She was amazing
@@kimcook991 100% 👍🏽
YES- Eva Cassidy is literally an angel
First thing i was thinking was somebody is gonna bring up Eva Cassidy's version ....... Not a patch on Stings version but that's my opinion only guys, not bringing Eva's version down at all .... Peace xx
I came here to say exactly this. Eva Cassidy's cover is the definitive version of this beautiful song. It will bring tears to your eyes.
Sting is one of the most talented musical artists out there - both his work with The Police and his solo works. One of my favorites. Try Desert Rose or If You Love Somebody.
I lovvvve Desert Rose 🏜️🌹
Sting was always excellent but came into his own particularly in his solo work. Right from ' An Englishman in New York'.
You should view the Eva Cassidy cover of stings original song, it is a must.
Eva Cassidy did a great cover version of this song; would be a great pick for Female Friday.
Your girl, Eva Cassidy did a great cover of this....
My favorite Sting song is Shape of My Heart.
It's two people falling in love and having a family. It's the antidote to "Every Breath You Take"
I think "If you love somebody, set them free" is the antidote to "Every breath you take".
So soft and passionate ... this is STING at his LEVEL BEST !
You guys should hear and watch him sing Desert Rose. Absolutely stunning 🤩
Yes!!
I totally agree..!!! I also love the song “Brand New Day” from the same CD.
Eva Cassidy did a cover that Sting himself said was the best version.
Yes, it's a beautifull song. Even more so when Eva Cassidy sang it. Sting absolutely loved her cover. RIP, Eva.
We played Eva Cassidys version for my Daddys funeral. Both versions have been hard to ear ever since.
This was a genre I didn’t really listen to in the 90s as I was more into alternative and grunge as a teen, but I did own this album. Sting is a great lyricist. His song “When We Dance” is, in my humble opinion, perfection
Edit: Yes, the instrument is a mandolin.
After The Police, Sting had a successful solo career and several acting jobs. I still remember his role in "Dune". Pure evil. ☮❤🎶
Loved him in Dune. Sometimes I think it's a shame he didn't do more acting, but I'd rather listen to him sing so I don't mind that's what he focused on. :)
Don't forget Quadrophenia.
And don't forget "Lock, stock and two smoking barrels"
@@georgegraves8125 Brimstone and Treacle, Artemis '81, Stormy Monday, The Bride.
This song to me is about the moment you get to heaven and are reunited with your loved ones.
Eva Cassidy who died at a young age was an upcoming singer. She sings this song so beautifully. You may want to add her sometime on Female Friday.
They have already reacted to her twice before, but I think it is time to listen to her again.
I've been watching you guys for a while and I really have to say, I LOVE the way you guys don't just listen to a song, you experience it. The way you close your eyes and just feel it. Especially when you listen to any of my favorite songs. Including this peaceful ballad. Keep it up.
The Sting and The Police are Rock and Roll Royalty ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You'd love Sting's song Fortress Around Your Heart. Great lyrics as well as mesmerizing melody.
I prefer Sting's solo work also. It was just better. And he evolved as a songwriter.
@@danalyntuthill1538 I remember hearing "Shape of My Heart" at the end of the movie "Leon (The Professional)". Such a perfect song.
@@Shrykespeare I just went and listened to "They Dance Alone" about the Mothers of the Disappeared. Such a stunning and moving song. I don't remember what album it was, but Sting's lyrics read like poetry. A truly great songwriter and artist that doesn't get enough credit.
@@danalyntuthill1538 I can answer that. It was off Nothing Like the Sun, which I used to own on CD.
HOW have you not done any Sting/The Police yet? They were HUUUUUGGE!!!! Sooo much incredible music down this rabbit hole. 🙌
Sting is big, very very big,
In fact he is one of the most important musicians of all the eighties and nineties. and he is one of the rare musicians that became much bigger after he left his original band (The Police) and had a magnificent discography.
I think you should listen more to his work it's very rich
You guys should react to Eva Cassidy’s version of this song. You’ve reacted to her before (somewhere over the rainbow) so you know her magnificent voice, just imagine it with these lyrics 💗 I think I’ve read that even Sting prefers her version.
i agree.
Her version is angelic. 🥰
Yes!!!!
Also agree. Eva's "Fields of Gold" is revelatory
Sting said that she sang it better than he did.
His first solo hit was "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" also check out "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You"
Now you need to listen to Eva Cassidy’s version of Fields Of Gold. Sting said it’s the best version of his song he’s ever heard.
Love knowing these songs will never die! Songs released in the 60’s is still on the radio❤❤❤❤
Sting wrote and released this song in 1993
This was released in the 90's, though
"Are" still on the radio.
Please, please, listen to "Russians".... Keep in mind that it was written in the mid '80's...... but still very poignant
"Brand New Day"and I love Stings rendition of " Little Wing "
Everything in Sting’s solo catalog is so soulful and moving. One of my top artist❤😊 Great reaction😊
Eva Cassidy really sings the soul out of this song. Angelic.
Fortress Around Your Heart is my favorite from Sting. Amazing lyrics and one of the best choruses you’ll ever hear. Almost nobody has reacted to it….perfect for RSR!!
Yes, one of his best in my opinion!
My favorite, too. I’d love for them to react to it!
Read the lyrics while listening to this song. It is so beautiful written.
Sting was the lead singer of the Police. He has a ton of solo hits.
You've done a couple of Police songs, which Sting is the lead singer. Solo Sting is a different vibe though.
Eva Cassidy - "Fields of gold", "Wade in the water".
Beautiful song 💕💕💕
Eva Cassidy does a fantastic cover too !
Sting has even said Eva Cassidy's version of this song is the best version there is. It's hard to believe it's even the same song, in comparing. Hers is so much richer.
Eva Cassidy version of “Fields Of Gold” is the best!
It’s Sting’s song…but even he thinks so ;)
Eva really brings the feelings of this song to the forefront . Miss her so much what a talent she was
This song always makes me emotional everytime I hear it start 🥺 So beautiful..
Wonderful song from the former bassist for The Police!
So beautiful, have always loved this song...such beautiful word pictures. I really am walking in fields of barley and can even feel the warm sun on my arms.
