      The method of creating that visual effect would be easy for one camera if all the specs were known beforehand, but almost impossible for "all cameras", in the sense that you wouldn't be able to perform it live with just anyone watching and using whatever high framerate slow-motion function their phone is capable of. Not even to mention, one person taking a single high shutter speed image.
      Truly beautiful, but I don't think we'll be seeing much more of that.
      Very risky.

      - I liked the act but it didn't fell "magical" enough for my taste. I think we can even hear the spinning blades of the hologram gadget during the video. The moment of apparition and vanishing of that thingamajig was edited out. And the mentalism part of the routine felt too forced. As far as we know, the names could have been written in the whiteboard from the get go or disguised as tattoos for Terry to read, for instance (or even written in the marker, but we've seen something like that in Fool Us!).
      - Anyways, I prefer to believe that Terry was not aware and the names were actually transmitted to his brain by some of the means you mentioned. I also agree with that the final reveal was anticlimactic.
      - Lol at the "these guns" commentary 🤣

      Google - spinning led hologram. Pretty easy effect tho he made into a nice integrated performance. Also i didn't like his prediction at the end. To me it showed the result was forced by the magician. Detracts from the performance in this case IMO.

      Those tattooed letters are his magic trick cheat sheet 😜 The hologram concept needs to be used again somehow, even if not central to the next trick, otherwise he will get railed if his trick is mediocre plus he omitted the aspect the judges were blown away with initially. My wife and I are on a list to attend an AGT in the audience. Hope it works out. But with the delta variant creeping up around the US, including LA (AGT is filmed next door in Pasadena) who knows what will happen to live tapings.

    I think he should cut the prediction reveal at the end. I feel like he tried to squeeze in an extra reveal but sacrificed the narrative. The story arc of the trick is that the judges had free selection and then he read their minds and transmitted it to the host, but then he tries to change the story at the very end to ‘I knew it all along’.
    I think telling a good story is a part of magic that a lot of performers overlook.

    Regarding the issue with the FOOL US Reaction videos, my understanding is that you can't straight use their original video to fill x% of the Screen.
    But what you CAN do is show yourself directly watching their video and reacting to it.
    In other words, rearrange your camera so that instead of inserting your facial image in a corner of their video, you camera sees both you and their video on it's own monitor together.
    Yeah, it shouldn't make a difference but I think the issue is that if you are use their video directly it's infringement but if you show their video on a screen in your cameras background, then it's considered fair use since you are not directly using their video.
    I'll look to see if I can find the YT video that explained the legal differences and how viewing in the back ground was a viable defense. Just something to consider.

      @zaibian7 3 года назад +2

      Its cool, but it's a 2D LED fan display as it's not volumetric. It creates a floating 2D image using persistence of vision so that the image from the LED's are visible but the thin, fast spinning blades are not. It's similar to Peppers Ghost where an image is projected onto smoke or reflected off a sheet of glass. The '3D hologram' description is a bit of... creative hyperbole, advertising gimmick, lying. There's a lot of it about these days, like the mini AC (AC stands for Air Cooler not Air Conditioner) that keeps popping up on my Facebook page. Or, hoverboards that don't actually hover and in no way resemble the hoverboards from back to the future. The cool thing about these is that you can have a wall of fans... if that is the right word, arranged in a grid and synchronised to create a single large image floating in the air. Mind you, holding one in your hand is a little hazardous. You will have to be very aware of where the blades are to avoid hitting anything, as they are hard to see even up close. One impressive thing with the act is that there was almost no image flicker or gap like you see on Jason's phone. You can only get rid of it by adjusting the shutter settings on the camera, so there was a little cooperation from the video crew there.

    I have a question: why do you think the two names that Terry (apparently) wrote are written so differently?

    • @andrewtomlinson5237
      @andrewtomlinson5237 3 года назад +1

      II don't think they are that different. Had he been writing them on a flat LEVEL surface you'd probably see little difference. As he hands over the board, it's an annoyingly brief shot, but you can just see that the writing surface WAS facing the audience immediately prior and was blank.
      I think that there is a bit of clever distraction going on in the "How did he do it" part of this trick, such as forcing people to think, "Hold on... the first names are both four letters, and the surnames are both THREE letters, that can't be a coincidence!!!"
      It's not a coincidence... it's a deliberate distraction.
      Unless he had a very faint __ __ __ __ / __ __ __ drawn twice on the panel for Terry to fill in the blanks, (or photosensitive ink that would vanish after a few seconds) but I don't know how many AGT finalists have had 4/3 letter names... But if that's how he did it, that would be REALLY cheesy... and I mean REALLY CHEESY.

    • @goldeneddie
      @goldeneddie 3 года назад

      @@andrewtomlinson5237 Not that different Andy, really? If you stop it at 9:10 you can see they are VERY different. One is heavy and straight, with a dot above the 'i', the other is light and scrawly, with no dot.

    • @andrewtomlinson5237
      @andrewtomlinson5237 3 года назад

      @@goldeneddie But the handwriting is very similar. The difference is in the tip of that huge chunky marker pen. Believe me when I say that this trick did not involve anyone else writing on that board, or it certainly didn't NEED to, unless they wanted to perform it in a needlessly complicated and potentially risky way in front of a live audience. Kevin's on and off manipulation of the hologram device had already been a bit... clunky... I doubt his ability to switch out boards would have been any better. And if you think that someone had written those names other than Terry... why? If Terry didn't write them and didn't say anything like, "hold on those weren't the names I thought of..." he was clearly "In on it" so why not just get him to write the names??? I think you are reading far too much into it.
      But that might be what they want. Because the simplest solution is also the most mundane, and obvious solution. And we know from the final reveal that the name cards were forced on the judges...

    • @goldeneddie
      @goldeneddie 3 года назад

      @@andrewtomlinson5237 Well, I know it's not part of the method (I used to perform) which is why I originally asked the question that you're asking now - *Why* would they be written differently? I can think of no reason related to the method, but - seriously - they do look quite different. So why would that be? I thought about the pen too, but it's a radical difference, and interestingly we only see Terry write in the centre of the board. Just makes me wonder.

    Filming of the spinning hologram "screens" don't look good (it shows aliasing and artifacts that your eye doesn't see), so most likely AGT edited the image, replacing it with a clean image. That's why the image was so eye-poppingly stunning--it was edited into a perfect, bright, and quite impossible image.

    My 2 cents as a video pro: the 3D animation is enhanced and cleaned up for the TV audience, the light he’s holding is used as tracking device so to attach the 3D animation to his hand, while those who see it live on stage see the images from a spinning Persistence of Vision holographic device. It’s not as beautiful as the enhanced version, but good enough for the live audience.

    Stay away from the holograms. Mentalism should feel very minimal. This was far too gimmicky and technological, kind of ruins the purpose, IMO.
    The idea of mentalism is that you’re reading someone’s actions, choices, manipulating those things, etc, and when using so much gimmicky shit, it makes it feel like a magic trick: whether or not that is human sleights or technological trickery. That looked like a rough trick but he pulled it off so smoothly. Also the "hologram" part (EDIT: looks like there was some strategic editing on the part of AGT, to hide when he brought the device out but apparently he was holding a fan the mimics the look of a hologram when viewed from the front). As far as how he communicated to Crews which names to write, I can only guess that it was written on the side of the pen - it was a big pen, and some sort of markings can be seen on it 9:05 when Crews turns the board around to show what he wrote.

    Ok, where to start. The ending with his picture under simon's cup, cheesy after the fact. If a picture, then maybe one of simon or terry.
    Now, the passage tattooed on his arm. I know some who practice their art who are also totally enamored with the kabbala and would have a key phrase from the keys of solomon tattooed on their arm or above their heart. It might be the page that invokes spirits for what he desires to accomplish.
    Notice when he fanned the cards, he stopped at a point for each of the ladies so they would only have that area to pick a card and since we did not see all of the faces to the cards, I suspect that in a couple of spots in the "deck" that there would be a bunch of the same card so each lady is sure to pull the card he wants them to pull.
    Halographic imaging is becoming more and more complex so that if he had an oscillating generator using his body as an antenna and then aim the desire images to the hands so it would react with the specified frequencies needed to produce the image, that would be one way that it can be done and seen by all there in real life. If, in fact, he is actually using this method, then for sure he should not do it very often as it does cause radiation burns to the skin and can cause deep tissue and nerve damage.

      This is the forced pick technique. If anyone "helped" it would have had to been Terry. Out of all the contestants he could have picked, what are the chances he would write down the exact correct ones? It always bugs me when they pick a judge or Terry to be part of the act.

    Forced picks: deck of photos with, say, 6 unique photos at the bottom to suggest they are "all different". On top of those are 10-15 Lin cards together and 10-15 Kode cards on top of those. Fan each respective cluster to Heidi & Sophia to force their "random" pick. The card under Simon's cup (I agree, pretty superfluous) was a preset based on the forced picks. Terry's participation was either per agreement for him to "help" with the act, or else subliminal (on pen, behind top page, conversation off stage, but still too much chance, and too many mentalists try to make you THINK they are masters of suggestion), or some editing trick where we saw Terry write those names in response to some other question which was not shown to the TV audience. I thought the hologram was cool and prolly be a signature until a judge complains about "we've already seen that".

    I think everyone (including Jason) is getting too hung up on the visual razzle dazzle. Is it cool? Yes, but shouldn't we be doing more review and/or reaction on the actual mechanics of the illusion? It was a great "performance" and considering that magic is performance art this act was great, but let's admire more of that aspect and not get hung up on the shiny bits. Just my two cents. Thanks for the video Jason!

    The special FX went from cool to cheesey pretty fast. A deck of cards and the microphone with a musical score. Those would cover a high percentage of AGT acts. Take that jacket off and he would be wearing a dress with leggings and pretty shoes. Was that a faded Polaroid at the end? I wasn't feeling his stage presence. Take away the French accent and the holograms and you get a run of the mill, crossdressing mentalist. Yes, I'm in a bad mood. On a positive note, Jason rocks!

    To me this performance came across as technically nice but quickly boring once you've seen it, the trick itself wasn't that awesome.
    Like you mentioned, showing he already knew afterwards kinda kills it like... Hmm... now this trick falls apart because he basically denied his whole min reading illusion. There was no build up to raise tension which takes the amazement out of it too.
    How Terry picked the right names, I do hear what you said there and I think you're right but that's not really a secret anymore since Derren Brown and "now you see me, now you don't"
    Good trick, but it needs a bit of tweaking to leave some mystery for the audience.

    Anyhoo… I looked through your comments and didn’t see it mentioned, but I did notice on yours though that I didn’t on the others when you pointed out the box on the judges table that there were three blue lights coming out of it, I bet those lights were what made his hologram brain happen and the mechanism was hidden inside the box. Which also tells me that I think they had some knowledge before filming, which could also be the reason that Terry knew what the photos were!

I don't mind critics from people but as I said you sound very jealousy . we should be in his level of expertise or at least close to his level to give him proactive advices to improve himself not just a RUclips video to tell people how they can improve themselves. sorry I sounds very critical to you but you said you will hear what we think ....

    Ok, so the reveal at the end obviously shows that both cards were forced. Even a superlame stack would work, as he never shuffled or showed the deck (apart from a couple of cards). The fancy 3d led display was attached to the chair, using it was a nice idea, but no skills needed from the magician. Since the cards were forced, Terry was an easy stooge. This trick was flat as hell, a complete beginner could do it after a couple of hours of practice.

    I’m confused as to why a show called America's Got Talent allows people from other countries to compete? Doesn't that completely contradict the title of the show? Anyway mentalist acts always make me cringe. Clearly he uses Jedi magic when having the judges choose a card and Terry is most likely a stooge in the act. The hologram thing was cool but probably just a gadget that you get online that he created a video to watch.

  • @stevenbutler7915
    @stevenbutler7915 3 года назад

    Yeah I didn't like the card reveal at the end with the prediction. It really indicates that he was using some Jedi powers on the judges. Especially since he didn't do any work really (or maybe it was edited out for time) to make the judges selection seem fair. I am just not sure how he got Terry to write down the names. Since he was using Jedi powers on the judges he could have done some pre work. Really just kind of wish he did more to disguise the Jedi mind tricks. Those visuals were pretty cool though. I hope he does a much larger projection or maybe even multiple projections in his next performance. It would be cool if he could pick a musician or some other famous person from the mind of the judges and then have a projection of them on stage.

For what i have seen...the basic card trick from that performer is easy to figure out...its a siple trick that i dont like because terry was involved in this trick (he was told by the magician the two names he had to write down..look at is acting and you can see his not authentic reaction in his face...and that is a too easy fake for calling it a magic trick or mentalism). But the visual effect looks great.
    But for being such a simple trick it is not even worth to make a reaction video about it !!!

  • @kenmolinaro

    I'm a bit surprised that how he did it is a mystery to anyone. You can see what he's holding and you see how he takes off the back of the chair Terry is sitting on, and how he puts it back there. It is a transparent display and borderless display. You can buy TVs that are transparent. When off, they are just like a window. But they have a border because that is where the non transparent power and other bits are located. For this one, the non-transparent bit is in the middle, where he is holding it and his hand prevents you from noticing that bit.
    The whole brain idea transfer thing is just a basic forced choice on the card pick. As soon as you realize they did not pick random cards, but instead exactly the two he wanted them to pick, there's no mystery to how anything else happened.
    Well almost. Terry naming them makes me think Terry was in on it and was instructed to write those names, and was asked before hand to be part of the act.

    I DID see Terry's arm move for "LIM" at the ending shot of him writing, so he definitely wrote it.
