The spell they were doing was to find demons, so one explanation could be that Tara was trying to protect Willow from danger, or doesn't think Willow is ready for that level of magic.
Probably correct or can be the unit over self. There are many people that find their identity by belonging to a group. The Brotherhood of shared sacrifice forged by battle is s a strong bond. That bond does not like to be severed unless it’s by an acceptable Army wife that understands Soldier first and foremost.
I think it's more jealousy of some chick cutting in on the friendship they have. Many guys can have a close friendship, like brothers, and not deal well with someone else getting into the mix. These guys go deeper with the whole soldier brotherhood bond thing they all got goin' on. I also think the guys all took enough cues from Maggie that Forest might have taken her lead in not liking or trusting Buffy, which might have triggered a protective streak in Forest as well.
I love that when Buffy goes on patrol she goes to Slay 🗡and slay💅. Also the alliance between Spike and the Scooby Gang, even if not by choice, is just too funny. It is interesting how Frankenstein's Monster meets a little girl and kills her in the book and Adam meets a little boy and kills him. Though Frankenstein's monster didn't mean to kill the little girl. Anya and Xander are so sweet together. Willow and Tara bonding.
Maggie's death comes as a surprise because it was a surprise. The character was set to be the season's big bad, but had to drop suddenly due to scheduling conflicts. I'm not sure how much of Adam's storyline was created after she had to drop.
id read recently that the actress that played maggie walsh was suprised her character died so early, that there were other factors at play tho i cant remember exactly what they were.

She said that Joss had plans to kill her and bring her back, which I guess he technically did lol producer Doug Petrie has said: "It's very much a Frankenstein story wherein someone creates a monster and then the monster is out of their control. That's what this was. We knew from the beginning that Maggie Walsh was going to be killed by her own creation. Then we got Lindsay Crouse, the great Lindsay Crouse. This is the episode where sadly she shines the most and this is her best episode. As often happens, just when things really start cooking, they've got to go. She's one of the bigger names that we've gotten on the show and we know that we had her for a limited time, so there was a practical consideration as well. It's very much in the vein of Frankenstein's monster and we felt it essential that the first thing the monster do is kill its creator - to hand over the baton as it were and give someone else the villain's mantle for season four."

You really don’t know what a slayer is is such a baller line. And yes, Spike turning into the bad guy who can’t be bad is such a good arc. There’s so much I can’t say, but in this house we love Spike.
I think the charitable reason to read it was she intentionally sabotages that particular spell for what it does . Tara seems to be supportive thus far to Willow in whatever she needs and uses magic as the main avenue to facilitate that relationship . That’s what Willow needs from her initially and her support second .
I don't know how it just dawned on me that when Buffy turned around in bed to make sure Riley was still there, it wasn't just about Parker (the more recent jerk who used her) but also Angel, or rather Angelus, who also left her when they slept together :(
I love you guys, and am enjoying the Buffy and Angel reactions very much. Once you finish these series, I highly recommend trying “Penny Dreadful” next. It is a fantastic gothic horror series created by John Logan, with amazing actors including Eva Green, Rory Kinnear, Timothy Dalton, Harry Treadaway, Josh Hartnett, and Billie Piper. It is more adult oriented than Buffy or Angel and very gay friendly. I think you would both love it.
The I In Team shows us Prof Walsh's real intent revealed. We also see Willow suspecting that not all is well with The Initiative. Spike of course is gradually beginning to rely on The Scoobies, and they can use him as an ally too, but at this point do we trust him. At the end Adam of course stabs Walsh clean through with his arm spear and says 'mummy', we are not too upset by this after she set up Buffy to die, and spied on Buffy and Riley having sex. Obviously Adam is a homage to the Frankenstein type monster the secret of 314. We see the Willow/Tara relationship start to build, and also the Anya/Xander one too which is comedy gold, revealing all their intimate secrets.
S4 or as I like to call it, The Sci-Fi Season is fantastic. BTVS really knows who it is as a show and where it's going at this point, peak storytelling!

I love 4..it’s the very center of the Buffyverse, with 3 more seasons left, all the kids are just exploring themselves and others in college, it’s full of humorous episodes, and has yet another super strong plot line with loads of character development..

Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Thursday evening with Sergio and Cody! We're pretty much close, if not at the halfway point for the season. Episode 4x13: The opening poker scene with Willow, Xander(who has a new job), and Anya is one of my favorite moments. Professor Walsh not really trusting Buffy. She sets Buffy up. Also love seeing Spike with the Scoobies. And we find out at the end what Professor Walsh was creating behind that secret door. Episode 4x14: We get to see more of Willow and Tara. Buffy and Xander infiltrate the Initiative to learn about Professor Walsh's secret project: Adam. Looking forward to the reactions for next week's episodes. 😊
Great reactions. It’s outstanding how you pick up details that are generally overlooked. ( Buffy waking up in the red sheets was an excellent example). One point that is often overlooked in the journey for Buffy is the barriers created for her by the administrative state. The Mayor and the local government tried to stop Buffy . Buffy is the individual trying to become independent and strong. The state demands compliance in exchange for control. Now we have the people in Washington. Of course they have soldiers following orders. It’s all under the guise of safety and security. Remember in Hush, Walsh told her troops to patrol the town to keep order, not try to solve the problem. Buffy wearing the halter is a great visual. She is different. She is not in uniform and is not uniform. These two episodes illustrate the state versus the individual debate. Follow the state and you will be given what you are told to believe is needed and morally right. You will be part of a group and cared for while you are a part of the collective. Buffy is the individual. There are no guarantees. No safety net and your path is unclear. But you are an individual that has personal freedom of choice. Security versus liberty. Only one can prevail. What do you choose. A cared for and safe zoo animal or a free creature with only yourself to survive?

Goodbye Iowa a very average episode, but sets up the later half of S4 now we have established that Walsh was planning something very sinister with her creation Adam, and not only experimenting on the HSTs, but also the Commandos of The Initiative, as Riley is having symptoms of poisoning. Some great little comedy moments with Xander again, and of course to homage to the original Frankenstein when Adam meets the child.
Best part of these two episode is Buffy showing Walsh she's still alive while outing herself to Riley, with a close second as Spike trying, once again, to do an American accent, before saying, "Bugger it. I'm your guy."
*sigh* I’m an outlier in that I usually rank S4 higher than most, but the one part of it that really derails for me is when we start seeing a repeat of themes from earlier seasons, but using Riley instead of Buffy to tell them. He should never not be the lynchpin of the plot, in her show. Even when Angel was a huge element, it was always about what his story meant in terms of Buffy’s development. I don’t find that to be present with Riley plots.
Forrest is 100% in love with Riley - at least, that has always been my theory I 100% love that even before the you started episode 13, you knew Walsh was concerned about control. Your instincts are so on point!

Why do Buffy’s relationships always have to be so dramatic? She can’t catch a break. Willow & Tara 😊 Willy the bartender! Riley is losing it. Undercover Buffy & Xander. Not Riley shoving Willow! That’s it he can go now. I knew they were drugging the soldiers. Bio-demonoid Adam. Brothers? The subtle “doctor” before Adam took him out was hilarious to me for some reason 😂 Adam clearing house! Spike getting jumped by demons & his tv is broken 😢 Everyone’s been going through it. Crazy couple of episodes. Loving the journey with y’all 🖤
The next two episodes are, in my opinion, the _highlight_ of the season. Actually, I’d like to include the last episode as well. You both are going to get your lives!
Originally Professor Walsh Was supposed be Still around But ....Actress .Playing Professor Walsh wanted out her contact ....So Adam was the last minute that's why it feels rushed ..Also i enjoy your reactions
Walsh is the Buffyverse's Walmart-version Amanda Waller of the DC Universe. She had the government backing, sketchy operation protocols, HIGHLY-QUESTIONABLE intentions, and skewed moral compass. But, she lacked the near-omniscient foresight to allow her to remain multiple steps ahead and prepare contingencies for any situations--ranging from A-to-Z, and the commanding presence that makes the CRAZIEST, MOST-SADISTIC psychopaths think twice, THEN thrice, about the IDEA of crossing her. Walsh could've gone on to be the most powerful human in the world, had she not put too much dip on her chip and jumped so quickly in double-crossing Buffy and the Scoobies.
I hated the sex/violence montage. Dr. Angleman was named after someone I knew who unfortunately had mental issues. But he chose Angleman to mock the people who kept posting, "Angle is a hottie!" The Polgara demon is named after one of my closest friends at the time. She had become good friends with writer David Fury, as did two of her best friends, one of which later actually became a TV writer/Executive Producer. George Hertzberg (Adam) is a nice guy, which is good, as he's only 6'5". Though we don't see much of Adam yet, we have seen a bit of my big problem with him.
You guys have made it through every bad episode in the series. From now on only mid episodes, great episodes, home runs and grand slams are on the menu.
I love Riley, and don't like Tara. She is a prop, not a character, and Amber Benson is not a good actress who could fill the void and make Tara shine regardless.

Best part of these two episode is Buffy showing Walsh she's still alive while outing herself to Riley, with a close second as Spike trying, once again, to do an American accent, before saying, "Bugger it. I'm your guy."

*sigh* I’m an outlier in that I usually rank S4 higher than most, but the one part of it that really derails for me is when we start seeing a repeat of themes from earlier seasons, but using Riley instead of Buffy to tell them. He should never not be the lynchpin of the plot, in her show. Even when Angel was a huge element, it was always about what his story meant in terms of Buffy’s development. I don’t find that to be present with Riley plots.

Not Riley’s friend accusing Buffy. Why do Buffy’s relationships always have to be so dramatic? She can’t catch a break. Willow & Tara 😊 Willy the bartender! Riley is losing it. Undercover Buffy & Xander. Not Riley shoving Willow! That’s it he can go now. I knew they were drugging the soldiers. Bio-demonoid Adam. Brothers? The subtle “doctor” before Adam took him out was hilarious to me for some reason 😂 Adam clearing house! Spike getting jumped by demons & his tv is broken 😢 Everyone’s been going through it. Crazy couple of episodes. Loving the journey with y’all 🖤

Originally Professor Walsh Was supposed be Still around But ....Actress .Playing Professor Walsh wanted out her contact ....So Adam was the last minute that's why it feels rushed ..Also i enjoy your reactions
Walsh is the Buffyverse's Walmart-version Amanda Waller of the DC Universe.
She had the government backing, sketchy operation protocols, HIGHLY-QUESTIONABLE intentions, and skewed moral compass.
But, she lacked the near-omniscient foresight to allow her to remain multiple steps ahead and prepare contingencies for any situations--ranging from A-to-Z, and the commanding presence that makes the CRAZIEST, MOST-SADISTIC psychopaths think twice, THEN thrice, about the IDEA of crossing her.
Walsh could've gone on to be the most powerful human in the world, had she not put too much dip on her chip and jumped so quickly in double-crossing Buffy and the Scoobies.
So the WB didn't want any gay or lesbian action so Joss uses magic as a euphemism for sex. So they are going to do a "spell" 😜
I would like to go on record as saying Adam is the 6th worst big bad of the the series and season 4 weaker for it. I said what I said 😸😸😸.
I hated the sex/violence montage.
Dr. Angleman was named after someone I knew who unfortunately had mental issues. But he chose Angleman to mock the people who kept posting, "Angle is a hottie!" The Polgara demon is named after one of my closest friends at the time. She had become good friends with writer David Fury, as did two of her best friends, one of which later actually became a TV writer/Executive Producer.
George Hertzberg (Adam) is a nice guy, which is good, as he's only 6'5".
Though we don't see much of Adam yet, we have seen a bit of my big problem with him.

You guys have made it through every bad episode in the series. From now on only mid episodes, great episodes, home runs and grand slams are on the menu.

I love Tara! I can’t stand Riley. He was just a weak ass character and came off as stupid.
I love Riley, and don't like Tara. She is a prop, not a character, and Amber Benson is not a good actress who could fill the void and make Tara shine regardless.
