I bought her cd at 14 back when it first dropped. I found her on bets old love zone that came on late night. It was her should I stay video. That's how I found most of the hidden R&B neo souls artist that didn't get tons on shine.

It was produced by Chico DeBarge who was doing the neo soul sound before D Angelo,Erykah Badu and all the others who have been credited with birthing the whole neo/nu soul movement but unfortunately,chico got locked up on a possesion of cocaine charge which landed him in prison during the time d angelo came out! But Chico,Erykah,and Grenique were all signed to motown by Kedar Massenberg and unfortunately when he left,Grenique got lost in the industry shuffle as the only person that survived thru the regime changs was erykah badu being that she was the most successful. I worked for motown in marketing/promotions from 92-98 and was there during the time all this took place! Just an FYI

Neo Soul version of the classic by Heatwave. Yeah Chico did do an LP before D'Angelo etc. I remember it but it seemed to be coupled with Street SOul as it was then. I remember Expansion doing a series of Comps that were also very good at that time.

@MikimuCurlyQ So did I...have no idea what happened to her though. I was really expecting more from her but the truth is we got sold on this concept of "neo-soul" then the market got saturated with these artists. It's the same trend in music today. Also this was just about the time when many artists were being dropped by their label.

Neo Soul version of the classic by Heatwave. Yeah Chico did do an LP before D'Angelo etc. I remember it but it seemed to be coupled with Street SOul as it was then. I remember Expansion doing a series of Comps that were also very good at that time.
@kotep777 I agree with you 200 percent!!! The original version by Heatwave in 1978 is the killer, whether or not it charted. Sorry George Benson, Grenique (whoever that is).

@MikimuCurlyQ So did I...have no idea what happened to her though. I was really expecting more from her but the truth is we got sold on this concept of "neo-soul" then the market got saturated with these artists. It's the same trend in music today. Also this was just about the time when many artists were being dropped by their label.
