      Great so far! Taking it slow with regards to rulings and what not. Our 3rd game session is tonight... I'll be improving again, so should be quite the adventure. :)
      Three of the Five characters have Long Bows, so getting the answer to the disadvantage within 5ft ruling was fantastic.

    Hello, not sure if you're still answering questions here, but can you talk about how firing at an enemy that is engaged in melee with one of your party members? How do you determine the risk of hitting the party member vs. the enemy?

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  2 года назад +1

      The core rules don't include friendly fire, that would be a house rule. If you have to fire past an ally of medium size at an enemy of medium size, the enemies AC increases by 2. Everything else is to hard to explain in comments.

    Now I have a pre-made sheet with me and for long bow it says "*You can shoot your longbow 150 feet or up to 600 feet with disadvantage on the attack roll", But I noticed it did not say anything about shooting under 150 feet so, would my person be incapability of doing so or can I shoot under that listed range of 150 feet.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  6 лет назад +3

      You can shoot 5 to 150 feet with your longbow, with no penalty to your attack roll. If an enemy is within melee range (0 feet) while you use the longbow you have disadvantage on the attack roll. If you shoot an enemy 151 to 600 feet away you have disadvantage on the attack roll. Hope that helps.

    Shooting one inch past your "normal" range cuts your chance to hit in half?!? That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. And I know that mathematically it isn't exactly half, but it is close enough. It should be like -5 for every 10 feet past your "normal" range or something like that.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  7 лет назад +4

      It's a game, and -5 makes just as little sense. If you want realism, then D&D is not for you, it's a fantasy game.

    • @MarvelX42
      @MarvelX42 7 лет назад

      I play D&D all the time I RUN a D&D game. I have 4 players that are quite happy. The minuses for further distance make alot more sense than an immediate halving of accuracy. It gets abit harder and then abit harder and so on the further away you shoot. Makes perfect sense to me. You could over-complicate it by taking into account wind conditions and such but that is overkill. Of course it is a game, meant to be fun and is not really realistic. One just needs to find the right balance between realism, fantasy and fun.

    • @caster-
      @caster- 6 лет назад +4

      But it is way easier to just have one modifier apply to decrease your hit rather than calculating every step of the way. If you or your players want to change that, the book encourages you to do that. But this edition tries to simplify stuff
