    I seriously have to take a moment to thank you for these videos. I am a brand new DM running a game with my friends (and my mom, because she is just that cool). These videos really help with those "Uh, I *think* that's what WoTC meant?" moments.
    One more question on this one though. I am pretty sure of the answer because of the last part you did, but I want to be 100%.
    Our Fighter dual-wields and uses Tunnel Fighter style. If he has two ranges (say, an axe and a whip or something), does he seriously get an AoT with *both* because of how TF works (given that the creature moves out of range of both, that is)? If so, that is both broken and amazing is the most wonderful way. Keeping the comment by Matt in mind, our Fighter *can* dual non-light weapons (A feat/trait he has).
    Thank you, Fred, for all your efforts making these for us. Keep rolling those 20's.

      You are welcome. Sorry it took so long to respond. The axe or whip can provoke opportunity attacks as a reaction. But you only get one reaction per round. The Fighter needs decide which weapon he will use ;)

      Hello Fred,
      Don't worry about the late reply; things come up.
      I figure I should clear my question up a bit. I know we only get one reaction per round, but Tunnel Fighter can ignore that where opportunity attacks are concerned. The description of Tunnel Fighter follows: (emphasis is mine)
      "You excel at defending narrow passages, doorways, and other tight spaces. As a bonus action, you can enter a defensive stance that lasts until the start of your next turn. While in your defensive stance, you can *make opportunity attacks without using your reaction*, and you can use your reaction to make a melee attack against a creature that moves more than 5ft while within your reach."
      Hence, a PC with two weapons/ranges *might* be allowed to attack twice. After all, the mob *did* provoke two opportunity attacks. I figured I would ask if you knew this sounded correct or if you had an idea on how to handle it.
      Thanks again.

      I believe it comes from the Unearthed Arcana installment "Light, Dark, Underdark!" I know not every DM allows/uses UA, but I like much of it as my campaign is focused mainly on fun/RP/stories.

      In 3.5/PF you would need to risk an attack of opportunity when entering an enemy's reach over 5'. It's a really common sense rule and I miss that in 5e. Reach weapons have much less advantage now, unlike real combat.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  6 лет назад

      It is always something a DM can house rule. D&D 5e is just the basics.

    You can also use the dodge action before moving away giving any opportunity attack disadvantage.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  5 лет назад

      Yes a good option. Often a better option than disengage.

    Thanks for this video. If another member of my party used a shove action to push me out of range of an enemy, do you think that would provoke an AOO?

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  3 года назад

      No. If you are forced to move there is no attack of opportunity.

  • @dazman1973

    My understanding is that a creature can only perform one opportunity attack per round? Would you agree with that Fred?

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, a creature gets one reaction so only on opportunity attack. A creature with multiple reaches can select only one of the melee attacks that will provoke an opportunity attack.

    • @MisfitSass
      @MisfitSass 6 лет назад

      yes as an oppertunity attack costs a reaction and you only get one a round

  • @Williambarela
    @Williambarela 7 лет назад +1

    this is very good. however the way you have stated means that a grappled creature being forced to move doesn't get opportunity attacks against it.
    is that right?
    I think logically it would make sense if and ally gets an opportunity attack on the enemy if it was grappled and moved.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  7 лет назад

      That is correct , being forced to move by a grappling creature will not provoke an opportunity attack. You must use your own movement, reaction or action to provoke attacks. Sorry for the late reply, only just saw this.

    Hey Fred, thanks for the videos. I have a question for you. If a pc is just holding a weapon in he's off-hand that has "reach" but he's primary weapon is not a light weapon. Can that pc use the weapon that has "reach" just for making "opportunity attacks"? This pc does not have any skills or feats that would give him benefit to this action or reaction. Thank you again Fred for your time and your videos. Have a great day.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  6 лет назад

      Matt Nerdy Most reach weapons require two hands to use. If a PC is holding a two handed melee reach weapon in one hand and another weapon in the other hand; I would not allow any of the weapons to make any attacks as a reaction (opportunity attacks). Sounds like exploiting the rules or not understanding them.

      How to D&D Good moring Fred, just got your response. Sorry Fred i should have included the weapon types in my question. Primary weapon war pick, off hand weapon whip. Same question sir, can i use the whip just for making "opportunity attacks"?

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  6 лет назад

      The answer is no. You can't duel weld weapons that are not light without a feat. A whip is not light or a war pick.

    • @HowtoRPG
      @HowtoRPG  7 лет назад +4

      Not at this time, but that doesn't stop you as DM creating different OA rules. I have been involved in martial arts for years, it's not so silly dancing around an enemy. What do you think a boxer does? Or a fencer?

    • @MietoK

      It depends of can you hit your target in 45 degree angle. If not then you can not run around your target as you would be out of reach multiple times
