Fender locking tuners: amzn.to/2XK9GjY
So today I finally got around to putting Fender locking tuners on my Fender Mexican Stratocaster. I've had the tuners for a while on one of my cheaper guitars & I love them so much I've wanted to put them on my better guitar for ages, well today's the day!
Hope you enjoy the video!

That looks great.. Do you still need to stretch new strings to stop them going out of tune or do the locking there fix that issue too? thanks
Watched this video after ordering locking tuners for my MIM strat, just to reassure myself that it is a simple job, thanks!
Simon Abell thanks for watching!
This was exactly what I needed I will order them as soon as I can thanks
great video! exactly what I was looking for. thanks man!
Dustin Miller thanks for watching!
Thanks for this! You've inspired me. I'm putting locking tuners on my MIM Strat. You left the string tree on. Does that mean you fed the two strings under the tree like before, or did you not feed the strings under the tree. It's hard to tell from the video.
I bought my artic white MIM new in 2007 as my first guitar. I'm finally going to upgrade my tuning machines and have never had locking ones. I really scored buying new on a site for $400 and barely knowing anything back then lol
Do you find they alter the balance of the guitar at all? Are they much heavier?
My brand new strat will be here this week, and I’ve been wondering if it was worth ordering locking tuners.
Awesome video. Thanks!
Using a 10mm nut driver works much better than a socket and ratchet. Some (all) of the Asian guitars use smaller diameter peg barrels and require careful drilling to get them to the right bore size.
The Fender locking tuners do look much better on your Fender guitar!Cool video, as always, Rob.
Donna I agree! Glad I did it hah, finally!
I need the smaller 2 pin staggered tuners most of all. Locking would be a plus but not necessary. Ive ordered 3 times and all 3 are the big 2 pin size and I need the smaller 2 pin size but staggered. Its for a schector strat neck and I think it had pings on it. What or who makes what im looking for? I tryin not to drill on the neck its a refret and kinda like new. Can you tell me the difference so when I order I dint make the mistake I did 3 times?????
I have a MIM strat and I've been wanting to upgrade my tuners. I love the guitar but I've gotta tune the hell out of it. This video was helpful dude. You're makin me pull the trigger and go for it finally.
I have a MIM too...stays in tune not too bad, but picking up the locking tuners today. Supposed to be a huge upgrade.
I think my american standard had better stability before putting Fenders locking tuners on. Still great though, but before the guitar could be in its case for weeks and still be in tune? May be because it was summer back then and now it's winter.. I just bought these locking tuners for the sake of it, and it makes it easier to restring..
Tie a luthiers knot and you have locking tuners
@@dingusfuzzklonnkt2755 oh yeah? That's rad, I'll have to check it out. The deed is done on the strat tho. I like the locking tuners on it, not perfect but solid tuners
i have a japanese jazzmaster from the later 90;s.. can i upgrade tuners?
Very helpful video man, thanks.. I just bought fender locking tuners today and was nervous about changing them myself. Almost took to a luthier… now i can save the €50 and be proud of myself 😂😂
I have a 1991 Mex Strat, and two of the tuners are held together right now with superglue and baking soda welds, lol.
I guess i need to upgrade too.
I thought about Fender tuners, but i already modified this guitar anyway.
I just installed some Guyker locking tuners on a Mitchel acoustic. Any preferences out there?
Which do you think is better 1.16 or 1.18
Are the tuners working good?
Nice work. I agree that the stock tuners on the MIM strats are excellent. My HB-35 on the other hand needs a set badly.
The grover tuners I got on my Gibson SG are great & they're not even locking, so I imagine a set of grover locking tuners would be amazing for your HB-35. Thanks for watching, subbed to your channel
Bro amazing video! I'm upgrading my tuners soon was gonna have someone else do it and pay 100 bucks for labor but there's no need it's much more easier to do it than what I though! Cheers bro!
Chris Lucero nah you can definitely do it yourself! Easy job, just need something to unscrew the bolts with & you’re set! As I said if you’re putting Fender tuners on a guitar that isn’t a Fender just be aware of those extra notch holes needed for the tuners to sit in!
A $100 to put on tuning machines? It takes 5 minutes
Very good guy, the video would like to know if there is much difference between these tuners made in Taiwan or in the USA? Because I bought a kit and I don't know if it's taywan or street
I just bought a set for my Mexican Strat. I'm looking forward to having the new set on.
For me it made a good thing even better 🤟
@Jerry Burnett that's my plan right there 👌
i have player mexican strat, did you have to change the string tree on urs?
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I have that same color mim strat. Love it. Even before the mods. Put on david gilmore loaded pickguard. Babicz full contact bridge. Graphtec nut and fender locking tuners and new string trees. Its now an illegal Alien
Illegal Alien is crazy 😂
Do you still need to stretch out the strings before playing?
yes
My tuning machines have a different wording for each one (L1, L2, L3, L3, L4, L4). I think it's the order but I don't know which one goes to the low E and so on... Any help please?
usually l1 should be low string
@@JulianKish thanks!
I have the exact same color mim strat. Mine was my first guitar. It’s a 1998 model. What year is yours?
No way! Mines a 99 model! Awesome to know that my guitar has a twin hah. It’s rare to see one the same 🤟
I'm convinced that I should go with these on my pawn shop squire...by the way those two " lil notches " are for the two " mini pins " behind the tuners...
Yeah I realised they were to keep the tuners straight as you tighten them on! I think they’d definitely improve your guitar for sure 🤟
Awesome 😎👍
Nice video!
Are they the ones from amazon you linked in the bio?
Nick Hutchinson they are :)
Have you seen a big improvement in your tuning staying more stable?
Thomas Patrick definitely, I mean the tuning has always been good on the guitar to start with but it’s certainly even better with the locking tuners
@@RobGalley Thanks! I'm ordering a set as we speak.
Did it love them, change over everyone it was easy.
Anytips on drilling out the holes for the locating pins?
THAxILLEST push the locking tuner with those little nubs against the back of the headstock so they make a little indent, Then mark them so you know where to drill!
@@RobGalley thanks man worked great they came out perfect
i just put locking tuners and now I am reading that I will need the string tree switched
bub, we're still unsure on that one
What tool did you use to take off the tuners
OscarA Campos just used my socket set, can’t remember off the top of my head what size part it was!
@@RobGalley how deep were the holes in the other neck
OscarA Campos about 2mm if you mean the holes for the little notches on the locking tuners ✌️
@@RobGalley yea thank you
10mm hex tool fits Fender tuners.
I thought you locked the guitar to a bike rack outside of guitar center and someone stole your knobs.
I like the stock ones better, locking ones are ugly. Regular only takes a few sec longer.
why is there a made in china sticker on back of your headstock at 11:33
The guitar shown at that time stamp is the old guitar that had my locking tuners on before I put them on my Fender, & that neck I bought off Amazon 🤟
@@RobGalley sorry the inner gear nerd in me had to say something lol
Cheers Rob!!! Like 7
Todd aka SodaPop thanks for watching Todd ✌️
These would be better on a sound design. On a strat; it defeats the purpose since you still have to put 4 or more wraps on the G-string to keep the open harmonic from chiming out EVERY ******* damn time because of the flat headstock design. That or cram a shi**y looking 3 inch piece of 10 cent foam between the strings and headstock on your limited edition 900$ fender guitar. I love my strat. However, if by design an instrument plays notes not intended by the musician, through no fault of the musician; improvement is needed. This is common with MIM and American Fenders, just look up "fender g string harmonic". They could easily start mass producing triple trees to correct the issue; but that would cost a little extra $$ (few cents per) so no dice.
Who tf takes the knobs off 😂
No guitar stays in tune no matter what. These lock systems are money pissed away!
what's wrong with a gaping hole? LOL
next upgrade. switch out your string tree for a graphtech.
sammy reynolds heard the graph tech stuff is awesome but I wouldn’t need one on this guitar, the fender locking tuners have smaller posts on the G,B & E string which makes the string tree irrelevant, I only kept it on for appearance hah!
@RobGalley the graphtechs are great. But you have to buy the plates separately because the fender design doesn't come with them. But they have plates for all the others. Odd. So it's not really an upgrade for the fender guitars.
These don’t fit on to Fender Japan guitars
As soon as I hear a British accent I know I am going to get the long winded version.
Jesus christ is coming repent choose him today he loves you. . . .
Does he play a Fender Strat?
