Other fun facts about these characters: * _Let's Go_ confirms that Oak not knowing your rival's name is a practical joke he plays on Blue. What a plot twist that would've been huh? * N's full name is Natural Harmonia Gropius. _Pokémon Masters EX_ also shows him to own Zekrom, Reshiram, and Black Kyurem, the latter having fused with Hilbert's own Kyurem. * Some Team Plasma Grunts note that Hugh's hairstyle resembles a Qwilfish. * Pokémyth busted: Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor are not your rivals in _X and Y,_ only Calem/Serena is. The only time there are even associated with rivals is in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ and even then Trevor is not a rival at all. They are there to emphasize _X and Y's_ theme of "'beauty', 'bonds', and 'evolution'", and to highlight how the chance encounters you make with people you meet, to provide opportunities to build a better world. *Calem and Serena (who aren't in the video for some reason): Calem owns a Shiny Greninja in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ which is implied to be his first partner. Serena possesses a standard Greninja, but her first partner is Fennekin. She also has a Zygarde. * Uniquely for a rival, the player will not black out in battles against Hau and the story will progress regardless of the outcome, except for battles taking place at Mount Lanakila (in _Sun and Moon)_ or the Pokémon League. He is also the only rival to have caught an Ultra Beast, as he catches a Blacephalon in _Ultra Sun_ or a Stakataka in _Ultra Moon_ at Poni Grove, though he gives it to the Ultra Recon Squad immediately afterwards. * Gladion is technically the only Rival to nickname his Pokémon, as he refers to his Type: Null as "Null". In the anime he straight up calls it "Silvally." * Hop uses a Gigantamax Corviknight in Champion tournaments, despite the fact that there is no way for him for the Rookidee he caught before the Wild Area to have the Gigantamax Factor without DLC. * Bede is the only Trainer with multiple League Cards to have his signature change between the two. He is also apparently left-handed. * Marnie possesses a Mawile that can Mega Evolve in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ despite the Galar games lacking the mechanic. * Klara originally started as an underground pop singer, but despite her best attempts at self-promotion, she only sold about eight copies of her debut album. * Coming from a family of psychics, Avery is considered by his family to be a disappointment due to him only possessing telekinesis, and not more impressive skills like teleportation or telepathy. * In Pokémon: Paldean Winds, Nemona uses a Killowattrel and a Combat Breed Paldean Tauros. As Nemona trades a Paldean Tauros to the player in the League Club Room, it's suggested Nemona used these Pokémon on her original team. * Kieran's Dragonite has the Normal Tera Type, which is never seen in normal gameplay. * Gary is the first rival to capture a Legendary Pokémon on-screen, being a Regidrago. He is also not only a rival to Ash during the original series, but was a rival to Goh during their time with Project Mew. * It is revealed in his reappearance in _Pokémon Journeys_ that Paul is more calm and happy now, as a result of the fact that he was asked to become a Gym Leader, making him want to learn more about Pokémon and their nature. * Trip is the only rival from Unova to have participated in every onscreen battle tournament within the region. However, he lost in the first round in all but one. * Cameron is the only Unova rival to use a Pokémon from outside of Generation V, being his Lucario. * Leon is the only Trainer to have used the Counter Shield technique with one of his Pokémon who did not appear in Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl. Also he didn't cheat as Eternatus appeared over Wyndon Stadium and recharged both Trainers' Dynamax Bands. * Storyboard artist Tetsuo Yajima has stated in an interview that Alain's character arc in Pokémon the Series: XY was derived in part from that of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. * Ritchie's Charmeleon becomes a Charizard in The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, but in a match against Ash's own Charizard in the Pokémon League, the latter attacked Ritchie's Charizard so severely that it was bleeding heavily from a bite wound to its neck. As a result, Ash recalled his Charizard giving Ritchie the match.
also ngl, I prefer Trace over Blue/Green, he actually saw Cubone lonely and asked it to join his team so it doesnt feel lonely but somehow that isnt considered iconic but a rival who acts like a jerk even after losing to us all the time is considered iconic
@@BluePhoenix_ It's a common guesstimate given we know 3 years separates the Kanto/Hoenn games and Johto/Sinnoh games, and 4 years separates the Unova and Alola games. We don't know how far apart Johto/Sinnoh and Unova are, but given how Caitlin goes from a young child to an adult in that time frame and that Red goes from late teens to presumably late 20s seems to suggest a wide frame of time. Also the Alola Dex entry says Porygon was developed 20 years ago, which the Pocket Monsters Encyclopedia, specifically says was in the year 1995. Since SM/USUM Red has a shirt that has "96" on the front it can be inferred the Pokémon games take place in the same year system we use, and if Porygon was developed only a year before the Kanto games took place, it can be assumed it has been 20 years since then.
N's teams being different each time is because he uses pokemon from the Local area, then releases them afterwards. Ties in with his want for them to be free/not in balls
9:48 bit of a mistake here. Trip did have a cameo in ep 117 of Journeys during Iris vs Cynthia while Cameron did not so he's the only one of Ash's rivals who did not appear in Journeys. Also while Alain was the big rival I think Sawyer should've been included.
Hop is one of the best rivals in the entire series. Bro grows along side you, has a character arc, gets a Legendary, and finally breaks free from his brothers shadow. Hop is my GUY.
@theamazingspooderman2697 Well they should because not all rivals have to be mean. Just because a rival doesn't call you mean names doesn't mean they're not good. Rivals are still characters and should have a personality, depth, story, and a backstory. Personally I think it's more interesting that way. I never liked the meaner rivals like Blue. I get that that's what most people grew up with and they like that more but the newer rivals aren't that bad imo... people are too stubborn to move on and accept the new rivals. They just want all rivals to be mean to us... smh
I figured N was using different Pokémon because he was releasing them after every battle. For one, because he’s Team Plasma, but also it speaks to his character to set his Pokémon free considering how close he is to them and how he can communicate with them.
Leon didn't cheat. Both him and Ash got an extra chance to use dynamax thanks to Eternatus. An interesting fact about Leon is that he has the biggest amount of sponsorships of any character in SwSh. He's even sponsored by Gamefreak itself. And Klara/Averi have some other pretty interesting facts too: Klara is an underground idol that even made her own merch and sadly only sold 8 copies of her first album Avery comes from a family known for always having the role of being the psychic type gym leaders of the region. Except Avery because by comparison to the rest of family, his psychic powers were considered weaker. That's why both decided to join the isle of armor dojo. To get a chance to eventually become gym leaders by training under an ex-champion. Despite this Klara/Averi actually have a fan in the isle of armor that you can interact with through the story and always says how much she admires them. It's a female dojo trainer npc that even gives you an item that she tried giving to them but that they found a bit weird. It's pretty cute and funny.
4:00 this is actually no longer true. Thanks to the indigo disk, both Nemona and Kieran have higher overall pokemon levels, with Nemona almost all of pokemon are level 86 but her paldea starter is level 87 and Kieran team having a Politoed and, Dragonite at leve, 85, Porygon, Grimmsnarl, and Incineroarat level 86, and Hydrapple being level 87 Heres a new fun fact for Barry. Barry has the rarest team among all the rivals with him. Have a Snorlax, which you can only get 3% of the time from specific honey trees and a Heracross, which also come from honey trees with a 5% chance of encountering it with only 5 trees that actually having it appear.
Actually, there is one case where Hop's Cramorant can be one level lower than otherwise, depending on your starter choice, during the battle at Stow-on-Side.
Aww that's great! It reminds me of my two cats who liked to lie next to me while I was playing video games, especially the older brother. They are no longer alive, but they helped me calm down and vice versa. I hope you will have more awesome Pokémon moments with your puppy!
A fun fact about Nemona, in the Indigo Disk DLC when invited to the League Club, she says that she's actually NOT from the Paldea region, which PROBABLY explains her different badges. And a bonus fact for Nemona, she and Lacey KNOW each other because when they were younger at some fancy party, Nemona challenged Lacey's father who Nemona confirms is Clay, right then and there to a Pokemon battle when she heard that Clay's a Gym Leader. (And Trip DID make an appearance in Journeys, although ONLY as a quick cameo with other characters like Stephan, Georgia, Bianca and Lader watching Iris's battle against Cynthia)
Technically, Kieran isn’t the first NPC who uses a Master Ball, as in the post game of Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon, all of the Evil Team Leaders have their Pokémon inside Master Balls when you battle them.
I think what he means is that Kieran is the first character shown trying to use a Master Ball to catch a Pokemon in the games. Funnily enough, there's another trainer that attempted to catch a Whishcash with a Master Ball in the anime, and like the example with Kieran, it winds up failing -- in this case because it apparently was eaten by the Pokemon he was trying to use it on. It seems like they really don't want to show people that aren't the main protagonist catching things successfully with the Master Ball (which would actually make for a neat piece of trivia to use for a facts for every pokeball video)
@@matthewkuscienko4616The AIs used master balls in the final battle and those are in fact fresh catches. The first ball that drops out of the machine is still wiggling.
Kieran isn't the first NPC to use a master ball. Earleir that same game, the AIs caught their whole team *during* the battle, and they're all in master balls. The first one to come out of the time machine is still wiggling when it drops into their hand.
You forgot to include a few rivals from the anime, like Iris, who technically was a rival to Ash since they’d often compete in the same competitions, Bianca, Stephan, and Bea.
Bonus Fact about N: If you use the Memory Transfer feature that B2W2 had (Chuggaconroy's LP is the most recent footage) to bring save data from BW over, you can catch all of the Pokemon that N used in each battle in BW! I still have them in Pokemon Home, they show N as the OT! Or at least, I still have the Darmanitan and Krookodile... I don't know where the rest of them went... Edit: After Checking Pokemon Home, I found out that I have more than just those 2, I also still have: N's Galvantula (formerly Joltik), N's timburr, N's Klinklang (formerly Klink), and N's Zoroark (formerly Zorua).
hot take: i don’t mind rivals like nemona, hau, or hop. them being easy and from a new generation doesn’t change the fact that they are a unique character. serena/ Calem suck
Brendan/May suck too, name one important thing they did in the story, or any personality difference between them? you can't (btw I'm a huge fan of May but from anime)
@@theamazingspooderman2697 There's a small difference in the remakes. Before the fight in Lilycove city, they talk about what they've been doing and get embarrased for different reasons. May is embarrased by the idea that she only went shopping for Pokemon dolls, while Brendan is embarrased by the idea that he went shopping for Pokemon dolls at all. Also in Emerald Brendan occasionally makes sexist comments towards the player, but the kind you'd expect from a ten year old. Comments like "I'm surprised you got this far since you're a girl".
As for Leon dynamaxing two Pokemon against Ash. He was not cheating. Eternatus arrived during Ash and Leon's battle and recharged both of their Dynamax band thus allowing BOTH of them to use Dynamax TWICE. Ash Dynamaxed Gengar and Pikachu in that battle. In fact, Ash had the advantage in that battle. In that battle, official rules states that they can only use one of either Dynamax, Z-moves or Mega Evolution. (Only one of any of the 3 for the entire 6v6 single battle) However, Leon requested to drop that restriction and allo Ash to use all 3 battle gimmicks so he could battle Ash with all his strength. Ash used two Dynamax (Gengar and Pikachu) Mega evolution (Lucario) and a Z-Move (Pikachu) Meanwhile Leon used two Gigantamax. Ash had the advantage in that battle. However all is fair because Leon himself asked for that rule to be dropped.
Man, there are so many interesting facts about Trevor, Alex wasn't able to pick one for this video. He's probably going to make an entire video dedicated to Trevor in the near future.😂😂😂
I loved how all of Richie’s Pokémon had nicknames. As a child I didn’t understand why Ash wouldn’t nickname his Pokémon cause i had certainly nicknamed all of mine in the game
10:40 Technically, he didn't as Ash ALSO gets a second Dynamax. In the anime, it was explained that Ash's battle with Alain was so intense that it caused the Galar particles in the area to intensify too much, so much so that Eternatus had to intervene to stabilize it, by doing do granting Ash and Leon ANOTHER chance to Dynamax their Pokemon. (even though they already Dynamaxed earlier in the battle with Ash Gigantamaxing Gengar and Leon Gigantamaxing Charizard)
Adding to Blue, he also has Blastoise in Pokémon Masters EX And having Charizard is not a reference to manga, but to an artwork which depicted Blue with the fire starter, Red with the grass starter, and an unknown girl with the water starter, she inspired Green for adventures manga, then inspired Leaf from FRLG and then Green for the Let's Go games And Blue also has Charizard in Masters EX referencing that fact
It would be fun if instead of having randomly all different badges, nemona had the same ones, but instead of a ghost badge she has a rock one, because she fought the former gym leader Tyme instead of Ryme
About Nemona, we never see her Champion Team, she always uses the Pokémon she caugth on her journey alongside us. At least in the main Story, I don't know about the epilogue.
If you're genuinely wondering why Trevor isn't included, take up your complaints with Bulbapedia's classification. They don't classify Trevor as a rival, and Alex seems to have referenced their list (minus the rivals that are also player characters, since player characters had their own video)
Thanks for pointing this out. Surprised not many people noticed this. Though it makes me wonder what even qualifies as a rival to Bulbapedia. You fight Shauna and Trevor twice each and Tierno three times. So why are Shauna and Tierno considered rivals but not Trevor? There’s still other characters I’d argue are rivals that are notably absent from the list such as Carmine, Green, and Arven.
My headcanon is that N while walking around unova, finds pokemon and is like, "wanna curbstomp a child with me?" And every time they say yes, which is why he has different teams every fight
That's very well possible, because his team usually consists of the Pokémon you can find in the area, so he probably just use them for the battle and let them free afterwards. HIs final Team are the ones that deicded to stay with him. Oh I just wrote my own headcanon down.
Kieran isn’t the first npc to use a master ball.. Sada/Turo use one on paradox pokemon in the time machine at the game’s climax, and their whole team is also in master balls. All the leaders from USUM’s Rainbow Rocket storyline also have all their pokemon caught in master balls. Also, just thought I’d point out that Dawn in dppt technically is the first to use a starter weak to yours, not Bianca in b/w.
Tbf Bede already had half a team of pokémon that gets fairy types after evolving and even after the change 3 of the 5 total he uses are fairy/psychic, which are because of Mr. Mine is an ice type in that region and the other option is an legendary are all the pokémon with that type. (screamtail didn't existed then)
Leon was able to gigantamax thrice because of Eternatus going into the stadium. Also I think it'd be fun to do facts on all the protagonists, you could even throw in some protagonists from other media like the anime and the various manga

In the anime he straight up calls it "Silvally."
* Hop uses a Gigantamax Corviknight in Champion tournaments, despite the fact that there is no way for him for the Rookidee he caught before the Wild Area to have the Gigantamax Factor without DLC.
Wow. These facts are way more fun than the ones in the video.
Thanks for sharing! I think I liked your list better than the video honestly!
Where do you get Alola's placement in the timeline?
Leon did not cheat the reason he was able to use. The gimmick twice is because of the legendary Pokémon shared its power with him and Ash.
Hop is one of the best rivals in the entire series. Bro grows along side you, has a character arc, gets a Legendary, and finally breaks free from his brothers shadow.
Hop is my GUY.
Pokemon fans don't care about that, they just want a rival who loses everytime yet says "I am better than you" the next time we battle
HELL YEAH LETS GO
@theamazingspooderman2697 Well they should because not all rivals have to be mean. They just want all rivals to be mean to us... smh
I refuse to believe that anyone who promotes Raid Shadow Legend actually plays it.
I figured N was using different Pokémon because he was releasing them after every battle. For one, because he’s Team Plasma, but also it speaks to his character to set his Pokémon free considering how close he is to them and how he can communicate with them.
Trip did appear in Journeys. He just had a silent cameo watching Iris' battle
Leon didn't cheat. Both him and Ash got an extra chance to use dynamax thanks to Eternatus. An interesting fact about Leon is that he has the biggest amount of sponsorships of any character in SwSh. He's even sponsored by Gamefreak itself.
And Klara/Averi have some other pretty interesting facts too:
Klara is an underground idol that even made her own merch and sadly only sold 8 copies of her first album Avery comes from a family known for always having the role of being the psychic type gym leaders of the region.
It's pretty cute and funny.
yeah if Leon cheated then Prof Kukui also cheated when Tapu Koko gave him the ability to use Z-moves again in a battle
thanks for talking about kieran that means a lot im so grateful
4:00 this is actually no longer true. Thanks to the indigo disk, both Nemona and Kieran have higher overall pokemon levels, with Nemona almost all of pokemon are level 86 but her paldea starter is level 87 and Kieran team having a Politoed and, Dragonite at leve, 85, Porygon, Grimmsnarl, and Incineroarat level 86, and Hydrapple being level 87
Heres a new fun fact for Barry. Barry has the rarest team among all the rivals with him. Have a Snorlax, which you can only get 3% of the time from specific honey trees and a Heracross, which also come from honey trees with a 5% chance of encountering it with only 5 trees that actually having it appear.
This means that Barry was patient enough to use the honey trees.
Actually, there is one case where Hop's Cramorant can be one level lower than otherwise, depending on your starter choice, during the battle at Stow-on-Side.
Literally this video happened to be uploaded while I was giving my puppy a bath, it caomed her down because she loves to watch Pokemon with me
Aww that's great!
Yep!! And if I remember correctly Giovanni has his entire team in Master Balls just to flex
@@matthewkuscienko4616 Well it didn't really fail. I mean he catched Terapagos. It just broke when it terastalaized and he attempted to call it back.
Fact about Nemona: she is best girl
thats enough internet for you
Nemona and Serperior fan? There should be more people like you
@@pigeonlord8128Are they wrong tho
@@sandy_nes31 Nemona is a child virtual or not it's still wrong
@@pigeonlord8128 You're the one who immediately assumed the worst, you could have just not taken it that direction.
Kieran isn't the first NPC to use a master ball. Earleir that same game, the AIs caught their whole team *during* the battle, and they're all in master balls. The first one to come out of the time machine is still wiggling when it drops into their hand.
That’s true, but I’m debating over whether they should be considered NPCs since they’re professors, despite being AIs.
@@JZJ7777 Everyone who isn't the player character is a NPC and that includes sapient robots engaging in identity fraud to save the region.
What do you mean? Barry didn't have the strongest Pokemon of any rival. Heck Nemona had a level 87
😂 I remember Trevor from the anime the guy with mega charizard y huh?
1:47 is when the sponsor ends.
You forgot to include a few rivals from the anime, like Iris, who technically was a rival to Ash since they’d often compete in the same competitions, Bianca, Stephan, and Bea.
Nah. Iris is a traveling companion. The only traveling companion of Ash's who's also a rival is Kiawe.
@@wikiuser92 Iris technically counts as a rival though, especially within the Club Battle tournaments.
@@BushidoRoad I'm not sure if that counts.
@@wikiuser92 It does, not to mention that she’s always competing with Ash.
He isn’t talking about anime rivals, and Iris is more of a traveling companion than a rival.
0:19 I laughed so hard, I spit all over my iPad.
Never noticed how richie and ash's color schemes were basically the colors of the og games
6:42 seem to be missing some rivals in X/Y...
at 2:25 you can hear the whistle when he says "generations"
Yes ok?
People: Alex has forgotten about Trevor again alongside Serena / Calem
Me: He forgot Sawyer too.
In theory Rainbow Rocket Leaders and Sada/Turo have some Pokémon in Master Balls
And the AIs catch them during the actual fight
also nemona and shauna is the only female rival without a male counterpart
hot take: i don’t mind rivals like nemona, hau, or hop. them being easy and from a new generation doesn’t change the fact that they are a unique character. serena/ Calem suck
Brendan/May suck too, name one important thing they did in the story, or any personality difference between them? you can't
(btw I'm a huge fan of May but from anime)
(Only one of any of the 3 for the entire 6v6 single battle)
However, Leon requested to drop that restriction and allo Ash to use all 3 battle gimmicks so he could battle Ash with all his strength.
Ash used two Dynamax (Gengar and Pikachu)
Mega evolution (Lucario)
and a Z-Move (Pikachu)
Meanwhile Leon used two Gigantamax.
Ash had the advantage in that battle. However all is fair because Leon himself asked for that rule to be dropped.
7:23
I would argue that you battle Ronald, from the Game Boy Trading Card Game just as much.
Man, there are so many interesting facts about Trevor, Alex wasn't able to pick one for this video. He's probably going to make an entire video dedicated to Trevor in the near future.😂😂😂
Knowing how much he likes to troll his audience, I wouldn't be surprised- 💀
My day gets better every time he uploads.
5:07 N uses a different Pokemon every time EXCEPT Vanilluxe and the Kink he evolves into a Klingklang.
4:36 nacrene city lol
The OVA Pokemon Origins did the best job in representing how Blue is. If you grew up during the First Gen you know this was personal.
I believe that Sada and Turo use masterballs for their boss fight because of the paradox mon
Yes finally, someone else pointing this out!
If Aura Guardian ever gets a merch drop, I'm definitely buying his stuff.
I feel like growing up, blues most famous was for sure the pidgeot. I think even pokemon masters has him with that ace.
2:49 Goated series
I loved how all of Richie’s Pokémon had nicknames. As a child I didn’t understand why Ash wouldn’t nickname his Pokémon cause i had certainly nicknamed all of mine in the game
Richie was indeed cool. I feel his I'm gonna steal the protagonist vibe was a bit unsettling, but I like it.
Adding to Blue, he also has Blastoise in Pokémon Masters EX
And having Charizard is not a reference to manga, but to an artwork which depicted Blue with the fire starter, Red with the grass starter, and an unknown girl with the water starter, she inspired Green for adventures manga, then inspired Leaf from FRLG and then Green for the Let's Go games
And Blue also has Charizard in Masters EX referencing that fact
Another fact about Bede. He’s the only rival from sword and shield that didn’t appear in Pokémon Journeys not counting DLC.
9:10 Pretty sure the entirety of the Pokémon of the Team Rainbow Rocket bosses are inside Master Balls in USUM.
Love these kind of fact videos. Not like some other clickbait youtubers that'll say: "Did you know Blue is actually not blue?!?"
Didnt really care much for Scarlett and Violet but Nemona was probably my favorite rival.
The final boss of Scar/Vi used a masterball first
N has a catch and release policy
It would be fun if instead of having randomly all different badges, nemona had the same ones, but instead of a ghost badge she has a rock one, because she fought the former gym leader Tyme instead of Ryme
9:49 actually, Trip was seen as a cameo in Iris vs. Cynthia.
Hey Alex forgot to talk about Trevor we should show him some love
I've got Iron Thorns
The fact about Barry is false as of The Indigo Disk, as Nemona and Kieran both have higher levels than Barry, reaching level 87.
About Nemona, we never see her Champion Team, she always uses the Pokémon she caugth on her journey alongside us. At least in the main Story, I don't know about the epilogue.
9:10 not sure if you’d count this, but all the team leaders in the USUM team RR post game ye master balls.
I miss rivals who were assholes. Rip Blue and Silver
"Let me tell you about this awesome game I've been playing" lol
Will you make a video about plotlines that were never followed in the anime or games please.
In the Manaphy movie it's shown that the Rocket officers from Legend of Thunder caught Rayquaza. This is never brought up again.
5:29 personal favourite ruval
Man just casually left out Trevor and Calem/Serena and thought we wouldn’t notice 😂
He didn't mention Brendan/May too so I guess he's not counting rivals that are just the gender you didn't pick
Nemona is super thirsty for the player character lol
I thought Cheren took over the normal type gym due to his talent and the former desired to retire it was shown in a certain flashback in BW2
Trip was in journey it show him watching the master 8 tournament in the episode when it was Iris vs Cynthia
He has *"COME"* back
Tbf Bede already had half a team of pokémon that gets fairy types after evolving and even after the change 3 of the 5 total he uses are fairy/psychic, which are because of Mr. Mine is an ice type in that region and the other option is an legendary are all the pokémon with that type. (screamtail didn't existed then)
Mr. Yours
@@something6833 Auto correct meant Mr. Mime😅😂
Leon was able to gigantamax thrice because of Eternatus going into the stadium.
Also I think it'd be fun to do facts on all the protagonists, you could even throw in some protagonists from other media like the anime and the various manga
