I like that (maybe) you've saved so much money on your DIY hammock/hobo stove & builders tarp that you can now afford a quality Cuban cigar along with your tea. Not something you see often on youtube videos - but to me this is a touch of class!
Nice video. I am preparing for section hike on th Appalachian Trail. Camping by hammock and was looking at making my tarp. I like the clear builders tarp with duct tape! Nice video!
Steve Chamberland Yeah, it's a easy and cheap solution for heaving a view on the stars at night, and also very easy to fix if needed. Good luck with your hike. Will you make some pic / video report from it ?
Hi Dabberty, many thanks for the great vid! Lots of good ideas for home-made kit. I also think a lot of people, including myself, would like to see a tutorial on how you made the duct-tape tarp - its looks like a great idea. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again
It's a painters drop cloth, probably 2M thick, taped at the edges with duct tape. You can shape the drop cloth to any shape you'd like for the over hang. Just tape the edges completely around & strengthen the corners & tie down edges with extra tape. Add a loop of tape on each corner, tie some para cord or twine to each loop & stake it to ground at each corner. You can even find different colored drop cloths to spice up your over hang. I found a translucent green one that goes perfect with the forest & is still clear enough to wake up with the sun.
I admire the setup, simple and really gets the job done. I'm curious about an idea of cost. I understand it is cheap but how cheap? I'm a poor college student looking for cheap and functional and your setup is perfect
+BEASTCLUTCHER HI, i'm sorry but I don't remember the costs anymore, this is over 2.5 years ago.. But roughly, the fabric for the hammock was something like 2 eur per meter, the plastic tarp was around 5 eur, plus a roll of ducttape, plus some cordage that i already had.. Good luck with yours !
this is one of the best videos i have seen for a long time. very relaxing, thank you.
Thank you !
Hi, it's the quite thick building plastic they use sometimes. Very cheap in every building / homestead shop.
