Thank you for your video about lint can build-up inside the dryer naturally overtime. I noticed lint build-up on the heat inlet grille and exhaust holes before I put clothes in my family's dryer on Saturday morning. I immediately stopped, and called a local appliance service center to diagnose and remove lint inside the dryer this week. I heard about a dryer fire a couple of months ago in Omaha, Nebraska from a local appliance service center. I did not want to risk a dryer fire. My father is surprised that a dryer needs to be cleaned once a year to prevent a dryer fire.
Samsung front loader I found the following when I cleaned it out. 11 bucks in cash, 5.45 in change, sharpie, 2 lighters, pen light, and a grease pencil. No wonder the lint trap didn’t fit. Of course the dryer is 12 years old. All good now.
I hope this is helpful! Most don't realize that this is important maintenance to do. If you have any questions feel free to ask and if you liked the video, consider clicking the thumbs up and subscribe!
This was extremely helpful. Just saved my husband and I hundreds of dollars. We thought our dryer was broken and after we did this we felt the difference immediately. 👍🏼
I was able to do the exact same job with a long 10 inch mini vacuum cleaner, and I did not have to take anything apart at all !!!!!!!!!!!! it worked and thanks !!!
I have seen many videos on this topic of dryer vent cleaning, but you just took it to a whole new level. Even though my dryer lint trap is on top that faces the rear of the dryer, I was able to lift the lid. Who knew? Anyway, I looked down on the inside and I saw about $3 worth of change. Funny what you can find when you open it up. When I get the chance, I am going to definitely pull it all apart and clean it out. And yes, I will retrieve the lonely money sitting there all by itself. LOL. Thank you for such an awesome video and explanation. You should be a teacher if you are not one already. Cheers
Well see, you can make your dryer safer and more efficient while also getting paid for it with money you didn't know you had! Win win! Really glad to hear you liked it. Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Our LG dryer started making noises. RUclips research suggested that it was the rollers, which are typically the first item to wear out. Which requires taking the dryer apart. I could not believe how much lint I discovers. At least 3 times what you got out in this video. Some of it looked burnt. We probably narrowly avoided a dryer lint fire.
I am 40 and just learned you need to do this.... This explains why my expensive drier sucks ass. And the lint trap warning that keeps turning on even with an empty lint trap.
Thank-you a million times over!! Perfect instructional video for my dryer problem. I live in rural Newfoundland and couldn't find a repair person to come fix my dryer, thanks to you I was able to fix it myself. FYI my problem was a sock that got down into the fan, a problem that occurred when the dryer was started without the lint trap inserted. Thanks.
Thank you for this video! A battery was somehow lodged in that motor, went to put clothes in and it made the worst grinding noise. My hubby is a GC, he can build/fix literally anything, but it's his bday so thank you for showing step by step how to do it & allowing me to NOT ask for his help at 10pm on his bday lol.
Ah very nice! We actually really like this dryer. It is efficient, fairly modern, but not crazy with all kinds of unnecessary button. Just gotta take care of it. Good luck!
@@MsPisces_ If it’s not getting hot at all this probably won’t help. Lent prevents proper air flow so the moist air can’t be exhausted and takes long times to dry…..but it doesn’t stop the dryer from heating.
Thank you so much for this clear video. We used it to take apart our dryer today and see why it was smoking. You saved us from a fire, or new dryer, or service call.
This is a great tutorial. My dryer is taking three to four cycles to dry clothes and up to this point I've only cleaned with a brush pushing straight down the vent. It's clear to me that I need to get to that pan and clean it out. I'll try your steps out this weekend. Thanks so much for posting !
I bought a house that came with a 3 year old washer and dryer. I noticed the dryer was taking forever to dry a load of clothes. I cleaned the lint screen and the well that holds the lint screen. It had a shop vac attachment in it, dirt, tons of dog or cat hair. Dust mites! I also have asthma. I have always been a stickler for cleaning because of my asthma and the potential hazards that can occur. Now I've got to get the washer checked. Another story later. Thank you so much for the video.
Oh wow, yeah these things are definitely important to keep cleaned. Sounds like you had a lot of stuff in yours. Thank you very much for the feedback! Glad to hear you are staying ahead on the maintenance.
Great Video!, Thank You, I live in an apt. I couldn't for the life of me figure why my apt was always so dusty, I keep things nice and tidy (topped off with a little OCD) so I knew something was wrong, The apt complex shined it off and said they had all the exhaust vents cleaned (which they in-fact did have done) and that it was probably coincidental, I finally took my vacuum canister that was FULL of lint every 2 weeks of vacuuming...that's all that was in it, and asked them where do they think this is coming from? So I whipped out this video and showed them...maintenance comes out next week.
Jeez, this is same issue that all dryers have had for decades. Dryer owners should not have to go to all this effort. For Pete's sake, we can put a man on the moon....!!?
Great video. We had a tech some out and fix something on our dryer and in the process he said our lint trap had never ever been cleaned. I argued with him because we clean out the lint trap every single time we use the machine (the mesh/screen thing). It took a while before we realized were were talking about different things. He unscrewed the bottom vent and OMG there was so much lint!! We had no idea we were supposed to routinely clean that as well.
I tell neighbors, friends, family and coworkers about dryer fires and prevention. A lot of people think cleaning the lint screen of a clothes dryer is enough. I helped my neighbor clean her clothes dryer and dryer vent duct recently. I was asked a question,”do you clean dryer vents all the time?” I said,”Yes, to prevent dryer fires.” She was thankful for me helping to prevent a dryer fire in her home. My next door neighbor was surprised I knew how to connect flexible rods with brushes to his cordless DeWalt drill for cleaning the lint dust from inside my dryer vent duct from my basement to patio recently. He admitted his clothes dryer is working better. Keeping my dryer and dryer vent clean has kept my utilities bills lowered by $28.00 to $30.00 each month.
I think the manufacturers design the dryers to fail before lint buildup really becomes a problem. My GE dryer was about 20 years old before I found that the top of the dryer became so hot that I couldn't keep my hand on it! (You're not supposed to keep appliances this long... they say.) I followed the basic procedure shown here, and that fixed the problem! A "Lint Lizard" is not enough!
Good video, I have a question- my exhaust duct goes up the wall, through the attic and out the roof. In the attic it makes a weird twisted turn and then at the roof it has a square exhaust hood. When I got one of those brush head drill attachments I cleaned out TONS of lint from the exhaust but wasn't able to get it out of the roof hood. I had to climb up onto my roof and reach underneath the hood (it's a permanent install and doesnt come off unless you remove shingles) to get the lint out, which was 100% blocked. My roof is steep and I didn't enjoy my near-death experience being up there. So my question is have you ever seen any type of filter that can catch lint before it heads up the exhaust? Something that would be a second trap after the built in lint trap. I haven't been able to find anything on the webs. Thanks
Hey Mark, my vent sounds fairly similar to yours. I do not know of a secondary trap for the lint. But the kit I used can be used from the inside as well. There is a hole next to where the shop vac hooks up that the rods can go up through. Could work to get yours cleaned out.
Very helpful video with through instructions without wasting time. I just cleaned my vent, now cleaning dryer by using this video. Do you have any suggestions for cleaning or servicing Washer too?
Awesome video! I have that same Samsung dryer so it's nice to know how easy it is to take apart so I can clean the lint buildup out. In the past I have been using 12 inch forcepts to reach into the lint trap to get wads of lint out.
Too bad that the appliance companies don't resolve this better than taking apart the machine. I think they need a trap door for this issue. They would sell more as a marketing incentive. Great instruction video. Thank you. Question- Why did not you clean out the outside vent?
I was having a wine and weed weekend at home doing laundry and I questioned where the "Lint Catchers" lint goes too after it caught all of my lint... thank you for making my weekend so much better. I got serval laughs for being 30 and not knowing that I should take it apart and actually clean it properly. thank you for making this video =-)
Thanks! This worked perfectly! It was annoying to be unable to fully fit the lint filter for quite some time and this was easy to follow. The hardest part for me was squeezing the electronic connectors back together at the end - not a lot of space - but was able to do it.
I am at this moment now. I came back to the vid to show it to my son. I notice that the cord we are working with in the vid is free from the plastic clips on the left. I'm gonna go free my cord to see if even an inch more slack will help.
Yup, it is a gas dryer. If it was an electric dryer then it would use the 220. Yeah the process honestly is not nearly as daunting as it may seem! Thank you very much for the feedback!
Thanks very much for sharing this video with us. I am in the middle of cleaning our dryer out. I did this a couple of years ago and got stumped. Now, I am ready to make a second attempt. Wish me luck.
This video was very helpful for cleaning out my Samsung dryer. I also cleaned off the metal cover for the heating element as it gets very hot. Thanks for the easy to follow information.
An inexpensive long-scope inspection camera is great for pinpointing the location & severity of lint build-up before dismantling anything, and has many other uses around the house/garage.
You are very welcome! Glad I was able to help. It definitely can build up inside. Those lint traps to catch most of it but not all. Thanks a lot for the feedback Marie!
@@HowToHomeDIY I understand. Btw, Thanks you for this video, I have the same Samsung dryer (220v). I deap clean it yesterday and it was really satisfying.
If it’s not easy to clean, you won’t clean it. There’s more chance of a dryer fire or clothes need 2-3 cycles to get dry. You replace the dryer or require a repair call. Either way, the appliance company makes money. It’s all about the profits.
Can I clean the inside of the dryer from the back where the tubing to the vent is connected? I am not able to take my 20 yr old GE dryer apart to work from the front where the lint screen is. I thought the dryer was running hotter than normal, had repairman come and check things, said it was OK. But he didn't check any of lint possibilities, which I now see he should have done. Not going to pay for another visit, so I hope I can get in thru the back with a brush kit. Will that work?
Idk this seems like a bit much...im afraid i wont be ablento put it back together. I apprecidte his diligence but Theres got to be a more user friendly way for the laynperson
To lazy to take mine apart. Remove the lint trap holder and blow it out with an air gun. I have a straight connection to my vent outside to ensure it was clear. Good video
I might try this on my apartment. I keep sticking things down in the lint trap hole and pulling out a ton and I was trying to figure out how to take it apart because I don’t want somebody else to burn my apartment down.
I have the same dryer and same problem. I bought a vacuum hose adapter to slip in there and suck all the lint out. I am def gonna take it apart though and give it a thorough cleaning. Also the lint trap will get weak over time and not snap closed at the bottom. so when you take it out you'll loose some lint to the bottom
I'm actually getting water and leaking down into my dryer I don't know where from I'm in a brand new home. The last dryer that I had here for a short while I was doing the same things I thought there was something wrong with the dryer. My friend said it's probably something to do with the lent and that I need to clean the the lint area in in the dryer itself the long thing that goes behind the wall of the dryer drum and also the vent from the dryer to the outside. Does this sound right?
Or you can buy a compressor air gun and put a rubber line or hose on so you can pull out lint screen and disconnect the vent hose or duct. And blast compressed air into dryer lint screen holder and move the hose in and out. No dis assembly ez pee zee
A few years ago, I had a thermostat replaced because of all the lint buildup. The repair man told me to do this kind of maintenance often and I do. It's interesting what the instruction manual doesn't tell you.
Used my compressor and blew everything out of the exhaust, no disassembly required. I also use an attachment for my drive that snakes the whole vent pipe leading outside. Quick and easy without the hassle of tearing your machine apart.
How many yrs back do you think that "lifting the hood" on dryers like that would work? We have a 2013 samsung model, i think. Do you know about when did they started making them to lift like that?
I have a Samsung drier. Every time I use the drier, I not only clean the vent, but I take a long-handled paint brush and brush everything down and toward the outer vent. Once a month I clean the exhaust vent outside. Boom, done. No need to take the entire thing apart.
I need a definite answer on how often you empty the lint filter. We have a real disagreement ....... on the lid of the dryer it says clean filter after every use....it used to say clean filter after every load. This is so picky (use/load) I check the lint filter before I start my laundry or after, just to make sure the filter is clean. NOW my interpretation of use and load, use is after your laundry job is complete, and this depends on my number of loads. Loads is empty filter after every load you wash. For what reason was the verbiage changed from Load to Use. Silly but this is dealing with two control freekes
Oh boy, not sure if I want to get in the middle of this one 😂. All I will say is I personally clean the lint filter before I start every load. Please don’t shoot the messenger 😂
It’s load! They don’t know how many loads you are doing at a time so if “use” meant “set of loads I am doing at once” that would be different for different people.
Great video, I just got done cleaning my lent screen area. Took about an hr. Crazy how much was built up in there. Definitely a design flaw for this dryer. They need to do better.
Lite version: Remove lint trap and use the vacuum attachment shown at 6:01 (Amazon or eBay $10) to clean out the bottom where the trap is usually seated. I spent 10 minutes picking up lint pieces. After that, the lint trap was flush as well. However, I will open the appliance to clean the vent as well. Thanks!
Adam thank you so much for making this video. Your video was very straightforward and I will 100% use it tomorrow morning to clean my dryer. I am subscribing you for more videos. Thank you again

You make the assumption that all dryers are assembled the same. The hose or exhaust duct is not an approved duct for dryers.
Just what I was looking for.
To the point. Very helpful. Thanks!
Or buy a lint lizard and clean it out from the top... No assembly required.
Take it outside, if possible and apply 'shop' air to it.
I put a leave blower on the back port and blew all that lint out the front. Made a mess of the hallway but we vacuumed it up.
Or you can buy a compressor air gun and put a rubber line or hose on so you can pull out lint screen and disconnect the vent hose or duct. And blast compressed air into dryer lint screen holder and move the hose in and out. No dis assembly ez pee zee
should you pull the motor and clean it out. how bad does the lint get back there. I need to pull ours apart today and see what is going on
So i did everything you said it all worked but then when i started drying close it would not get hot any ideas?
Any help on the suggested frequency for this thorough cleaning ?
A few years ago, I had a thermostat replaced because of all the lint buildup. The repair man told me to do this kind of maintenance often and I do.
It's interesting what the instruction manual doesn't tell you.
Do most of the models come apart the same way? I noticed that mine is a different model that you had.
Used my compressor and blew everything out of the exhaust, no disassembly required. I also use an attachment for my drive that snakes the whole vent pipe leading outside. Quick and easy without the hassle of tearing your machine apart.
Hola Carlos! Thanks for the tip. Did you put a bag or something over the outside vent to catch the messy lint?
Thanks, how often should we do this ? Just two of us now. Once a year ?!
so what about replacing that flexible hose with a solid pipe.
Som3 never clean it what next so why design a dryer for
"favorite bandaid" 😂😂
Was wondering where that thing went. 🤣
I watched your video on how to clean my vent....OMG 😨🤢😱
😂 They can get nasty!
Wow thank you for sharing. I didn't know how nasty the inside if my dryer was.
Really glad to hear you liked it. Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Just watching this makes me feel clean
Well now you can save water then haha. Thank you for the feedback!
Is it common for the dryer to smell hot after cleaning it, or did i break it? 😅
All I will say is mine definitely does not smell hot after I clean it lol
How many yrs back do you think that "lifting the hood" on dryers like that would work? We have a 2013 samsung model, i think. Do you know about when did they started making them to lift like that?
Ya know, I am not sure. Mine was purchased in 2015 so if it's similar it probably lifts the same.
I have a Samsung drier. Every time I use the drier, I not only clean the vent, but I take a long-handled paint brush and brush everything down and toward the outer vent. Once a month I clean the exhaust vent outside. Boom, done. No need to take the entire thing apart.
Not necessarily true but you are doing a lot!
How long did it take to accumulate that amount of lint?
How about the motor in the dryer does that need to be clean
Thank you! Just did this to mine. It wasnt terrible but it wasnt clean either.
You are very welcome! Good deal. At least now you know it is completely clean. The more time goes by the faster it accrues. Appreciate the feedback!
We are having issues with our new dryer, this will be a little evening project for sure!
Good luck with it! Hopefully it takes care of the issues you are having. Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you so much! It helped a lot!👍🙏
You are very welcome! Glad to hear you found value in it! Thanks a lot for the feedback Scott!
Thank you a lot !!!! Awesome video
Great video, I just got done cleaning my lent screen area. Took about an hr. Crazy how much was built up in there. Definitely a design flaw for this dryer. They need to do better.
Thank you so much. Fixed!
Thanks...Your video is sooooooooooo Awesome!!!
Did it myself....and I'm a "REAL" Girl!!!

This was an awesome video! My dryer has been making a very loud noise when it's running for almost a year now, and I've been thinking I needed to replace a part so I've been blowing it off😫 used this video to learn how to clean out all the lint and no more loud noise!👍
