    Trunk is coming along real nice, Phillip. Almost identical repairs that I had to do on my '36, several years ago. Kind of nice, and a ton easier, just sitting back and watching you do it !

      Well, I tell you what would be kind of nice and a ton easier for me, is if you were close by and could come help a brother out 😂😂 LOL. Anyway, it’s getting there for sure, and I hope this week to have even more good progress! Thanks for watching friend!

      Thanks for that Paul. I do wear many hats, and have a lot of responsibilities. I'll be back with more soon, unless something more important comes up more important, of course. Hopefully, something I'm doing will help someone else on their journey. Have a great day brother. Thanks for the kind words, God bless!

    I think you should split the inner from the outer. Get both fixed then paint inside then put back together.

    • @phillipshotrodgarage
      @phillipshotrodgarage  Год назад +1

      That was my original plan, but I'm afraid I'll get the trunk lid too far out of shape. If I had a solid car to fit the lid to, it would be different. But I'm trying to use the trunk lid to help set the quarters, and sort of work them together. So, I thought leaving it together would be more work, but could be beneficial from a squareness standpoint. Cleaning between the panels would be a good thing, so I still might come back later and pop the skin off and do that, But I don't know. I do collision repair for a living, and I've put on a lot of door skins, but taking a skin off without destroying it and putting the same skin back on isn't that easy. I usually grind through the edge of the panel to take it off, which destroys the skin. When I thought about separating this lid, I thought, well, if I'm going to pull the skin, I might as well replace the skin because it's pretty rough. Then again, the inner panel is even worse than the outer panel. So, the bare minimum effort to save this panel might be the better option and is what I decided to do. I may regret it later, I don't know. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it, and your approach is probably the smartest way, and I may be overthinking it LOL.

      @phillipshotrodgarage I understand where your coming from . Was just my opinion. I’m not there in person so I dont know how bad the rest of the panel is. I think you are doing a fine job on everything so no negativity from my end. Keep doing what your doing I’m sure whatever you choose will work just fine. One more option. Look into soaking the whole thing in that WD40 rust treatment. Not ever used it so not sure of the cost but seen a few videos on it and it looks like it’s a good option.

      @@lowdollarhotrods2030 I've see some videos on the wd40 rust remover, but it has been a while. I need to look at it again. I have used evaporust quite a bit. I wonder what product is available to soak panels in after cleaning to protect them? I'm thinkng maybe something that will creep between the layers. of course, spraying with primer wont get in there. I wonder if there is anything.

      Thanks 👍 I think this week, I should be able to get it down to the short roads. That area where the handle goes is what surprised me the most, and that took a huge load off when it came out nice.

    Nice work with the brass mess! I have struggled with same kind of "repairs", they sure can be a pain in the butt. I took the easiest way to do it and i just cut it off and patched it with new metal.

    • @phillipshotrodgarage
      @phillipshotrodgarage  Год назад

      I honestly didn't expect it to come out that nice, I originally though I'd have to cut it out. It was a nasty area the way they filled it in. I'm still amazed.
